Key Dates and Coverage for the Extended PUA, PEUC and $300 FPUC Unemployment Insurance Benefit Programs

With an 11 week extension of funding approved for enhanced unemployment programs under the Continued Assistance for Unemployed Workers Act of 2020 (COVID Relief Bill), key end dates of the program have been extended as outlined in the table below per Department or Labor Guidelines:

Key Dates for PEUC, PUA and FPUC Programs

Enhanced Unemployment ProgramMax Weeks Available in ProgramProgram Effective Start Date (limited to maximum weeks available under program)Program End Date (no new claims after this)Payment End Date for Remaining Weeks
PUA Claims filed on or before Dec 27, 2020 (e.g. Active Claimant, getting UI benefits) 50 (39 + 11)If active agreement in place, January 27, 2020March 14, 2021April 10, 2021
PUA Claims filed after Dec 27, 2020 (e.g. New Claimants)14 (3 + 11)If agreement in place, December 1,2020 (claim effective December 6, 2020)March 14, 2021April 10, 2021
PEUC24 (13 + 11) Date of agreement - effective March 28, 2020March 14, 2021April 10, 2021
$300 FPUC11December 27th, 2020March 14, 2021N/A
$100 Mixed Earner Payment (Optional)11December 27th, 2020March 14, 2021N/A

Notes to table:
1. Table does not include extended state benefits which could mean additional weeks of PUA in certain states (e.g California which includes up to 57 weeks)
2. You can only get PUA if you don't qualify for regular UI or PEUC, so those weeks need to be excluded from maximum weeks.
3. New Claimants or those who had exhausted benefits have to apply and get their claim approved for back dating to December 1st. Otherwise they only get the new 11 week maximum under the extension funding from December 27th, 2020

Existing or expired claim balances should be aware of the following:

  • PUA and PEUC, FPUC will be automatically added to the claimants’ benefits if they are eligible for the extended weeks
  • Claimants with weeks remaining in UI should continue to file weekly claims (where possible)
  • Claimants who will have additional weeks in UI and PUA or PEUC due to state provisions (where applicable) should watch their state agency UI portal or website for updates that will allow additional weeks to be filed.
  • Claimants will be retroactively caught up on payments for all weeks they are eligible.
  • New Claimants can backdate their claim date to December 1st (first effective weeks of coverage is December 6th) and will be eligible for the 11 week extension from December 27th.

  3. According to Alaska, I had to file for unemployment first, before being eligible to file for PUA, then when that is exhausted, PFUC, I don’t know do I file or will that be automatically, generated to my account?
I filed for the first time ever unemployment here in Alaska, Now exhauated.
I went through the True I.D. process, in 2020, plus verify residency.
I worked for the U.S. CENSUS BUREAU, 10 weeks, I am now able to file for my first PDF, and also I just filed for the PUA. Problem is everyone wants my original birth certificate, I only have one copy, for my PFD they want me to mail it to Juneau, we are having mail issues through out the kenai peninsula, Soldotna area.
who knows if I will get it back, is there a similar online system to the on line PUA system to file the PFD ? The PUA system worked fast, clearly, and worked me through my application process.

  4. Why are people not being paid why they are waiting for a decision from the deputy commissioner. I thought they said on December 25th 2920 that they wl pay those who are waiting for reviews, and they are deemed ineligible they will have to repay benefits. I have not received a payment sine 12/16/20. When I spoke to someone they said I have to wait for the deputy to review my case because it has outstanding issues I was told they were only on June applications. June are you kidding me at this rate I will not receive a response till summer some time. How is this acceptable? People are literally struggling to eat and we are just suppose to wait. Can u please help assist in this matter

  5. ANDY,
HOPE your safe and well my friend! Thanks again for everything you do my friend!
Just need your expertise opinion one last time. I have exhausted every benefit available here in illinois(regular Ui, peuc(13 weeks) and extended benefits ran out over a month ago. I know as we’ve discussed previously I should still be eligible for the 11 additional weeks of peuc and the $300 fpuc just passed. My question is that our state unemployment(ides) site hasnt given out any info or directions other than saying that the $300 fpuc is available now for people with active claims and peuc available for people with active claims but nothing is mentioned on their site or social media about what to do for those of us who have already exhausted our balances and benefits and how to go about getting eligible for these added benefits. I know according to your one article you say to file a new claim, but there has been no directive or guidance from our state unemployment office(ides) to do that or how to even do that. Should I be worried in your opinion? Or should I just wait longer? Or on their phone system where it says to reopen your claim should I do that even though ides has stated no where that I should be doing that or given out any information to those of us who have already exhausted our benefits. Your advice would be greatly appreciated!!
