How Can I Get My Missing Dependent Child Credit or Past Stimulus Payments? IRS CTC portal and Latest Status For 2021-2022 Tax Refunds

Despite three rounds of dependent stimulus checks and the advance monthly child tax credit (CTC) paid in 2021, many tax payers are still waiting to be paid and are relying on their 2021 tax filing to get missing payments for their eligible dependents.

While retroactive payments were made or “caught-up” for stimulus checks, missing eligible payments for the CTC were made by adjusting the overall payment for subsequent months. However many eligible recipients still didn’t get their advance child tax credit payment.

You could have used the IRS’ CTC portal to claim missing payments, but the best bet to claim it now is probably via your 2021 tax filing, which you can now file for free via leading providers like TurboTax or eFile. You will also need to file a tax return to claim the remaining six months of dependent payments.

You can see this detailed CTC article or Youtube video for more FAQs around the advance child tax credit and missed payments.

Also just be mindful of overpayments that you will have to reconcile on your 2021 tax return. If your income changed (e.g. went up) or your dependent status’ changed due to a divorce or them filing a 2021 return (and hence no longer a claimable dependent) you may have to repay any payments you are no longer eligible for.

Third Dependent Stimulus Payment

A third round of dependent stimulus “check” payments has now been paid under the enacted $1.9 Trillion Biden COVID Relief Package (American Rescue Plan Act, ARPA). The latest amount in this round of payments is $1400 for each dependent, the same as the adult stimulus payment.

You can see all the eligibility rules for payment in this article. The biggest takeaway with the 3rd stimulus check payment is that while the maximum income eligibility thresholds were lowered to get the stimulus bill approved, a much broader set of dependents (e.g. college age kids, disabled adults and elderly parents) are now eligible to receive an economic impact payment via the IRS.

Unfortunately the expanded payment amount and eligibility rules mean that payment issues are persisting again, similar to the earlier IRS payment challenges discussed below, and in the comments forum following this article.

When Will I Get Paid and Expect Payment Issues

Most Americans have now been paid their latest dependent stimulus, including any catch-up payments, based on the latest IRS stimulus payment schedule. These federal payments were based on the later of your 2019 or 2020 tax filing, including the specified payment method (direct deposit, check, debit card). For non-filers (see below) they will use payment data from other federal agencies or information from earlier processed stimulus check payments. Due to the fact that payments went out in the middle of tax season it has been very hard to get a hold of someone in the IRS to help with payment or eligibility issues.

And per prior payment rounds these will be done in several batches which means adults could see their stimulus payments come through before their dependent checks hit bank accounts. Mailed stimulus checks an debit cards will take several weeks to be sent. The IRS GMP tool is the best place to get the latest status of EIP/stimulus payments. Also note, adult dependents won’t be paid separately. All payments go to the adult who claimed the dependent.

Plus Up Stimulus Payments to Capture Updated Dependent Information (from 2020 returns)

The IRS is aware that several people have updated income and dependent information in their most recent (2020) tax filing. As a result the IRS is now processing additional or plus-up extra stimulus payments for tax filers who had earlier received payments based on their 2019 tax return information but are now eligible for a new or larger payment based on their recently processed 2020 tax returns. These “plus-up” payments per the IRS could include a situation where a person’s income dropped in 2020 compared to 2019, or a person had a new child or dependent on their 2020 tax return, and other situations.

Third Stimulus Payments for Adults Now Being Issued by the IRS, but Dependent Payments Late (again!)

Like the first and second dependent stimulus checks there already appear to be ongoing issues with the IRS issuing the third dependent stimulus payments at the same time as the adult payments. You can see a discussion of earlier issues (and solutions) in this video and in the updates below. See the the email I got from Jim recently regarding his payment situation. Sounds like many of the emails I received during earlier stimulus payment rounds and the many comments below this article.

Hi Andy,

I really love your work and your YouTube channel (I’m a subscriber) and today I received my $1400 stimulus (yay) however I did NOT receive any $ for my 2 dependent minor children ($2800).  Do you know if payments are sent all at the same time or are they staggered? Where can I go to find out if you don’t know?  Thank you SO MUCH!

Cheers,

Jim

Answer: Thanks Jim. Stimulus Payments are sent in batches and the IRS Get My Payment tool is where you get the latest status. Dependents could lag several weeks in getting their stimulus (in the claiming adult’s account) given broader eligibility verification and related IRS updates to their systems.

Stimulus Payments for Non-Filers and Dependent and Payment Information Updates

For Non-filers who haven’t filed a recent tax return, the IRS has worked with relevant agencies (e.g. SSA for Social Security recipients) to get the latest payment and dependent data. There is also talk of a new non-filer tool the IRS would roll out to allow payment and dependent detail updates for this payment. This would also allow updates to flow through for the other expanded Child Tax Credit (CTC) and Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) stimulus payments in the ARP package. Or else the IRS will use payment and dependent details based on previous stimulus payments.

California $500 Dependent Check

CA Governor Newsom recently announced an expansion to the recent Golden State Stimulus, provides $1100 in additional direct payments to Californian middle-class families that make up to $75,000. It will provide an additional $600 direct payments to adults and a $500 dependent payment for qualified families. If the bill is approved, it would be paid out later this year.

Delayed Payments for Those Who Filed 2020 Tax Returns

Based on comments I am seeing on this article it does appear that those who recently filed a 2020 tax return are seeing delays with this round of payments, despite getting the first and second on schedule. Here are a couple of comments illustrating this.

I received my dependent payments separately for the first 2 payments. This time [3rd stimulus] I got everything at once. I am a nonflier so I did the form last year for that. It seems like they do it differently each time. It also looks like everyone who filed 2020 taxes is not getting their stimulus as fast this time. My daughter always got hers right away and she has not seen hers yet this time, she filed her 2020 taxes and is eligible. However myself and my partner both got ours this time and neither of us filed [our 2020 return] yet.

I claimed the recovery on my 2020 taxes and received my tax returns a week ago. I still haven’t received either portion of the third stimulus either. When I use the payment tool it says “not enough information or not eligible”. Does it give you the same message? I’m not understanding what is going on either and it’s very frustrating. I hope this semi-helps and hopefully we will be seeing our payments soon!

There are two likely reasons for this. One is that your 2020 income was too high to qualify, The other reason could be due to the behind the scenes data processing at the IRS where they need to ensure recent 2020 tax data is matched/aligned to their stimulus payment programs and systems. It should eventually work out, but you could get your payment a bit later than usual in a later tranche.

