Arizona (AZ DES) Unemployment Benefit Programs – End of Pandemic Unemployment Programs – What You Can Get in 2022 and Claiming Retroactive Payments

The Arizona (AZ) Department of Economic Security (DES) is the state agency that manages unemployment insurance programs and payouts, including the enhanced unemployment programs which have been recently extended again per the updates below.

Note: DES has mailed 1099-G tax forms to those who received unemployment benefits in 2021. You can use/upload these with all leading tax software providers.

End of Pandemic Unemployment Benefit programs & Retroactive Payments

The PEUC, PUA and MEUC programs expired on the week ending September 4, 2021. From September 5th, all federally funded enhanced unemployment benefits, including the previously (early) terminated $300 weekly payment have now ceased.

Retroactive payments are being made in select cases but you would need to contact the agency to manually get this verified and processed. You must contact the UI Call Center (toll free) at 1-877-600-2722.

While there was a lot of discussion around extending pandemic unemployment benefits by states using already allocated stimulus funding, this was not done. The AZ DES instead is only supporting return to work and child care recovery programs.

With the expiry of the pandemic unemployment programs only traditional state unemployment benefits will be available in 2022, up to a maximum of 26 weeks, with a maximum weekly payment up to $240. Starting in July 2022, the rate will be $320 per week.

Te amount you get depends on your earned income and dependents over the base period – which is the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters before the effective date of your initial claim.

Note that to qualify for unemployment, your job or income loss will generally need to be involuntary. I.e. job loss through no fault of your own. You also need to certify and demonstrate ongoing work search requirements (see section below) to keep getting payments.

Arizona to end $300 weekly unemployment benefit (FPUC) early

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey announced the DES will join several other states and end payment of the supplementary $300 weekly benefit for unemployed workers after week ending July 10th, 2021. This is being done to encourage people to return to work. Arizona will continue participation in the PUA and PEUC programs until the planned end date of Sep 4th, 2021.

“In Arizona, we’re going to use federal money to encourage people to work…instead of paying people not to work.”

Gov. Ducey

In lieu of ending the $300 FPUC payment early a one-time bonus of $2,000 will be paid to eligible individuals who return to the workforce and get a full-time job, while those who return part-time will receive $1,000. These will be payable until September 6th, 2021.

Biden Stimulus Bill – Unemployment Benefit Extensions to September 2021

Under President Biden’s $1.9 trillion federal coronavirus relief package, known as the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), enhanced unemployment benefits have been extended until September 6th (week ending Sep 4th in Arizona). This includes further extensions to the PUA program, PEUC program. The $300 weekly payment under the FPUC program and $100 Mixed Earners (MEUC) program will end early on July 10th, 2021 per the above update.

There were also provisions in the Biden Stimulus package for Unemployment tax breaks on the first $10,200 of benefits received in 2020.

Latest News and Status on PUA, PEUC and $300 FPUC Payment Schedule

The Federal Department of Labor (DOL) has now issued formal guidelines to implement the latest round of unemployment extensions, which have been put in place by the DES. Certifications for the first week of the extension can be filed and will be payable beginning March 21, 2021. Claimants should be aware of the following general guidelines around the extended coverage period funded under the ARPA stimulus bill.

  • You do not need to reapply for benefits if under PUA or PEUC. DES will automatically enroll you in the appropriate extension once systems/programs are updated. However, any claimant who has had a break in filing for more than two weeks must file a reopen before filing additional weekly certifications or receiving additional benefits.
  • PEUC claimants who have exhausted should not apply for extended benefits (EB) at this time, as PEUC has also been extended.
  • You should continue to file your weekly claim for benefits as you normally would as long as you remain unemployed.
  • You will not need to contact DES in order for these program extensions to take effect.
  • This legislation would extend the various benefit programs through the week ending September 4, 2021. This is approximately 25 weeks of extra coverage (the ARP bill had legislated 29 weeks in total).
  • The additional weekly payment of $300 under the FPUC program will be extended through September 4, 2021 as well.
  • Per the federal law, DES is not permitted to issue retroactive payments for any ARPA extension weeks prior to the benefit week ending March 20, 2021.

I will post updates as more information is provided and you can stay connected via the options below.

2021 Unemployment Program Extensions Under COVID Relief Bill

The $900 billion COVID-19 relief package was passed into law on Dec. 27, 2020, which among several other pandemic relief measures extends and provides additional federal funding for enhanced unemployment benefits. This includes the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) and a reinstatement, but halving of the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) Program which provides a $300 supplemental weekly unemployment payment.

