Retroactive Unemployment Benefits Back or Missing Payments for Expired $300 Weekly FPUC, PUA and PEUC Programs – Claim Weeks Covered

With the expiry of federal enhanced unemployment benefit programs like PUA, PEUC, $300 FPUC and $100 MEUC after September 6th 2021 in all states, there have been a lot of questions around what happens with ongoing, new and past payments. You can see the following sections where I discuss these in more detail.

Ongoing and regular weekly payments ended after September 6th (week ending September 11th in most states). This means a cessation of federal pandemic unemployment benefits for 8 million+ jobless or under-employed claimants which that will result in them losing all current and future benefits under the PUA, PEUC or supplementary $300 FPUC programs.

Retroactive Unemployment Benefits

States like New Jersey and California, have already stated that validated retroactive claims after a successful determination or appeal for eligible weeks (when the programs were in effect before September 6th) would be paid out over the next several weeks. Note, per the sections below, that back payments are limited to the program extension coverage periods.

Eligible Claimants should continue to certify for benefits for weeks they are owed unemployment. Any weeks of unemployment that occurred before these programs expire can still be paid retroactively if a claimant is later determined to be eligible for those weeks of benefits. Check your state unemployment website for more details on certifying for retroactive back payments.

Handling of Retroactive Unemployment Benefits

Retroactive benefits (or back pay) is legally required to be made by state unemployment departments for all eligible weeks under the PUA and PEUC programs. Weeks where claimants got at least $1 of unemployment would also qualify them for the extra $300 FPUC program payment.

Biden ARPA Unemployment Benefit Extensions

Congressional leaders and the President have now passed another COVID relief stimulus package into law. The package includes funding for extending the $300 FPUC weekly boost, Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) and Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) programs to September 6th, 2021 or the earlier end date some states have chosen to end participation in these federally funded programs.

Eligible claimants who certify under existing programs like regular state UI, PUA, PEUC or EB for the applicable weeks will automatically get the extra $300 FPUC unemployment Claimants who had exhausted their PUA or PEUC benefits and needed to wait for their state unemployment departments to update UI programs will be retroactively caught up for back payments in subsequent weeks – however their may be some manual intervention required in certain cases as discussed below.

Will I get my retroactive or back payments if my states end benefits early?

With many states ending their participation in the federally funded unemployment programs several weeks earlier than the September 6th end date, a lot of claimants who have had delays or issues with their claims getting paid were naturally worried if they would get back payments. The answer is Yes. Because the funds are allocated at a federal level, the state unemployment agencies are obligated to pay any eligible new or existing claim payments prior to the end date of the state’s participation in the program.

States had to provide 30 days notice to the US DOL prior to ending the PUA, PEUC, $300 FPUC programs. This also requires them to ensure retroactive payments are made on claims prior to this notice period. After the state’s termination date no new or active claim payments will be made. Not surprisingly many states are still struggling with large backlogs and fraudulent claims, so it is expected it could take several weeks for some states to make back payments for eligible weeks.

How Far Back Can I Claim the Retroactive Unemployment Benefits?

As discussed in this article, the new $300 FPUC payment for 2021 will only be retroactive to the start date of the new program coverage period in the same manner as previous supplementary UI benefit programs. This means that back payments for the new $300 FPUC are not payable retroactively for any week prior to December 27th, 2020 (under CAA) or March 14th (under Biden ARP extension), even if you were getting PUA and PEUC for the last several months.

Will I get Back Payments Automatically Applied or Manual Claim/Actions Required?

Once states are able to update their IT systems to pay the extended PEUC and PUA benefits (see this video for a discussion of the PUA mess and PEUC rollout challenges) they are automatically adding the extra weeks to eligible claimant accounts. One the claimant claims or certifies for the relevant weeks they should get payment for current and past eligible weeks.

However due to the complexities, unique cases or system limitations some states area asking claimants to take manual actions to get back payments. For example in Pennsylvania (PA), claimants on PEUC are being requested to email the UC Help Desk for backdating retroactive weeks. Similarly in IDES in IL is asking claimants to call their call center representatives to discuss backdating their claims

So essentially if you cannot claim your past weeks online or you have received a current/recent week payment but no back payments for prior eligible weeks or any official notification of delays, then you will likely have to take a manual action via your state UI agency to get your payment.

What about States Ending Pandemic Unemployment Benefits Early?

Several states have already announced they will be ending their participation in the federally funded unemployment programs early (see full list) in a bid to encourage jobless workers to return to the workforce.

In this situation retroactive payments for any eligible claims filed prior to the states pandemic program participation date will continue to be processed and paid. Retroactive benefit payments could occur several weeks after the end date for covered weeks as states update systems to account for the end of these programs and revert back to their traditional unemployment programs/systems.