I will keep posting updates on this third round of payments. Please follow me via the options below and keep reviewing comments to see how others are dealing with payment and eligibility issues.

Second $600 Dependent Stimulus Check Payment Review

The $900 billion COVID relief bill (CAA) included another (second) round of stimulus payments for adults and ALL qualifying dependent children under the age of 17 at the end of 2020. While the adult stimulus check amount was only $600, half of the original $1200 stimulus payment, in order to keep the overall stimulus package price tag reasonable for Republican Senators to approve, the new dependent stimulus payment will be $100 more at $600 per qualified dependent. You can see full details of this payment and updated income thresholds in this article, which also looks at the proposed $1,400 third dependent stimulus check. Please also see the FAQs below and hundreds of comments at the end of this article for others who are waiting for or got their missed payments. I also covered payment challenges in this video.

[Update Feb 16th, 2021] The IRS has confirmed it has issued all first and second Economic Impact (Stimulus Check) Payments it is legally permitted to issue, based on information on file for eligible payees and their dependents. The GMP tool was last updated on Jan. 29, 2021, to reflect the final payments and will not update again for first or second Economic Impact Payments.

If you haven’t yet received your payment and GMP is not showing payment details then the IRS is recommending you claim this (and past missing payments if eligible) via a recovery rebate credit in your 2020 tax return that you will file this year. Major tax software providers like Turbo Tax and Tax Act have updated their software to allow tax payers to claim their missing first or second stimulus payment as a recovery rebate with their 2020 tax filing.

If you are unable to claim the missing dependent stimulus payments via your tax return then you can potentially wait for the new stimulus claimant tool per Biden’s executive order to the IRS/Treasury.

[Updated Feb 5th, 2021] The IRS is still sending dependent stimulus payments but it’s ONLY to the taxpayers whose payment got deposited into a wrong account or waiting to get it by check or debit card. The IRS will not be issuing new or additional payments to anyone who hasn’t yet received their expected dependent stimulus payment and has no payment status showing in the GMP tool. They are prepping up their system for tax filing season and have no time to issue missing dependent payments unfortunately. See the FAQs below on how to claim your missing or incorrect dependent stimulus via a recovery rebate credit (RRC) or a potentially NEW tool that Biden ordered the IRS to implement to help deal with missing stimulus payments. This is shown below and also discussed in this video.

Biden Executive order for Treasury to provide online tool for claiming missing stimulus payments

[Update Jan 25th] There may be some hope for those who yet to receive their stimulus payment (and have not or cannot claim it via their tax return) following President Biden’s recent executive order instructing the treasury department reopen the non-filers tool or create a new online tool for people to claim their missing or partially paid stimulus checks. This would mean that getting missing checks via tax return won’t be the only option. While details are still to be released by the Treasury Department (under which the IRS falls), who would be responsible for implementing this executive order, it would likely include both adult and dependent stimulus payments.

Also I have posted two recent videos on this topic – one is a detailed review of the $600 Dependent Stimulus and the subsequent one is a Q&A for Issues People are Seeing with this Payment (please like and subscribe if you find these videos useful).

Issues with my Second Dependent Stimulus Check (Recovery Rebate) Payments

Like the first round of dependent payments (see updates below), many readers are reporting similar issues with the IRS payments for the second child dependent stimulus payment, despite already having received their adult stimulus checks. At this point it is best to wait for the IRS to finish processing (January 15, 2021), especially if you had issues with the first round of payments. They will be using your 2019 tax return or Non-Filer data (for those who don’t file a tax return) as of November 21st, 2020 to determine how and who gets paid.

If you haven’t yet received your stimulus payment you will need to check state on the IRS website (Get My Payment GMP Tool), call their call center (later in January 2021 is better) or just file for this when you submit your 2020 tax return in 2021. Major tax software providers like Turbo Tax and Tax Act are updating their software to allow tax payers to claim their missing first or second stimulus payment as a recovery rebate with their 2020 tax filing.

Its Mid-January and I Still haven’t got my payment. Help!

Based on the comments below and on the videos above a lot of people are still reporting they have yet to receive their dependent stimulus payment, despite having received their adult stimulus check. The IRS is still processing payments, including those by direct deposit, check and debit card, so you need to keep checking the status for your payment online as it could change (only updated nightly). The IRS has also noted issues with payments related to tax filing with some large tax filing providers and mistakes on their end that required them to redirect payments (e.g. incorrect bank account) as checks and debit cards. However if you have not received your stimulus payment by the end of January or get a status in GMP tool saying it will be paid ten the only recourse you will likely have is to claim it via filing a 2020 tax return (see free options here at TurboTax).

Can I update dependent information in the non-filers tool?

The non-filers tools is closed for updates now. So if you haven’t got paid or the GMP tool is not showing payment by check or debit card by now, you won’t be get automatically paid and really only have two options left – either claim it via a recovery rebate credit in your tax return or hope that the IRS reopens the non-filer tool at some point (or works with agency to figure out missed payments). I think the later option will mean several months delays if the first stimulus was any indication. Even if you don’t file (and didn’t expect to this year) you may need to do so to get your payment sooner. You can also use this approach to update your dependent information and bank account details. Also note if you don’t file and someone else (e.g. an ex spouse) does file a 2020 tax return legitimately claiming your dependent they will get the stimulus payment and you may permanently miss out. So file unless you have a strong reason not too or are okay with potentially waiting months or missing out on the stimulus payment. With a third Biden stimulus payment likely in March or April 2021, this makes not filing a less appealing option.

No Deposit in Your Bank Account? Then you may be getting a Debit Card in the Mail

Per the latest IRS processing schedule update, they have nearly completed paying the second stimulus check payments that were sent out by direct deposit. This includes dependent payments. They are now processing stimulus payments that were known to have errors and as a result millions of taxpayers will receive their second Economic Impact Payments (stimulus checks) by debit card instead. These prepaid debit cards are faster and more secure than checks, and can easily converted to cash.

Note that the form of payment for the second stimulus check may be different than the first one (even if you got it late via check). Some people who received a paper check last time might receive a prepaid debit card this time, and some people who received a prepaid debit card last time may receive a paper check. People can check the status of both their first and second payments by using the IRS’ Get My Payment tool, which will show the mailing date for these debit cards. If you have not received your stimulus payment in the mail (debit card or check) by the end of January and the GMP tool has does not show the payment then the only recourse you will likely have is to claim it via filing a 2020 tax return.