These programs have been funded and extended for 11 weeks (on top of any state funded extensions), covering the weeks of December 27th, 2020 to March 14th, 2021. While the bill was only signed on 12/27 and there have been some reports that the claimants may lose one week of benefits (since funding for all these programs ended on December 26th) the Department of Labor has confirmed an added $300 per week FPUC will be available starting the week ending 1/2/21, so eligible claimants will receive the full 11 weeks of payments (a total of $3,300). To receive FPUC benefits, you must be receiving regular UI, PEUC, EB, or PUA.

Final guidelines on these programs and final eligibility including additional document verification procedures to combat Fraud have been issued by the Department of Labor and then have to be implemented by the state UI agency in their systems and programs. So this could delay the actual date of payments.

[AZ DEZ Update on Payment] The first week allowable by law for the additional $300 in Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation will be payable for weekly certifications filed on or after January 3 for the benefit week ending January 2, 2021. DES continues to work urgently to provide this additional benefit to claimants as quickly as possible.

UI claimants with existing or expired claim balances should be aware of the following:

  • PUA and PEUC, FPUC will be automatically added to the claimants’ benefits if they are eligible for the weeks outlined in the new legislation.
  • Claimants with weeks remaining in UI should continue to file weekly claims
  • Claimants who will have additional weeks in UI and PUA or PEUC due to state provisions (where applicable) should watch their state agency UI portal or website for updates that will allow additional weeks to be filed.
  • Claimants will receive retroactive payments for all weeks they are eligible.
  • Claimants currently receiving benefits through the Extended Benefits program must finish all weeks of EB before receiving additional weeks of PEUC.

I will post additional details as they are released in coming days. So stay tuned for updates.

Lost Wages Assistance (LWA) Program – Now Expired/Paid Out

Arizona was one of the first states to have rolled and paid out the Lost Wages Assistance (LWA) program and started making the $300 extra weekly payments at the end August. Governor Dorsey announced that Arizonans who are unemployed or partially unemployed due to COVID-19 and are currently receiving at least $100 in unemployment benefits (including programs below) will be eligible to receive up to $540 a week, including $300 a week in LWA funds funded by FEMA.

The LWA payment is subject to both federal and state income taxes. DES will make the LWA payments in the same manner as any payment from current UI programs payable for the week involved; claimants do not need to file a separate application for this payment.

Initial payments were added to the Weekly Benefit Amount starting August 17, and DES began issuing retroactive payments for the benefits weeks ending August 1 and August 8 later that week. All retroactive payments will be completed the week ending August 28. See more details on the DES LWA page.

Fraud issues delaying payments – As part of its increased fraud detection efforts, DES closed accounts with suspicious account information and activity located out of state.. However a small portion of individuals eligible for benefits who may be impacted by these measures and may see a pause or delay in getting their benefits. These individuals should contact DES directly at [email protected]. Once a case is validated as not being fraudulent, benefits will resume and/or a new debit card will be issued to the claimant and the funds will be reloaded.

CARES Act Unemployment Compensation Enhancements

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, also known as the CARES Act, signed into law on March 27, 2020 expands Reemployment Assistance benefits. Benefits will be paid from the date they became eligible under the CARES Act. Programs included in the CARES Act are:

  • Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) – provides an additional $600 per week to any eligible individual until 7/31/2020 (an extension is under review). The $600 would be paid the first week of your unemployment claim period  but no earlier than 4/5/20.
  • Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) – provides up to 39 weeks of benefits per week to those not ordinarily eligible for Reemployment Assistance. This includes individuals who are self-employed or contract employees. The additional $600 FPUC per week will be automatically added to all regular UI and PUA benefits. PUA claimants who were not able to certify for eligible weeks prior to April 19 are now able to file for eligible weeks back to their last date of employment (but no earlier than February 2). Individuals must file weekly PUA certifications for each week for which they are claiming eligibility for benefits, including retroactive certifications back to their last date of employment.
  • Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) – allows for an additional 13 weeks of benefits added to the end of regular unemployment insurance benefits. This means claimants may collect unemployment benefits for a longer period of time than under normal circumstances. Claimants will need to apply for PEUC benefits once the balance of their current claim is exhausted. Those who have already exhausted their benefits or have a UI claim that expired after July 6, 2019, will also be able to apply. Your PEUC weekly benefit amount is the same as your regular UI weekly benefit amount (between $187 and $240). Your weekly benefit amount is based on your reported earnings during the base period (the first four of the last five completed quarters).

You are eligible for PEUC if:

  • You are unemployed for weeks within the time frame of March 29 through December 26, 2020;
  • You exhausted your regular state or federal benefits after July 6, 2019;
  • You are not currently eligible for state or federal unemployment benefits; and
  • You are able and available to work.
  • Note – You are not eligible for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) if you are eligible for PEUC.

Claims for PEUC can be filed for the weeks ending 6/6 and 6/13. Retroactive claims can be filed by calling 877-600-2722 or by completing a Weekly Claim form for each week.