[September 2020 – Expired Programs] While the $600 FPUC program has now ended (see update below), with no formal extension in place due to a Congressional stalemate, it was been replaced by the Lost Wages Assistance (LWA) unemployment benefits program. You can see this article for details on the now expired temporary LWA $300 weekly payment (some states are making a $400 payment) that President Trump approved in mid-August (using $44bn of FEMA funding) via executive order. Most states have made all payments under this program (full list here) including retroactive payments.

Based on reader comments its clear that some people are still getting or waiting for their $600 FPUC retroactive back payments. That is a different program to one paying the LWA benefits and back payments will continue to be made to eligible claimants. It has however expired for new or continuing claims as of August 1st, so if you lost your job after that time or were expecting the $600 then you would be out of luck. You need to leverage the LWA program and benefit for that.

So if you are still getting at least $100 of benefits under current and enhanced benefit programs (like PUA and PEUC) then you should continue to certify on weekly or bi-weekly basis to receive current and retroactive $300 weekly payments. Both the payments are being administered and paid by state unemployment agencies. So you would need to contact them if you are having issues with these payments. See below and comments section for helpful tips.

Update on $600 FPUC Retroactive Back Payments

All states and territories have now updated their unemployment systems to account for the extra $600 Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) payment to those eligible for regular unemployment insurance (UI). While the roll-out and payment of these benefits has been plagued by challenges with some states struggling a lot more than others, millions of Americans have now received their entire extra/stimulus unemployment benefits. As a reminder, the additional $600 weekly payment, including retroactive benefits should occur automatically (unless specified by state unemployment site) for anybody eligible for any amount of state unemployment benefits — even as little as $1. The payments, including retroactive or backdated payments for eligible weeks a claimant has certified, will continue through the end of year, even the program ended for new claimants at the end of July.

The good news is that even though payments have started later the planned, they will be retroactive to when states signed up to receive the federal boost for their unemployment programs. This is generally for the week ending 4/3 in most states. So if you were eligible to receive unemployment compensation from that week then you would be eligible to receive payments from that date. The table below shows when states started making the $600 FPUC payment and when the payments were retroactive to.

Unfortunately many readers have noted issues with these retroactive payments whereby they have not received them at all, even though they had gotten their first $600 payment per state schedules. So while many were expecting a large first payment worth thousands, they ended up getting just their base $600 payment. And when they contact their local state unemployment agencies they cannot get a clear answer and are told just to wait while they clear back logs of new claimants. See more reasons why your $600 payment stopped or was delayed.

Given the delays in getting paid your unemployment checks, many jobless workers may be worried that they could be missing out on payments for the extra weeks they were unemployed. The good is that individuals still waiting on a decision regarding their unemployment eligibility will receive all back weeks of FPUC due to them, even if that decision is made after the end of the current FPUC program in July. They may need to go back and certify for weeks they were eligible (which will vary by state), but they will eventually be made whole for unemployment payments they qualify for.

Backdated Payments with PUA claims

Several readers have asked if the $600 payment will be back dated for those who become eligible for state unemployment benefits under the PUA program. While this is subject to the different timelines of the PUA and FPUC programs, generally speaking if you qualified for the PUA program between early April and the end of July, you would be eligible for FPUC benefits per the dates shown below. This includes backdated payments for weeks you were eligible. In most states backdated PUA and FPUC payments will be paid in one lump-sum one to two weeks after you receive your first payment of eligible state UI benefits.

How to File for Unemployment Benefits Back Payments

Many of the recent comments in this article reflect the challenges with actually being able to claim unemployment back payments for eligible weeks. In particular getting through a live agent or getting a response from your local state agency has been a challenge – which has often meant stress and panic around the status of your unemployment check, and if you will even be getting paid one for current or past weeks.

While it varies by state, the following are the key ways to file and get your retroactive unemployment payments:

  • To claim past weeks or correct dates you will generally have to contact your state UI agency and get them to retroactively certify you for past week. Getting an agent is a challenge, so may agencies are offering secure message as a way to lodge your claim. New York is doing this extensively and people have reported this is more effective than trying to get through to someone.
  • States like Florida have actually setup dedicated phone lines and options (e.g choosing Option 5) to modify the date of unemployment claims or to certify for past weeks. In California, there is a dedicated site to certify for past weeks to confirm your eligibility (retroactive certification).
  • Some states like PA are trying to do more of this online through their unemployment portals/dashboards, and actually are recommending claimants experiencing any errors or issues email (rather than call) their state agency. But response times are still expected to be several days.