How do I claim the missing stimulus check payment for my dependents if I don’t file a return and don’t plan to in 2020 (e.g. social security recipient)?

Getting a lot of comments from people who don’t file taxes and wondering how they can claim the missing stimulus check for their dependents (or themselves). Basically even if you don’t file taxes you still had to file a Non filers form on the IRS website. It’s too late as of now to file that from and get the second payment out to you as that deadline has passed (was Nov 20th, 2020) and the non-filers tool is closed. The IRS is now recommending that even non-filers must file Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR to claim the missing stimulus payments (officially known as a Recovery Rebate Credit). Anyone with income of $72,000 or less can file this form for free through most large tax providers like Turbo Tax or Tax Act, or electronically for free through the IRS Free File Program

My Child was 16 in 2019? But if I claim him in my 2020 return he won’t qualify for the Dependent stimulus

Note that when you file your 2020 tax return, the age criteria for the dependent stimulus check still applies. Some people are finding that they would have been eligible for first and/or second dependent stimulus because it allowed 2018 OR 2019 tax information. to be used for the dependents age (have to be younger than 17). However if they claim the missing dependent stimulus as a recovery rebate credit via their tax return they will have to use the 2020 age for this and many kids who turned 17 in 2020 would no longer be eligible to get this payment.

2018 vs 2019 return data causing payment issues

Several people are reporting (in comments below and video above) that they are seeing payment issues with the second round of payments. One significant item I am seeing cause these issues is that the IRS used 2018 returns in several instances for the first dependent stimulus payment, while this time they are only using people’s 2019 return (or non-filers data from first stimulus payment). So if your data is different between the two years then your dependent check will have payment issues.

Other items to check for: Ensure no one else has claimed your dependent. If you have an ex-spouse or another guardian who are claimed them in their 2019 return (or via non-filer tool) then you will have issues getting the second round of dependent stimulus (recovery rebate) payments. Note that the IRS will not be deducting

Missing Payment Status means no automatic stimulus

According to the IRS, if the GMP reflects a direct deposit date and partial account information, then your payment has been sent via direct deposit. If you see a mailing date, that’s when a check or debit card was sent and could take 3 to 4 weeks to get to you. However if you get the status of “Payment Status #2 – Not Available” on the Get My Payment (GMP) stimulus tracker tool, it means you won’t be getting the second stimulus check automatically sent to you. Instead you would have to claim in your 2020 tax return filing and claim it is a recovery rebate credit. There is no second round of automatic payments for this status

Also the IRS is making payments in several batches, so you may get your adult stimulus check first and your dependent one a few days or weeks later if processed in subsequent payment batches. This is likely the case if you had issues with your first payment and faced delays when getting.

[Update on First Stimulus payment for Dependents] As you can see from the many recent comments on this article, it looks like the GAO (Government Accountability Office) and IRS have resolved glitches on the non-filer portal for those who do not file a tax return. This means the $500 dependent stimulus, approved under the CARES act, which was missing for many eligible recipients is now being processed. Those who missed getting their payments with their original $1200/$2400 stimulus check have reported that starting July the IRS has been mailing and depositing their overdue payments. So they no longer need to wait till 2021 to file their return or wait for another fix to get the much needed $500 payment.

Per the IRS, “The IRS corrected the programming error on May 17, 2020. The IRS will automatically issue additional $500 EIP per qualifying child to affected individuals in early August.  Direct deposit payments are scheduled for August 5, 2020, and paper checks or debit cards are scheduled to be mailed August 7, 2020.”

Further, another $500 dependent stimulus payment has all but been confirmed under the latest stimulus package being developed in Congress. You can see further details in this article. The good news is that eligibility for this payment will be expanded for those under 24 (vs under 17 in first payment). You should expect to see this payment paid along with the second stimulus check for eligible recipients.

Spouse’s past-due child support. The IRS is also actively working to resolve cases where a portion or all of an individual’s payment was taken and applied to their spouse’s past-due child support. People in this situation do not need to take any action. The IRS will automatically issue the portion of the stimulus check that was applied to the other spouse’s debt.

[Previous Update] With over 100 million stimulus payments made, one of the most concerning questions I am seeing is around individuals or families receiving the standard adult stimulus check (a.k.a economic impact payment) of $1200 or $2400 but not receiving the $500 payment for each of their qualified child dependents. Here is what I found when looking into this further.

The first thing to check is that you do indeed meet all the required income and qualify child criteria (e.g under 17) for the $500 per dependent child stimulus payment. Remember for most Americans this is based on your 2018 or 2019 (whichever was the latest) tax return filed and approved by the IRS. Not your current situation or changes since you filed your last return.

The criteria to receive this kids stimulus credit is even higher thank the Child Tax Credit (CTC), so if you didn’t qualify for the CTC in past years you won’t qualify for this payment either.

Social Security retirement, disability benefits (SSDI) and Railroad Retirement benefit recipients and for those that earn too little to file a tax return need to have registered via the IRS’ Non Filers payment update tool to receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. This is because the IRS does not have the the qualifying dependent information for these groups.

So I did all of the above and met all criteria but still didn’t get the $500 kid payment? Some possible answers.

For many recipients, who have met all the criteria for the child stimulus, the reason they haven’t yet got a stimulus check is due to the fact the IRS systems processing these payments are truly not working due to technical or data glitches around how the IRS systems manages dependent information. Eg if your child’s information has gaps or missing information or you didn’t provide a valid SSN in your latest tax return then no payment will be made.

Those using the IRS non-filers tool to enter dependent information have also been disproportionately impacted by the missing $500 payments. This is likely another technical glitch with the fillable form as discussed subsequent to the IRS update below.

The other likely explanation you didn’t get the payment is because someone else claimed the dependent on their tax return or in a later filing than yours. This is a big issue for families that are divided, filing separately or where the dependent is not a direct child of the claimant. So you need to make sure that you were the sole claimant or someone else may have received the $500 payment. Finally your payment can be intercepted for overdue child support payments. So you may have gotten the payment but it went to your spouse or someone else who claimed the child.