Filing a Claim

  • PEUC is now available. Learn more by visiting the PEUC page.
  • The PUA portal is live and can be accessed at pua.azdes.gov.

Login using the same credentials you used to file your regular UI claim, then proceed to the initial UI claim section to file your claim. If you are unable to file online, call the UI Call Center toll free at 1-877-600-2722 or TDD: 7-1-1. The Department will notify you when you are able to file your retroactive and ongoing weekly claims for PEUC benefits.

To maintain Unemployment Insurance benefits, you are required to file weekly claims confirming that you continue to meet the requirements to receive Unemployment Insurance.

Issues with your unemployment claim

If you have issues with your UI claim, your benefit amount will show as $0.00 until the claim is processed. DES staff are working trying to process outstanding issues on claims, and you will be notified when a decision is made on your claim. Please note: You will be contacted if additional information is needed. After submitting this information, your claim will be under review while our adjudicators continue to process your claim and will notify you when a decision is made. Submitting duplicate documents may result in further delay to processing claims.

You must file a claim every week you are unemployed, or underemployed. The benefit week starts on a Sunday and ends on Saturday. The Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims Report will be replaced by a new Unemployment Data Dashboard, which enhances and supplements the data previously reported. It will be updated every Tuesday.

  1. I applied 7 weeks ago was approved and received my card, I have zero issues and have been filling my weekly claims… I haven’t received a dime at all and my pay type just changed from “taxes withheld to “partial check “ I’ve called the Ombudsman’s office, The UI line and everyone in between and can’t speak to anyone and now I’m losing my apartment… Does anyone have this problem and who knows what “Partial Check” means… I am Literally about to be homeless with 2 kids and pregnant with twins I’m freaking out… and no I can’t work I’m on bed rest and had to close my 2 businesses…

    • I am having the same issue I have no issues I first had direct deposit but since it was in my wife’s name it returned it so I applied for the debt card I got a week later activated no money.. was told to sit tight and wait it out this is going on week 5 with my new debit card no issues I have a trans number “Partial payment means you have tax’s taken out full payment if you are not asking for %10 to come out of each check” mine says partial I too changed my taxes same time I applied for debit card. My original claim is from back in April they owe me $14,000 and I’m scared to change anything or call in fear it will mess something up. All Des has told me is to wait and be patient. My savings is gone and don’t know how to tell my children there is no food tonight for dinner.

  3. Can someone please help so my husband myself and my son all have an active issue as if last week. Weird how we got it at the same time.. my husband been getting this since it started. I can’t reach anyone. Not to mention my son was positive for covid a week ago.

    • Are all of you doing your weekly claims from the same computer or same phone? If so, it raises a red flag. Start Doing them from separate computers or phones and it should clear it up right away. It did with mine and my son’s.

      • I just am so frustrated. It has been very interesting to here all of the responses from the customer service reps that answer the phone for unemployment. In one week I had the following responses: 1. Governor Ducey is holding everyone’s money so he can pay for other things. 2. You will be paid all your back pay in 7 to 10 days. 3. You are approved, it just has to go to a second adjudicator so they can cut you a check. 4. I have no idea when you will get paid. 5. I will send a message right now to the Adjudicator and you will have your money next week. So this was everyday for a week. Seriously? I guess this is frustrating because I can’t give any of my bills an answer as to when I can pay them. It’s not fair to put us all on an emotional roller coaster. I have a family of five, my husband is disabled from a horrible motorcycle and he just had a stroke a few days ago. I have sent emails to commissioners and no help, all they say is Des is behind, they have no idea when people will get paid. Why is it that head people cannot help us. Can anyone who has received there back pay tell me how long it finally took until you got your pay? I haven’t received weekly for 2 1/2 months. Does anyone have any ideas what we can do? Please we just need answers? I am sorry everyone is struggling.

you should stop and file from different computers or different phones. I’ve read several times that this has caused accounts to be flagged for fraudulent behavior. Hope this helps
      Good luck

    • My husband and I both have an active issue and have had it for 2 weeks now and our payment shows “In Progress”. I called today and was told to take a picture of myself holding my driver’s license and social security card next to my face, like one on each side. He said to upload it and send it in. I had read that other people were told to do the same but wanted confirmation before doing so. He also said to upload my driver’s license picture front and back and send that in as well. You might want to try this and see if it helps.

  4. 8 weeks and still nothing. 0 active issues and pay dates. What does partial check mean? Some say partial check some say taxes withheld? What does that mean?