Your determination for benefits ad back payments (including under the PUA program) will generally be mailed to you or available on your state agencies online unemployment account or dashboard. This is probably the most up to date place and once approved payments will be made in one lump sum either via direct deposit or debit card

Is my State Processing Unemployment back payments?

The answer is yes. All state UI agencies and departments are processing claims and will backdate your claim to when you first became unemployed, as reported by you when you enter your last day of work. You will need to generally contact them to update your unemployment date if incorrect so that they can correctly pay retroactive benefits. However states like Florida, North Dakota, Arizona and Ohio are still well behind making these retroactive payments due to IT system issues around certifying eligibility for past weeks and taking initial claims for new worker groups (e.g freelancers) eligible for unemployment and the extra $600 under PUA provisions.

  1. I am in Florida. My effective day is 7/5/2020 on PUA. I called DEO to request to modify the date and the lady told me that I am NOT eligible to be backdated. I called again to try to get somebody else and the 2nd person told me that it would ATUTOMATICALLY backdated to 3/29 eventually since I am on PUA. However, nothing had changed so I called DEO again on 8/27 and requested to modify my effective date to March. This lady told me ” If that’s the case, You got right person in right department! I will make a change to 3/29. Give me a second… Ok, done! But its gonna take some time to reflect on your DEO page, so please be patient.” 3 agents told me 3 different answers but I felt like I finally got the right person to take care of. ( By the way, I called those 3 times with exact same number )
Now, Its been 3 weeks and half since last phone call. But my effective date has NOT changed nor have NOT gotten paid for retroactive payments. I know she told me to be patient, But I wonder if I should call again. Or is there e-mail address in Florida for me to write them to request the date change???

U wanna see if they fix your effective day all u have todo is log in your account and if your effective date is the same as the old one they didnt fix it. was told the same. We fixed it give it a week and nothing. All the agents tell me different stories. And nothing has been done going on 4 months now . i call at least 3 times a week . i had agents tell me wow 4 months almost and nothing. I been on the phone at times for 5 hrs. I was also told it depends on the supervisor if she really want to help she would do her best. Good luck.

      • Yes, I noticed that different agents have told me all different stories. I’ve been waiting for them to change my effective date for 3 month but you have been waiting for longer than that.
Last agent that I spoke with, told me that I wouldn’t get $600 PEUC even if they eventually change my effective date and get paid retroactively on my weekly benefit. Since I was expecting to receive $600 weekly PEUC once my weekly benefit is backdated, I was dissapointed.

    • I am in the same position! Different answers all the time, if you can even get through. I was told, in May, to appeal my original application, which was in March because there were glitches, and then re apply. I told her I was afraid an appeal would hold me up, but she told me I had to file it. So, I did. I explained , as a 1099 worker, I did not expect to get regular UI. I was just appealing the PEUC and FPUC from March. It has all been so confusing. I am on the phone and online all the time, trying to figure it out. In May, I refiled as told, and got approved for PEUC and the $600.00. I even filled out the form to back date my app. to March, as I was told to do. Still nothing. In July, I was told I should get it by August. That she, ” moved me to expedite.” In July, they also changed me to PUA. Which I had to research, as I did not know the difference, and neither did someone at DEO! In August, I was told that the back dated app was not correct. “They changed it and had a new form.” I am like, seriously? How would I know that. Unbelievable. So, the guy said he filled out the new form on the phone for me and submit it: and, “You should be fine.” Still nothing. I kept the appeal hearing, Sept. 24th. I told the adjudicator I was appealing for the FPUC and PEUC from March, just as I said on my appeal app. He said he could not help me with that. The hearing was just for regular UI. I said, well I was a 1099 employee Janurary, 2020 – March when Covid hit. He said he was sorry, but could not help me. I said, Could you at-least note it on the appeal, as I chose to withdraw from the appeal when he said he could not help me. He said he would. I receive the withdraw letter, but there is no notation as to why I withdrew ( ie: He could not help me with t FPUC! I called again to f/u with FPUC from March. They said it was , “held up because it was in appeals.” I said, “that is exactly why I did not want to appeal in the first place” Then, I was told there was some kind of notation on my FPUC backdated form now, that it was good ( I cannot recall what she named it.) But she said, ” You should be okay now. Just wait.” WAIT?) I still have heard nothing. My connect account say 3/20/20 active. But, I was approved for my second. May 5th application , which says active as well. It clearly shows, on FPUC payments, my payments received so far are only from 5/08/20- 7/25/20. Can they not do the math? I do not get it. As of this moment, I have the phone by me awaiting, now one hour, for a call back from DEO: again! Even though, last week they said, “do not keep calling, just look at your connect site frequently.” I told them, even the adjudicator told me to keep calling them!” This has been the biggest, most confusing nightmare! No straight answers. Lies. Lack of communication. Phone ringing. It is them. Here we go, again. Should be fun! Ugh!