Another common error being reported is that those who did not owe or did not get a refund on their latest return are stuck in limbo within IRS payment systems because the IRS does not have their banking details. The IRS is aware of these types of issues and trying to correct them in ongoing system update. They have advised they are doing multiple batches of stimulus check payments and those whose payment were held by due to IRS errors may start seeing them in coming weeks (mailed out via paper checks)

One reader left a comment that stated the following, “We got the payment for myself and my wife and it was deposited into an account that was only set up a few months ago so we know they used the information from our 2019 return (plus we weren’t required to file in 2018). But while that return has all the info for both our 5 year old and our 1 year old we did not receive the $500 for either of them. The deposit we received was $2400 instead of $3400. This is especially frustrating because we actually weren’t required to file in 2019 either, but we used the TurboTax thing that came out a couple of weeks before payments started and was marketed as the fastest way for non-filers to get their info to the IRS (which was actually by filing a very limited return). So we went out of our way to use this tool which was supposedly put out in partnership between Intuit and the IRS to get them our info and they still screwed it up? ‍

The above comment confirms another potential cause for the missing $500 payment attributed to filing a simple return via Tax software providers (like Turbo Tax, HR Block) which has caused issues when it comes to the IRS processing dependent payments for these filings. The evidence is anecdotal but the above comment does confirm what many lower income Americans are seeing. Hopefully the IRS fixes this (or provides a number to call) or they’ll have to wait till filing their 2020 return to claim the $500 payment.

Can I call the IRS? At this point there is little recourse for most people trying to resolve this by speaking to someone at the IRS. The agency however just announced they are adding live representatives to take calls on the stimulus check payments (see details here). Most people will still however have to wait for their Economic Impact Payment letter as a way to confirm payment and follow-up on missing or incorrect payments.

IRS Update on $500 payment – Unfortunately the IRS has confirmed that those who did not receive the full amount of their expected stimulus payment, including the supplementary $500 child dependent payment, will need to claim the additional amount when they file their 2020 tax return. This is a tough break for many families who needed/expected the $500 payment as soon as possible and were hoping to get a supplementary or corrective payment in the mail sometime in the near future. You’ll now need to wait till 2021 when you file your tax return to fix this and get paid the child stimulus if you are eligible.

VA and SSI recipients may have a little more time to have the $500 added automatically to their standard stimulus check payment by using the Non-Filers tool (via IRS website). However they must file by May 5th to qualify or like most American’s they will have to wait until 2021 to get the additional $500 when filing a 2020 tax return.

Note, a number of comments below indicate that even using the non-filers tools is causing issues with receiving this payment. There seems to be a problem with the online form where there is no box to check to claim your kids as dependents , even though you put in all their information (the printed form seems to have this). I am sure the IRS is looking into this, but looks like yet another technical/coding glitch with the non-filers tool that is just using online fill-able forms.

Direct Express Account Holders: You may use the Non-Filers tool, but you cannot receive your and your children’s payment on your Direct Express account. You may only select a bank account for direct deposit or leave bank information blank and receive the money by mail.

Both parents received the $500 payment. So a few unmarried or separated parents with an eligible child commented that they both got the $500 child stimulus payment as they filed separately. The good news, or loophole is that there is no provision in the law requiring repayment of the payment. So you get to keep it if you get it. The IRS will send Notice 1444, Your Economic Impact Payment, to each parent and they should keep the notice for their 2020 tax records.

I didnt receive the 3rd stimulus for my daughter because her mother claimed her on her taxes when its court ordered she is not to claim them for the “even” years, and I even had her fill out the 8332 form revoking her claim on her for these years, since she claimed her anyways just so she could get the stimulus, my taxes were rejected online so I had to mail them in with the 8332 form so they didnt get this information on time, even tried letting them know on the phone 5 days prior to stimulus payments going out and they said “we dont even know how or when the stimulus will be paid yet” I’m so frustrated, now shes in contempt of court for filing for her, and she already recieved the money, both stimulus and tax return. Not sure what happens now.

  8. I have a very odd situation. I have a shared custody with my son. I get to claim my son on odd tax years and my ex-wife claims him on her even tax year returns. During the 1st stimulus round, the IRS used my 2018 taxes. This was because my 2019 return had not processed yet. At the same time the IRS used my ex-wife’s 2019 tax return. So nether one of us received a stimulus payment for our son because he wasn’t on anyone’s recent tax return at the time. Bad timing, I guess.

I filed my taxes with my tax professional. He tried to list it in the recovery rebate section, but it wouldn’t let him.

Any thoughts on what we can do?

Not sure what to do either!! I hope i can get some answers!!

      • You can claim these payments in your taxes (via a recovery rebate credit) and ensure one of you have the right information.

      • I posted further down what I found out. I called irs and got the rudest employee, so I contacted my state senator via help request form on his website. IRS called me. Officially, we are to claim it unpaid on our 2021 taxes filed in 2022. .. unofficially, they will be checking returns against payments as they process. Also, they may come up with a tool to get it before next year. Watch their website.

      • I know the IRS is slow this year processing returns but as soon as they process his return and see the dependents on his return they should send stimulus payments for the kids after his return is issued. Hopefully you won’t have to wait to claim it on 2021/2022 taxes that would defeat the purpose of emergency funds.

  11. Received third stimulus but wasn’t given the $2800 for my dependents.

The first round of stimulus was the only time we were paid for our dependents.

Does anybody know how to correct thisvprovlem this tound? Let me know. Thanks

    • You’ll have to see if you get paid in a subsequent round by the IRS (they are making several rounds of payments, per the schedule referenced in article). At worst case, claim this in your 2021 return.

    • Same here. I only received a 3rd stimulus for my husband and myself this time when we are supposed to also receive one for our two dependants. I received the full amount the first time also. My taxes have also been delayed filed Feb 12th and still have not even a date to expect my return. Not sure what is going on.

      • I didn’t get any of the first 2 had to put it on 2020 taxes and still waiting on refund(which I know will now take forever to get). Now this third I got mine and the husbands but not our children. The government cannot get anything right and I don’t think I should have to wait until next year. A friend of mine got an extra 1400.

        • Your friend received an ect tea 1400? It’s ridiculous I have t even received mine or my child’s this third time around. I already had to claim the second stimulus on my taxes because I didn’t get my daughters. I agree you shouldn’t have to wait to file next year to retrieve it. This is suppose to be emergency funds.

  12. I’ve only received my stimulus for myself. All three. My daughter was born March 2020.
I claimed the recovery rebate tax, and they went off my 2020 taxes even tho I haven’t received my state or fed. I know they did because it went to my new direct deposit. But still didn’t give me my money for her as a dependent???? Like wtfffff help me please someone. I am a struggling single mother and I need this.

Please and Thank you.