    • OK, I’ve been reading thru a lot of these questions and comments and I had been having the same issues as most of you.. I’ve been dealing with 2 accts with 2 separate issues and have talked to several adjudicators and I know how y’all feel so let me see if I can help a little.. OK, everyone’s acct that had a backpack amount of over $4,000 has to not only be verified by the system, but due to fraud has to verified by an actual individual.. Due to the high number of these and the low number of people that are allowed to do this is why many of your accts have been saying “in progress” for several weeks now.. This also goes for you people that received a payment and transaction number and benefit pay date, but yet on Sunday night it keeps getting changed to the next Monday.. That’s what’s happening.. Now if your acct has gone from having the benefit pay date pushed back to “in progress”, that means that your acct is under the review process now.. Everyone’s acct as far as how long is a lil different, but on average it takes roughly 2-3wks for this process to happen… Now, if you go under your documents page under your acct and upload a picture of you holding up your identification next to your face, and if your able to take a pic of your social security card also even better, but doing that will not only expedite your review by a week or more, but will also eliminate any reason for them to need to contact you.. You will know that your acct has been verified when your amounts that say $0.00 right now on your weeklys under your claim summary change to $117, $600, and then $300 for these past cpl weeks.. When that happens it means your acct is at the stage where it would be right after you do your weekly certification when you didn’t have issues.. So for instance if you got your deposits posted on Tuesday after you did your weekly on Sunday, then u can expect it to post 2days from then.. If it would normally post on Wed then 3 days.. Mine would post on Monday night so mine for example is posting tomorrow.. The other acct I’m dealing with for my friend, his will be done with the verification process next Wed.. I found out that they update there system every week on Tuesday so don’t quote keep, but have a feeling that most, if not all acts going thru this, it will process the upcoming Wed from when they finish.. So if they finish verifying your acct on Sunday, then it’s gonna process that upcoming Wed and think except for certain/special circumstances that’s what’s gonna happen for most people.. I know how all of you feel.. Mine had not only been in progress since mid June, but they also lost weekly payment the week b4 it went to in progress!! So after several hundred phone call attempts, 4 adjudicators, 6 emails, and a threat to sue DES in small claims court, that is the beat information I feel comfy giving everyone.. Not trying to write out what I might think or feel or I could put out a lot more.. I hope this info is able to help someone/anyone that has had to go thru this.. If so, LMK plz so I can feel that all the time and effort I put into this over the last 2 months was at least worthwhile lol..

They said my claim will end on December30th,2020. I’m still confused with the length of time it’s taking. They never repoed the $5000 back, that was with the option to have taxes taken out,so really, what’s taking so long? Every week I file and still no info on my account,no updates. I am a little less anxious knowing you knew to take the time and care enough to inform the uninformed. Good looking out….

      • Hi Alex, I see you have given some serious insight to all the chaos with the unemployment. My question is (if you may know) what if the benefit amount never showed 0.00? and there was never any issues reported? I filed and received 4 weeks then the last 4 weeks show “in progress” as do the back pay weeks. and the pay either says partial check or total payment. Its very odd. I’ve got a hold of rep and she said I have no issues on my account and there was an issue with the “vendor” making payments but they were working on getting it resolved with in the next 4 business days. Well those came and went and I still received nothing .

        • I put my girlfriend account different names the bank sent it back. Called representative that day, they switched it to debit card. The representative told us funds would be on card, received card $0 on the card. We called several times, talked to representative. Filed a missing check on October 22nd and still nothing. The government have failed us all.

    • If you worked at all during that last “week” before you applied you will see 0 or partial check and you will not get the extra for that week. $600. You should only see this in the first or second week. Unless you are working part time? My first week says partial because I made some money the week before I filed. You should only see Partial if you made some money right before you filed. Im still unpaid for 15 weeks.

      Reply
      • I didn’t work and it says partial check. I can’t get any answers from unemployment. Every claim if you have a large amount of back pay has to be reviewed, so who knows how long this is going to take. I still don’t get my weekly, and I haven’t for five weeks now. How do they just stop your payments? This is crazy! No one has any answers, why not? Everyone is suffering, and no solid answers. I think we could deal with things better if we just had answers. The state officials have no answers, the people at unemployment who answer phones have no answers.. it’s just not fair to everyone. It makes me so sad to see everyone who are losing there homes, and can’t buy food. Please, we need answers?

  5. I just filed for PUA last week, Aug13. Filled out my first claim form today. It did not give me the option to continue filing for past weeks. It did when I helped my friend file in May! So, now what? How do I file for past weeks? How do I get the back pay? Why am I not getting claim forms for previous weeks?

    • Same…I called them and they said that as long as you put your last day worked on your initial application, that they are verifying to see that you are eligible to get back pay…not all will qualify for it..it just depends…but that if you do..you will receive a letter and then they mail you a check…that’s what the rep told me…that you don’t need to fill out the claims…or you can call them and speak with someone in charge of open claims.

    • After the original Cares Act was stopped 07/31 st, you can no longer claim for back weeks. Those who waiting for the new 400.00 will automatically get back pay starting 08/01. You will get a separate payment a few days after it starts 400.00 up again, in your state. I hear some states refused to even ask for the fema help.