    • That’s frustrating and dishonest. You should have received their stimulus payments. However if she claimed them on her 2020 or 2019 tax return she will get the payments and most likely you’ll have to get them from her. I’m not sure anyone in the tax agency could help you. Perhaps a lawyer could.

    • File an amended return for 2020…prove you had kids with school enrollment or DCFS paperwork. They will issue EIp 1 and 2 to you. No clawback clause so mom will keep what she got. Use 1040x if you used 1040..but wait til after your refund comes, else they will stop it! You have 3 years to amend.

I had to pay to get my missing stimulus, which, sucks. So I think we got missed again. Idk. If they’re going off 2019/2020 this time, they should have our info. ‍♀️‍♀️ This is ridiculous. Seriously. I’m so sorry, and I hope everyone dealing with this is able to get it soon.

They should be taking their time this time around and getting payments for independents together along with the yours. That’s bull crap! Unless they will be arriving at a later time. I know the first stimulus I received my daughters two months later. Totally frustrating. Has anyone received the third stimulus with their dependents yet?

  17. Well I’ve had my son the entire time yet his dad claimed him on 2019 taxes. I also at the time had my daughter with me she was in the age group that did not get stimulus on the last go arounds but I took care of her and my son. She was pregnant and lived with me. I took her to appointments, fed her clothed her and bought everything for her baby. He also claimed her. I filed my taxes last year yet he did too and claimed them. Needless to say he has been getting there stimulus payments not me. I filed early 2020 and he didn’t file. Guess what?! I guess he wins again! He does not even help with my son or any of his kids grown or not. No child support or anything. He is sitting back doing nothing and getting $ once again. He didn’t file this tax time bc he knew I claimed our son first. Now they are still going off 2019 for his? My taxes are still processing. Geez …. The IRS is REAL smart . I need my $ I’m trying to start a business to take care of me and mine

      • That’s what I thought is they hold go off the 2020 return. I filed as early as possible and my return was Accepted by the IRS on February 17th. I did not receive ANY stimulus payments for the first and second so I had to claim both as a Recovery Rebate Credit on my 2020 Tax Return.
I have a dependent on this return as well.
I have Not received my Tax return at all yet and it’s been a long time: However; I have a pending Deposit for the 3rd stimulus for $1400 But NO $1400 for my DEPENDENT!!!! It’s like oh hey thanks for screwing me over the first two times here’s some money but yet no tax return and no dependent money whatsoever?!

        Pretty pissed off.
Does anyone know or have any information on when they plan to issue the dependent stimulus? If they got the adult one then do you think they will possibly send the dependent on a later date? They should have gone on my 2020 return being that it was even filed SO early with them and accepted by them.

Ridiculous that thousands of dollars are just gone for so many of us .

        • Was your tax return accepted processed and a refund was issued? Or is your return still being processed? I don’t understand the way they issue out these payments. I didn’t receive my dependents stimulus the second time around but received it when I claimed it on my 2020 taxes. With the first stimulus it was issued in two separate batches and I did t see my dependents stimulus until a couple mo the after they sent mine. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to how the IRS is processing and sending out payments owed to the American people.

        • I received a stimulus for myself but I have 3 dependents and didnt receive anything for them. Something happened with the EITC in 2019 where I werent able to file them something about a recertification. I sent that in when I did my 2020 taxes and the IRS website is still telling my taxes is being processed…just losing money smh..

        • Same thing for me…the exact thing…filed Feb 17th return was accepted and still waiting for the recovery rebate and I didnt get anything for my dependents for the 3rd round.

      • Drew:

The IRS accepted everything last month yes and I claimed the Recovery Rebate on my 2020 Taxes as early as possible so that this would not happen again and yet it’s still happening. Your saying you didn’t receive your dependents payments until after your adult one? Did you get your dependents this time around? Does anyone know if they even issue adult and dependents separately? Plus does anyone know HOW and WHEN the IRS is suppose to issue the funds for those that claimed the Recovery Rebate? I have not received 1st, 2nd, or 3rd , No dependents, no adults, and no recovery rebate.

Any information would be super helpful!
You’d think that they would be more organized regardless if they are overwhelmed. Personally they should have done Tax Returns 1st, Recovery Rebates 2nd, Adult Stimulus 3rd, then Dependents Last. Anyone know what their schedule is for each thing?

What has everyone received so far LoL I need to compare my issue to others experiencing the same problem ?!

When I use the payment tool it says “not enough information or not eligible”. Does it give you the same message? I’m not understanding what is going on either and it’s very frustrating. I hope this semi-helps and hopefully we will be seeing our payments soon!

        • I am getting the same message as you are. However I have a friend who had theirs deposited today and I looked up her info on get my payment and it says the same for her “payment status unavailable “ need more info ect. So I’m wondering if get my payment tool is working correctly

        • I didn’t receive my daughter second stimulus so I had to claim hers on this years taxes. That went through and I received my refund back with the second stimulus. For the first stimulus I received mine in June and then hers a couple months later late August I believe . As for the third stimulus I haven’t received anything yet, I’ve check Get my payment and they haven’t processed either yet. It’s frustrating.
Have you tried calling a tax advocate to help you with your situation? Their number is 1 877 777 4778. The help with refunds ect.

        • I received my dependent payments separately for the first 2 payments. This time I got everything at once. I am a nonfiler so I did the form last year for that. It seems like they do it differently each time. It also looks like everyone who filed 2020 taxes is not getting their stimulus as fast this time. My daughter always got hers right away and she has not seen hers yet this time, she filed her 2020 taxes and is eligible. However myaelf and my SO both got ours this time and neither of us filed 2020 yet.

        • Thanks for sharing Cortney – good info. And the link to the 2020 taxes causing delays is worrying!

        • Every time we got money i received my sons seperate. Last month i received the 600 after i filed the thing they said to file online to receive your dependants money. The next day after he signed the stimulus mine and my sons was deposited at the same time. i was in shock but figured they finally got it right since i had previously filed for the 600.

  18. I’ve got several issues:

    * only received $1200 the first go-around, never received $500 for my son even though I claimed him for the 2019 tax year.

    * did NOT receive the second stimulus check, and trying to use that stupid “Get My Payment” tool created by the IRS has been a waste of time. Kept getting some stupid “permission denied” error, day after day of trying, before I gave up.

On top of H&R Block always saying that I’m entitled to a smaller refund than what TurboTax says I’m entitled to, H&R Block is also so saying that in order for me to claim a rebate for the dependent portion of the first stimulus check (that I should have received because I claimed my son for the 2019 tax year), I must claim my son as a dependent for the 2020 tax year. My divorce agreement states that my ex can claim our son on even numbered tax years, and I can claim him on odd numbered tax years. How do I proceed?

I would suggest filing your taxes for 2020 if you haven’t received your dependents stimulus. I believe the IRS is going to base the third stimulus off of 2019/2020 taxes. Hopefully by the time the third stimulus is approved they will have had the kinks all worked out and give the money to people who need it.

How’s it feel to live in one of the greediest countries in the world? We’re all salivating over a $600-1400 check every 6-9 months, while other MUCH SMALLER countries paid ALL of their citizens the equivalent of $1000-2000 PER MONTH for covid aid. Sickening. My husband is from England, it’s stuff like this that makes me want out of this stupid country.

          04/02/2021.

Update on situation, I have not received my Recovery Credits for any missing stimulus payments and STILL not received my Tax Refund. Went to The Payment tool on IRS site and it says they can’t find any information or that I entered the wrong information when I am positive I entered the correct info, so those of you trying to do their stupid tools literally stop bc it’s a waste of time and it’s not accurate information at all.

Some of us got our tax returns accepted on February 17th that filed on the 12th and still don’t have a tax refund-I don’t have any update in regards to this yet other than I’m in the same boat haven’t gotten mine.
I file my own taxes and have done so for years because I work with a financial firm so I enjoy doing my own taxes to give my mind a bit of a challenge every year-It was Accepted but no Federal Refund Yet!
However I did get the IL State Refund which was basically nothing.

As for the Stimulus Issues; its sad to hear that no one’s situation has any updates or gotten resolved when I checked these comments.
For me to refresh again this is what I’ve gotten: 1st-No Adult,No Dependent
          2nd-Nothing, 3rd-$1400 Adult, No Dependent.

Honestly I doubt I’ll even see anything and would be shocked if I did at this point so I’ve tried to just assume it’s never going to get worked out.
I’m not sure why this is happening to everyone: it is not difficult to process a payment whatsoever I do this daily for work and it’s quite simple. However if your not organized and don’t consistently keep up with your payment ledger and book keeping them your just doing it manually and theirs no way to do that without messing things up. That’s what I assume their doing.

Drew last I saw you did not receive your daughter’s stimulus for the $600 2nd round and this time for 3rd-you’ve not received Your Adult payment OR Your Daughter’s. And you filed same as me February 17th, claimed RRC on your return and also have not seen a Tax Refund Correct?
Do you have any updates on your situation yet or still going the same?

My advice to everyone following this is to just assume you won’t get anything then when you least expect it it may come up but it’s not worth getting this stressed out about and it’s not healthy. I know it’s certainly not fair and it’s inappropriate what and how the IRS is handling things however there is literally NOTHING we can DO about it.
Don’t stress over things you can not change. I’m just as frustrated as you are but I’m so sick of the entire situation it’s given me migraines everyday and affecting me emotionally and mentally and I’ve about had enough of it!

Hopefully someday they return the money they’ve Stollen from us (Tax Refunds) and they will Issue all the Missing Stimulus, Recovery Rebate Credits, and Dependent Payments but these people who are working are idiots they have no clue what their doing I could probably work there and do it more efficiently then most of the idiots they hire LOL!

Good luck to everyone & should you receive updates on the situations you’ve posted here please continue to post your updates here!

      • I never received the $600 stimulus payment for my son. I don’t normally file taxes. What do you recommend for me to do to receive my son’s part . I don’t know where to start

        • You’ve got to fill out the 1040 form, you can do it for free under the IRS. It’s pretty simple if you use freetaxusa which is under the IRS it walks you through each step including the stimulus recovery portion.

      • Who did you file you tax return with? I tried turbo tax and I was not given the option to claim the missing dependent stimulus payment

        • The third stimulus will be based off of 2020 tax returns unless individuals haven’t filed taxes yet, then they will go off of year 2019. I don’t know, I think there’s going to be a real issue getting checks out to people as the IRS is so far behind and there have been so many glitches and mistakes. People who filed early aren’t receiving their refunds on time, I am one of those individuals who didn’t receive the second stimulus for my child and I filed early and I’ve yet to receive a direct deposit date. It’s been frustrating.

        • I used TaxAct after trying the Turbo Tax and H&R Block free programs. Neither TT or HB were able to handle some of the Covid related scenarios, but TaxAct (never heard of them), was fully prepared. I used the free online version , filed Feb 23, refund issued 2 weeks later and it included rebate recovery for my 2 kids. I think it’s just luck but I’d suggest trying TaxAct. Good luck!

        • I filed 2019 and 2020 taxes. I still haven’t received the third stimulus for myself or my son. When I check the “where’s my payment” tool, it’s telling me “they don’t have enough information or I’m not eligible”. I know I am eligible, so how don’t they have enough information? Does anyone know why this is happening? Thank you!

        • I would love to know how they are dishing these third round of stimulus payments out. Still haven’t received mine or my child’s yet I’ve received my refund

    • My name is Carolyn Adams I filed my 2018 taxes with my dependent and I filed my 2019 taxes but I didn’t receive no stimulus for my dependent

      • Then you will have to file for 2020 and claim the recovery rebate. As you go through the process of doing your taxes, you will be asked if you’ve received both stimulus checks. You’ll claim no on one or the other, and they will give you the stimulus as part of your refund if you qualify.

        • It will asked exactly the amount you received for stimulus 1 and two. With your dependent you are claiming, it should ask if you received the full amount of 1200 for the second stimulus. Your answer should be no. It’ll then factor in a 600 credit towards your refund.

    • I filed through H&R Block to receive missing child’s portion from first and second stimulus and the lady who did them for me said it shouldn’t happen with the third because they’ll have your updated info from filing, but we will see. I’m worried about that as well.

  20. Is it still the same after the new executive order signed today by President Biden. Will we still have to wait and file our taxes to get the dependent stimulus checks. Or are we the percentage of people that got are checks split in half both times apart of the new executive order also?

    Reply
    • Biden’s executive order had nothing to do with the second Round of stimulus checks that went out earlier this month up until January 15th. The executive order that he signed was to raise the minimum wage gap for federal employees and for food benefits to go out to people who need it. A third relief package is going to go to the floor but who knows if it will get passed. The mail system is still backed up so there’s a chance if your check was mailed out on the 6th you may still get it. If you don’t receive it you will have to claim it on your tax return this year. You’ll need to claim the recovery rebate.