  7. I am in the same boat. Govenor Ducey and DES needs to pull their head out.
Guess its ok for people to starve and become homeless. I have worked 40 plus years and have never received unemployment.
I received 1 initial check middle of May. 2 deposits on my card June 8th and June 12th. Then it came to a crashing halt, has said in progress every week since.
Now will be filing a new week after tomorrow Aug. 16th $600 PUA ended July 25th in AZ I understand. So I still have almost half the weeks of PUA still owed. If this doesn’t get fixed very soon, I will be going to my Az congressman and reaching out to President Trump. Ducey needs to be doing with the Cares Act money what he was supposed to do. Ducey needs his paycheck held till everyone waiting on DES gets their pay.

  9. August 13, still not a penny received. Have emailed and called several times to no avail. I wonder if the money that was suppose to go to help us in hardships has gone to government big wigs bank accounts and their cover up is that their is “fraud” going on, preventing payments to we the people. Pretty sad to think that something that should be relatively simple is in actuality impossible for our states. Can you imagine if we didn’t pay the government though, we’d have our checks seized, our properties, our livelihood. What in the hell is going on Arizona!? This is pathetic, what are we suppose to do!?!? This is the second time in my life trying to get unemployment but have worked for the last 18 years… 18 years of paying taxes and social security. PATHETIC!!! The rich are being given money they don’t need, we can’t get money to survive! So now what!!!?? Something needs to change!!!

  13. Hi, so I filed for pua end of June. I had an unresolved issue which turned out to be that I hadn’t filed for regular UI. So I did it over the phone roughly a week and a half ago. Keep in mind even though I had an unresolved issue, I still received a debit card. I received online a monetary denial stating denied because I quit my job over 14 years ago to raise my children. Then in the mail I got a notice saying denied for not having income in the required time frame. In the meantime the number that I call to check status doesn’t recognize my social security number. Through all of this , on July 26, it states payment made, partial check, and all claims I have filed since then state the same. There is no transaction number and I haven’t received a penny. So here I sit…..waiting….and waiting.

    • Is it required to file for regular unemployment as well? I only applies for the pua and received 3 payments and then they stopped this week. All my back payments now have “in process” as well as this weeks payment.

        • No I still don’t have an answer. I did however go ahead and applied for regular unemployment yesterday was was deemed monetarily ineligible. So now I guess I will continue waiting for something to happen.

      • Yes! Apply for the regular UI and get denied. This will default to the PUA after that. I am basing this off of my personal experience btw. It took several calls for someone to finally tell me I needed to be denied on the UI before PUA kicks in.

        • So did you recieve your money after all? If so did your payment date change from “in progress”?

        • Mine changed from “in progress” last night to today’s date 8/19. I have not received a deposit as of this afternoon.

        • Ok thank you i will try to apply for reg ui and see if my date and luck changes. Hope you recieve your payment if it says 8/19 it is usually paid out the following day 8/20 if you do recieve it please let us know. thanks.

        • My claim says in Process, and has said that for several weeks. Now it says Partial payment. Does anyone know what that means please? It has to do with all my backpay. I can’t get through to anyone at unemployment. If anyone knows about that, and how long it takes to get paid once it says Partial payment?

Thank you everyone and good luck with this!!!

  14. Ok so I need someone who is kind enough to please tell me how to go and file all my weeks I was laid off in Macrh and was having system issues. The first week I filed on the PUA website, it did not give me an option to file back pay. The second week on PUA website, after logging in, push the “File Weekly Benefit Report”. At the end of filing that report there is a blue CONTINUE button. Push that. Then it asks “Do you wish to continue to file?” Push yes. Then Continue to file each week after that. Just keep pushing the blue “Continue” button.
I was receiving my payment through auto deposit but this week ending August 8, 2020, I did not receive a payment at all. Everything now reads “In Progress”. Hope this helps.

  15. So my buddy’s mom was having the same problem I had a feeling that the reason it was doing this was every time we filed the weekly claim for that week it kept pushing the payment back so I didn’t file for this Sunday the 9th and the payment went through so if you guys want to maybe give that a try

        • Has anyone received there back pay and on your account it says in Progress? Just curious if this is a good sign?
It has changed every day for a month, then every week, and now it says In Progress. Hope that’s good news!

        • Yes Allison mine is doing the same saying in progress now hoping it is good news.i havent received yet.

        • Mine is doing the same thing! Over a month my pay date has changed and then now it says “in progress”. I’m so confused! Will we get our backpay ? I received a few weeks of payments the last couple weeks and this week says in progress along with my older backpay dates. Grrr

        • Not sure ellis im in the same boat as you bud. This is very frustrating, now i didnt even get my payment for this week which i usually get today. All payments besides the few i got paid for a couple weeks say “in progress”. Really hoping this is a good sign if any one has any info let me know please. Thanks.

        • That is exactly what is going on with mine. All my back payments that have had a date that changed every Monday now have “in progress” I also did not receive my payment for this week. It also says in progress. I am really nervous about this!

        • My claim says the same thing. I spoke to unemployment today twice, I asked about why my claim says now in Progress. The response was that Governor Ducey is keeping all of the back pay so he can pay everyone the new PUA of $400.00,that we will get our backpay sometime, but he has no idea. Really? That was a very made up response. So I called back and the next guy told me that my account is in review, that I needed to sent a picture of me holding my drivers license to the portal so that who ever is looking at it, they can see its really me. So, for all of you that it says In Progress, make sure you take a picture of yourself holding your drivers license and then take a picture of the front and back of your license, this apparently will speed up our wait. I hope that is true, and we will all get our backpay soon. I also did not get my weekly payment this week, it also says pending. If any of you do get your backpay, please let me know, wondering how long this is really going to take. Holding positive thoughts that it will go quickly from this point.

        • Thank you so much for the info! I will upload the pics right now. Let’s hope it helps speed things along.

  16. Wow it really blows my mind to think that Arizona thinks it’s okay to leave people homeless and with no money I filed and got my retroactive payments going all the way back to February 2nd my husband however has not been able to receive one retroactive payment we use the money that we got to catch up on bills thinking that he was going to be able to get his money now we have nothing to live off of we are homeless have nothing and Des could really care less it’s not fair that all of the Americans who work hard everyday and pay taxes have to suffer while others sit on their thumbs and decide what to do and when to give us money Congress has failed us Arizona has failed us what a shame and I thought at one point in time America was such a wonderful country to live in??? now I don’t feel the same it makes me feel so ashamed to be a part of a country whose willing to let their people fall time and time again weeks have passed with no resolution we should not suffer our families and friends children should not suffer but again we suffer because our government has failed us it’s not fair that some get the retroactive payments and some don’t had I’d known that my husband was not going to get his I would have spent the money that I had gotten so much more carefully I would have waited to pay off certain things before I paid off others to make sure that I was able to feed and house my family!!!

Why is this happening. For the past 4 weeks I have received my payment. But this back payments are from Feb. thru July. And like most of you is around 12000.00
    What is the problem.
On my account it states that they had payment processed . Even have transaction number and payment number. So why haven’t I received the money?????? It’s not like you don’t have my account number because you have sent 4 payments to same account..
Not one person will answer the phone or any emails. I have sent 3 a week for 4 weeks now.
Someone from des needs to get in touch with me asap. I am going to the news as of Wednesday the 5th of August and show my paperwork and emails to see what they say.

  27. Complete horsesh*t.

DES website screwed up and wouldn’t let me file a claim. It took me calling for 5 weeks to get through to a human who told me they couldn’t help me and to call back and press another number. It took me four more weeks to get through and that person told me that I had to talk to the first agent’s group.

In the end, I managed to get someone on the phone after calling for over 12 weeks. Now I finally get benefits now that the program is over. Yea.

DES has not paid my backlog and all the information on my dashboard is wrong, doesn’t add up and doesn’t match the certifications I have filed.

There are no issues with my account and never gave been.

So far, DES has changed my payout date four times. Started out that they were to pay me on 7/19, then 7/21, then after not paying on 7/21, they changed the payout date retroactively on 7/22 to 7/27. Then on 7/27 after not paying, they changed it to 8/3.

The program ends on 7/31. How can DES pay me AFTER the program ends?
DES now owed me over $12,000, but at least I got two payments.

My girlfriend however hasn’t received ANY. DES owes her like $14,000.

I seriously doubt that DES is going to be able to pay three hundred thousand people on 8/3, so that’s a big joke, too.

My girlfriend and I are now homeless because the government can’t get it’s sh*t straight. Together, they owe us over $25,000.

That money was supposed to prevent us having to live through the Hell we are dealing with for the last several months. It was also supposed to stimulate our local economy to keep local businesses open.

I would guess that many have died due to the heat because of DES’s failure to do their job.

I would also guess that many more people are out of work and that many small businesses have closed forever due to the state’s inability to do its job.

There is a culture of no accountability at DES. It’s pervasive. Workers will not provide their last name, last initial, operator or other serial number and will not refer you to a supervisor.

The entire DES system has failed. It needs to be shut down and everyone who works there needs to be fired, especially the director — and all of them made to be homeless like we have been so that they can understand the effects of their actions.

Arizona has the most lacking state government ever. What a lame state.