      • Thats not what i’ve read or heard, it was also for the treasury to release the dependants stimulus checks for low income families and make ir easier to claim them and a 15% raise for foodstamps and a suggestion to change the requirements for families to get foodstamps. At least that what i got outta it. I was just asking are we apart of the low income families that he talking about. Because i recieved 2 check for the 1st stimulus, 1 for me and my husband and 1 for our 3 kids. So i kinda expected to get them separated again this time also.

        • I believe the executive order is for future stimulus checks to be sent out quickly for the American people if the stimulus passes. As far as food stamp raise and $15 wage for federal employees that executive was signed on Friday as well. That raise will go into effect. When I spoke to the IRS for the second stimulus because I hadn’t received my dependents stimulus they said because they had such a short window span (until Jan 15th) they were getting out what they could and there would be no second batches like there was with the first round of stimulus checks. I was informed I would have to claim the recovery credit on my taxes for the missing $600. I’ve read up on the executive orders signed and haven’t read anything that was signed for the second round of checks. If you look on IRS the get my payment tool is no longer there. I’m afraid we will all have to file it on our taxes.

        • Hello did u recieved the second stimulus for ur 3 kids in the mail yet?? Cuz I’m still waiting for my Son. I already got my 600.

        • They will not be mailing out dependents stimulus checks if you haven’t received them. They had a window between December 30th – Jan 15 to get as many check out as they could. If you did not receive your depends checks you will have to claim it on your taxes. Read the update to the article.

      • After reading a few articles on this it looks like Biden has signed executive order to have the treasury department create a tool for people to be able to claim their stimulus checks. But It’s not all that clear. It states the tool would be used for people who haven’t received their checks yet. Because there’s roughly 8 million people who’ve yet to receive anything as of yet. These would be people who don’t file taxes ect. They’d be able to go through the treasury dept to claim their checks. I’m not sure that’s for us individuals who haven’t received their dependents checks.

        Reply
        • Thanks Drew. Updated article to reflect this. I would still say filing via your tax return may be faster as the IRS will start processing refunds next month, which could include the recovery rebate credits. But for non-filers this tool (or reopening of the non-filers tool) will be a boon.

        • I’ve already filed mine as I didn’t receive the stimulus for my dependent the second go round and was told by the IRS there wouldn’t be second batches. Everything that went out from dec 30th to the 15th that was it. People who hadn’t received their checks would have to claim the recovery rebate which I did. The process is pretty simple on the 1040 form. So I would suggest filing a well if you didn’t receive your check.

        • I received my $600 stimulus check but did not receive the dependents check for my 3 children now that I have to file taxes for the rebate recovery it says they will garnish the whole thing because of past child support like they did the first checks this is not fair to my children

        • I was under the impression the second stimulus was protected from folks who owed child support. My brother received his and although he’s current on his child support at the moment there was a time when he wasn’t and he owes some back child support. His second stimulus did not get garnished however his first did. The second stimulus was suppose to protect Americans in your situation against this.

  21. I haven’t seen much information on this, please help! We file taxes every other year for our child. Biological mom has odd years we have even years. So she claimed her for her 2019 taxes and I’m guessing received the stimulus both times for child. We get to file her for 2020 tax year. When we go to file our taxes it asks us if we received both stimulus payments and to put the total amount we received. So it says we should have received $2900 the first time(we only received $2400) and $1800 the second time(we only received $1200). What do we claim? Do we have to contact her to see if she received it for the child and put the whole amount? Or do we not claim money we actually did not receive on our taxes thus resulting in a credit. I am nervous about claiming money on our taxes that we did not receive. I am not sure what to do but do not want to put the wrong thing that will result in a longer wait for our taxes.

    Reply
    • So you are missing 500 from the first stimulus and 600 from the second. When you do your taxes you should be able to disclose that when they ask if you received the full amount. Then on line 30 you would put what you did not receive which would amount to $1100. Before submitting just make sure the ex didn’t receive any funds

      Reply
      • Drew,

She would have received the funds since she filed her for 2019. We will be filing her this next go around and the way taxes are done it assumes we should have gotten the stimulus for her so if we put what we got it would then result in credit we shouldn’t get. I also don’t want to claim money we didn’t receive either since she was the one who received it, not us. It seems that there is a lot of different answers on this, I guess we will just put what we got and let the IRS figure out who should receive the credit.

        • I have the same problem somewhat. My son claimed my granddaughter that I adopted and am raising…I had surgery and he had to take charge of the household while I recovered. He received the 1st credit based off of his 2018 return and the second based on his 2019 return, but last year 2020, when the pandemic began, throughout 2020…this tax year we’re filing for right now? I was healed…my small business was up and running, everything was fine. So the second stimulus was sent to him based on his 2019 return and he kept it. On my 2020 return, I’m asked if I received the full amount for the second stimulus. Do I only list what I actually received for myself? Thanks!

  22. It says my payment was deposited into a bank account u no longer have in the 4th, a lady at the IRS said it would be returned to them and a check would be mailed out to me and still nothing. My wife’s was mailed in the 6th to her and still nothing. Whats going on?

    • Yes that seems to be happening for many folks. Just wait till the end of this week to see if you get it in a subsequent processing batch, otherwise you will likely need to claim it via your 2020 tax return.

        • I got a good one for you. My husband left us in November 2019. So, spring 2020 we filed separately. He claimed kids I filed individually. Refunds and stimulus went to joint account. No problem. We worked that out. So, kids lived with me all 2020. So spring 2021 hubby e filed taxes individually and I filed paper form February 22. My husband got his 2020 refund and $1400 individual stimulus to his private account. My paper return with my kids and my private account still not processed…so, they based my stimulus on my 2019 individual return!!! Kids are lost in limbo because they willy Nilly chose a year…instead of basing it on only 2020 return!!! What recourse do I have?

        • I read an article addressing this exact problem. It saif that when the IRS processes your return that they will send you the dependent payment if you did not hqve dependents listed on your 2019 return.

  23. I am tired of seeing where ppl say you should feel lucky bc you got your $600 but not the dependents $600 bc some got none. Like it’s our fault you got nothing and we should not complain bc we got shortchanged when everyone needs every but of money entitled to. I’m sorry you got nothing until you file for yours but at least your getting it. It just will be longer. So if you don’t have nothing nice to say, guess what, keep it to yourselves. Grow up and quit hatin. We all deserve what’s owed to us! I myself only got $600 and they owe me $1800 for my 3 kids. This sucks for everyone and we know it. I am very thankful for the $600 but guess what, it was gone 3 hours after getting it. I just wish they’d fix this stuff and make it right for everyone!

  24. I need clarification on my situation. Two of my dependents were claimed on someone else taxes in 2019 therefore this person received my dependents stimulus check. Stimulus checks were created to help everyone with the 2020 crisis. When I file my taxes for 2020 they will be on my taxes. Will I be able to submit the form to recover their stimulus payment. I feel like the IRS should make people payback the stimulus money for dependents who are not claimed on someone 2020 tax return. It is not fair for others to walk around with people money when it was NOT designed for them.

    • If someone already filed for them and they received your dependents first stimulus then no you wouldn’t be able to claim the rebate for the first stimulus on your taxes. However if you didn’t receive your dependents stimulus with the second stimulus package you should be able to claim the rebate on your 2020 taxes providing the individual who claimed your dependents the first time around doesn’t do the same or hasn’t already received your dependents stimulus the second time around. I would check with whoever took your dependents money the first time around and make sure they didn’t already get the money or they don’t plan on claiming the rebate for your dependents. That’s awful, I’m sorry you’re dealing with that.

    • I have the same predicament…only it’s my son. I worked during 2020…was sick the year before so he took charge of the household and claimed my adopted granddaughter. He kept the money.

    • Same happened with my son. Never saw the first or second payment. I filed 2019 taxes and claimed him. I’m sorry this happened to you. I feel your frustration.

    • With the 1st stimulus, my husband and I got ours right away but our sons came 4 months later. Now it happened again with the 2nd stimulus, we got ours within a week but not our sons. We use the Non-Filers tool on the IRS website. With the 1st stimulus, there was a glitch with the N-F tool which caused thousands a delay in getting their dependents stimulus. Supposedly they fixed it but, there are thousands that still have not received their stimulus money for their dependents from the 1st round of stimulus. (Such as, yourself) I’ve done a lot of research on this and came to the conclusion that if it happened with the 1st round of stimulus that it will happen again. However, supposedly this time they will have it fixed alot sooner. As far as your situation goes, I would suggest you call one of the IRS call centers. Also, if you are going to file taxes this year; (which is soon) you can claim your 1st and 2nd missing payments. The way to claim it on taxes this year is called, a ‘tax rebate’. I would call the IRS first to find out what all your options are. I would call ASAP! Good luck hun, I hope everything works out for you and your family. God Bless

      • Just a heads up from experience, you may want to call right when they open at 7am. I was told to do so and had the luck of getting to someone at the IRS this morning. With Minimal hold time, whereas before I’d call wait for an hour plus and I’d get a representative who’d have to transfer me over to another individual only to be hung up on due to high call volume. Stephanie is accurate about the above information, this time around there will be no second batches (as the IRS confirmed this morning) you’ll have to claim the rebate for your dependents on your 2021 taxes unfortunately. So much for emergency relief money!

        • If you don’t file taxes you will have to file a Non filers form on the IRS website. It’s too late as of now to file that and get the second payment out to you as the deadline is today. However if you fill out the non filers form for 2020 you should be able to claim the Recover rebate for the stimulus that you missed.

        • Thanks Drew and spot on in line with official IRS guidance on claiming the missing stimulus check (aka recovery rebate).

Who can claim the Recovery Rebate Credit?

Eligible individuals who did not receive the full amounts of both Economic Impact Payments may claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2020 Form 1040 or 1040-SR. To determine whether you are an eligible individual or the amount of your Recovery Rebate Credit, complete the Recovery Rebate Credit Worksheet in the Instructions for Form 1040 and Form 1040-SR.

Generally, you are eligible to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit if you were a U.S. citizen or U.S. resident alien in 2020, cannot be claimed as a dependent of another taxpayer for tax year 2020, and have a Social Security number valid for employment that is issued before the due date of your 2020 tax return (including extensions).

You must file Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit even if you are normally not required to file a tax return. Anyone with income of $72,000 or less can file their Federal tax return electronically for free through the IRS Free File Program. Free File is a public-private partnership between the IRS and many filing and tax preparation software providers who provide their brand-name products for free. The safest and fastest way to get a tax refund is to combine electronic filing with Direct Deposit.

    “Missing Stimulus Payments”
    (Filers & Non-Filers)

Eligible individuals can claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2020 Form 1040 or 1040-SR. These forms can also be used by people who are not normally required to file tax returns but are eligible for the credit.

The Recovery Rebate Credit is authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Any eligible individual who did not receive the full amount of the recovery rebate as an advance payment, also known as an Economic Impact Payment, can claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on a 2020 Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR.

      • I wish it were that easy as I am in the same boat as you. The IRS stated they wouldn’t be doing second batches this time around as they only had until Friday to get these payments out. So I would have to claim the Recovery Rebate on my taxes this year. I spoke with them early yesterday morning. It defeats the purpose of distributing emergency funds if they aren’t going to give everything that’s owed to the people who need it.

    • I filed the recovery rebate for the 1st and 2nd stimulus checks..i understand that the first one could be intercepted for child support and the second stimulus was protected by law 600 not to be taken. I was told I would get 1800 back none filers recovery rebate credit. Well got a letter saying 1808.13 was intersepted for child support meaning both checks plus 8 .13 in which I don’t know were they got that from..will I ever see any off my second check? I just received the 3rd one for 1400 via paper check

  28. We’re having the same issue as everyone else. I got my second stimulus payment, my fiancee got his, we filed separately and I claimed both of our kids. Now normally I don’t file taxes because I’m on SSD but I did a non filers tax form for the first stimulus payment. Now both our kids recieved the first payment but got it in August of 2020.they haven’t even recieved the second one and both our kids qualify for it being they are 4 years old(our daughter) and 17 months old(our son). You’d think the irs and treasury would know about them after I claimed them on my non filers tax return thing. This whole “hiccup” with the child dependent payments is getting to be ridiculous.

    • I was also cheated out of my child’s $600 stimulus payment & I’m also a non-filer. I just looked on the IRS website again & it now says that we will have to wait & file for a Recovery Rebate Credit during tax season on a Form1040. This is for filers & non-filers. We’ll probably be waiting for months. I’ve copied & pasted exactly what the website says about it below.

Eligible individuals can claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2020 Form 1040 or 1040-SR. These forms can also be used by people who are not normally required to file tax returns but are eligible for the credit.