    • Maybe you should move to another country and see just how insignificant you really are. I understand its very frustrating and anxiety will become anger and that can lead to many negative realities. Best thing anyone can do is at least remain positive and patient. The Cares ACT which created the PUA and its respective portal were all done hastily in an attempt to help in this current crisis and it HAS done that in many ways and for hundreds of thousands Arizonans. However, MASSIVE fraud from within our state and from afar have crippled most of the system. The only resolve left is careful claim review and that means every new claim and many existing or continuing claims are scrutinized to verify legitimacy. This is a process one would expect and since qualifying for a PUA claim is easier than ANY GOVERNMENT PROGRAM IN HUMAN HISTORY and takes 15 minutes to file while sitting on your couch so you can receive benefits all the way back to February 2nd of this year in excess of $13,000………….there may be a delay to deal with. It is by far more money than it should be and the easiest most of us will ever realize. The taxes paid by anyone that actually works have nothing to do with UI payments or premiums. The premiums are now and always been paid for by every legitimate employer with NO COST TO YOU THE TAXPAYER. It is not a tax at all and is an insurance policy premium paid by employers much the same as Workers Compensation is structured SO, STOP BEATING THE ENTITLEMENT DRUM AND STOP HITTING THE PIPE! Most will get every cent as long as they continue to do weekly certifications and remain patient. COMPLAINING GETS NOTHING DONE. While I am on this rant I find it necessary to clear up some other misinformation being bred out of all this. First, many of you have concluded in error the PUA ended with the last of the $600 Stimulous and this is incorrect. Did you read the manual? It ends the last week of DECEMBER 2020 and pays the regular weekly unemployment benefit millions have been satisfied with before these stimulating times and much more than the claimants that have NO REPORTED INCOME OR EVEN A JOB TO justify even receiving the minimum weekly benefit plus Stimulous. GET A GRIP! Its a gift and most have forgot this. These are troubling times but no match for what others before us endured and did so during wars and famine along with some pretty crazy policies made by past leaders that ravaged what little assets citizens had. Entire families were decimated by war or illness that makes our current situation appear rather small in comparison and nobody received a dime from ole Uncle Sam. NOR DID THEY EXPECT IT as Their patriotism grew bigger and was larger than life itself. These were different times. Proud times. Happy times. A time when you were thankful for any kind act of one human helping another or a great nation helping its great people. Stop complaining. Volunteer your time and energy to a worthy cause that directly helps people and be positive. Negative comment after negative comment and directed at our government and the fellow citizens that are there to help is treasonous at best. I CLOSE where I BEGAN and to those that talk shit about my country……….Don’t let the door hit you in your sorry arse!

      • Bruce, first the $600 payments ended on July 31st. The mezly state payment, mine is $117, will continue until December. I was living with my parents, they are in their 70’s, but when the pandemic broke out I decided to be safe and live out of my suv until everything settled down. Well this has lasted much longer than expected. I work for a major online app delivery service using my suv. As luck would have it my engine started giving out so I applied for PUA and was approved. This money was going to keep me going while I fixed my suv. I recieved one payment second week of June nothing since then. But you tell me I’m not supposed to complain while I sit in a parking lot 115 sweating my balls off????

        Reply
        • If approved as you claim you can expect every last cent. Remain patient and try to find a cooler place to wait it out. The $117 minimum is now substantially more with the added $400 Stimulous that resulted from an executive order signed by President Trump and begins this week with an additional payment for back weeks to 08/01.

      • Well said Mr. Sumner! So many have taken advantage of and now venting their anger at their government and it’s employees since they haven’t received their expected windfall from a program they have never paid into. Those who have received assistance should know many with legitimate claims (and have never applied for any such assistance and hoped to never have to) still haven’t received a dime and remain patient. Hopefully when the DES cleans everything up those who dishonestly cashed-in at our expense will be identified and penalized and/or prosecuted accordingly. They are the ones you should be venting your frustration and anger towards.

  28. So I am owed like 8 grand. On the payments page it states that I was paid all those weeks back pay the same date I claimed it which was 7/13. Has transaction number and everything. Then on the weekly claims summary the date keeps changing. I finally got ahold of someone to reset my pin. I was never given one with pua. They had me file a regular UI claim and then was able to establish a pin from there (Just a trick for anyone without a pin and unable to talk to anyone on the phone at the call center)
So now I was able to establish a pin and will be trying to call existing claims tomorrow.
But does anyone know a way to fix this without calling? I have no issues or outstanding problems with my claim.
I just submitted my I’d and social card just to try that. .. I did however find a ub99 form online that said I needed to fill out, is that just for regular UI or should I do that and see if it helps?? I’m about to become homeless after saving up for a year to move into this place just a few months ago so any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

  29. Ok AZDES, if you are having so many issues then why do your reps tell people on the phone that you can’t pay is it’s up to the federal government? My backpay dates have been changing since last month every day now weekly! I have called the congressman and he said that it’s not true what your reps are telling people! Either they say “I don’t know” or they say “it’s the federal government“ this is absolutely ridiculous! So many of us have been approved been given Pay dates and transaction numbers But every single day it’s like Groundhog Day we wake up in the pay date has changed. but every single day it’s like Groundhog Day we wake up in the pay date has changed. The call center representatives hang up on people they are rude, and extremely arrogant. I guess that is if you even get through because they are typically full or you wait on hold for hours. Not even a manager wants to help!! This is ridiculous and it needs to be taken care of immediately, I’m sure if we could work and have the daycare available for our children we would be right back at work the way that things should be! Instead we sit on hold with unemployment in between filling out job applications that are all dead ends, just to be ridiculed And lied to when someone does answer the phone!!

After 3.5 weeks of trying someone finally answered the phone. I had also sent emails and letters with no answer except by a bot. Now it turns out some one has used my SS # and applied for PUA, fraud was reported but they said they won’t inform me on any progress they might make. So how the hell do I get anywhere? Is there no way for me to get the money I need to get by? There ia absolutely no support for the victims of fraud? Is there no where I can call to report this besides to DES fraud because they are not helping me?

  41. I have called the call center multiple times, spoke with multiple agents and its a different story each time. Its been 2 months and nothing has been resolved nor have my emails been read that was sent through the pua portal. And as of now i have gotten 2 active issues, 1 was because i filed on wifi out of the country which was 1 time and i have cleared up with multiple agents and now the 2nd issue is because i have started working less then 30 hours. Its very frustrating when you cant get a straight answer besides the fact that if we need more information we will call you or send something in the mail, which none of the above has been done.

  43. My moms PÚA claim says they issued her money on the card on 06/22/2020 and we checked the balance and it says zero. And now for her last 2 claims is says processing and 1 active issue. And when we call unemployment it states she requires a pin and kicks her out of the system. And no one has been able to help her it’s ridiculous and very frustrating and sad.

  44. CORRECTION
“and was only allowed to claim from February 08” instead of January like the rest of this country and the CARES ACT says.

  45. Arizona’s minimum UI payment is $117.00 NOT $187.00
They immediately made 39 weeks PUA benefits available on my claim, They are not retroactive to end of January like the rest of the country but they say only to February 02, and THEN won’t let you file claim until February 08! (12 weeks only, not 13). My benefit year expires December 31, 2020 and somewhere along the way they deleted that info from the previous info that showed my benefit year income. So it is now BLANK as in zero income. It was not a lot, only 2 quarters, but I don’t understand why Arizona does’nt have to pay that week they eliminated, as I filed my initial claim over the phone on 28th of May after 0 luck trying to file online for 6 weeks and was only allowed to claim from February 08 instead of February 02.
Does anyone know if they will actually pay the 13th week 600.00 payment or not?
    Thank you.

  46. The Arizona Department of Economic Security is dealing with a major problem with unemployment benefits. Several people who were supposed to get payments reported they have not received them.

DES is investigating the issue and working to fix it.

“Unemployment Insurance claimants have reported not receiving payments that were scheduled for today. Additionally, Pandemic Unemployment Assistance claimants report seeing a benefit amount of $0.00 in the portal for this week. Our teams are actively investigating these issues, and are working diligently to resolve them. We have no additional details at this time,” according to a DES spokesperson.

    • “several people”???

More like several hundred or several thousand or several tens of thousands!?

I have not been paid my back pay and the payment date has been changed five times now including once retroactively

I am now homeless because DES hasn’t been able to do its job for 12 weeks. So is my GF. She has received zero dollars. I wasn’t able to file a claim for 12 weeks then finally got two payments … Now that we are homeless

      Thanks DES.

Yes, you have major problems. Major problems. The first of which is a lack of accountability. A culture of failure and being ok with that are close runners up

Just make sure you actually get all they payouts paid by 8/3 this time or you are likely to have a riot in your hands this time. It’s time to get it figured out

Now. Thousands of people have had their lives devastated due to DES incompetence.

Local businesses that were supposed to have been supported have gone under because of your failure to do your job, leaving more people unemployed and more people out in the street

Seriously, to be homeless today is a death sentence. Perhaps DES is counting on this to lighten their load.

If not paid by the 3rd as promised, again, it’s time for people to act.

If this system can’t be fixed, everyone at DES should not be issued paychecks until it’s fixed.

    • I pay my taxes.Even pay thousands of dollars for self employment tax every year. But my account has been frozen almost 3months! while I watch thousands of people that never worked in their lives getting huge payments after only a few days! I’ve called hundreds of times and not 1 gov’t employee or official like the governer or senator can do a damned thing to resolve this!!?? I’ve explained i’m literally sleeping in the woods with my 3kids and my car stolen and truck broke now. Using free wifi for school work. I’m beyond livid now. Beyond disgusted. I just wanna take my kids to my moms and walk into traffic!