I asked for a supervisor and she said I cannot speak with one. “We were told we cannot put you through to a supervisor, that they do the same things we do and all we can do for you now is send another backdated form! ‘ It is crazy. I told her ,”Do not fill out/send another backdated form! I am not stupid, it will be sent to the back of the line AGAIN.” Useless. I am at my wits end.

  3. North Carolina will only backdate your effective date if you meet their narrow criteria (04 NCAC 24B .0105). I was denied after months of fighting for back pay. Even though my employer failed to notify me about unemployment, NC DES said I had to prove that my employer *didn’t* have a notice about unemployment hanging in their office. Because of COVID, I never got to start the job to go to the office. I’m missing out on thousands of dollars over this. I’m very upset because the federal government meant for me to receive that money, but my state is blocking me from receiving it.

I need help clarifying the $300 LWA retroactive pay, I have certified for all weeks stated by UIA in MI with my Weekly Benifir Amount being over $100 before deductions my only problem is after September 06 my PUA claim was closed but a new claim for PUEC was opened, will I recieve the $300 retroactive pay from LWA for the weeks I certified even though the claim was closed after the dates of payout?

    Reply
    • You should. Some people were put on PUA temporarily, then automatically put on PEUC. If you had UI, PUA, or PEUC, on August 2st, you should receive ( depending on your State ) up to 4 weeks. Possibly 1,200$. Most states were only able to pay either 3 or 4 weeks. As long as your UI, PEUC, or PUA is over 100$, then you should qualify.

I received weekly requested payments and 600 payments as well Only dated back to the day I got approved in JUNE BUT When applying my date I stopped working was April 30th ! I no longer see that date anywhere. I keep seeing PUA backpay is automatic BUT How do I know if I’m really getting it because I am not seeing April 30th anywhere , only the date I was actually approved. I’ve been patiently waiting for my back pay it’s been 6 weeks now. Can someone please help me with my next step ? Should I just wait ? Should I confirm I’m on the backpay list from April 30th? & How?? Because I can’t get a person on the phone. Please please please help. Thank you !

    • I believe as soon as you start back to work, everything is stopped. If they owe you money, then yes, you will get it, but only up to the date you started working. Many people are running into this same issue.

  8. Will Tennessee approve a wage protest if wages were out of state? All of my base wages are from Tennessee but my last job. My separating job was in Georgia but I ended up moving back to Tennessee after my job closed because of Covid-19. I filed for UI in Tennessee and put my last job as being in Georgia on my initial claim but when I got my first monetary determination they took that job off. While my last work day was 03/29/2020, they put my start date as 07/12/2020 when I filed my claim. I called and finally got someone on the phone after all this time and told them that my last job which I was laid off from due to Covid-19 was taken off of my monetary determination. She told me that they were going to put my claim in, but what I want to know is, if they change my start date to the last day I worked, will I receive retroactive FPUC from then or will it start when I filed my claim being the fact that my last job was out of state?

    • I am fairly certain you are not eligible for FPUC benefit of 600$. You have to make 1$ to be eligible, and if they withheld your unemployment for a legitimate reason, and your payment is zero, then no, you will not receive the FPUC. I’m sorry, that stinks.

      Reply
    • Any weeks that you did receive over 1$ between March 26 and July 24th, then Yes, you are eligible for the FPUC. ( 600$ )
You must make at least one dollar.

I tried to apply back in March 19th but got booted out so when I finally was able to file and approved June 14th I shows that as my start date I have been waiting since then for my date to change. I have sat on the phone for 4hrs twice and just keep getting told I have to wait it’ll just change. Then call today they say we don’t know if it’s something holding it up or it’s approved and just waiting to change. Now my current UI has only one payment left on the account and still no update. Idk what Florida doing right now.

    • Be happy, you will automatically be transferred into a PEUC program and receive what you normally receive for 13 weeks. On top of that, you should receive an extra 600$ from the start date to June 24th. That’s alot of money. Most get it one lump sum, minus taxes. Usually you will get your first payment of 600$, then the rest in one lump sum. You can potentially be getting a check for 9,800$

I quit my job and my last day was end of February, I was planning on taking a month off and then looking for work afterwards. 3 months pass and I decide to see if I was eligible for PUA at the end of June and was expecting to be turned down for UI so I could continue on with PUA. I was approved for UI. My former employer received a notice and replied back that I quit, so I waited to be turned down so I could continue trying for PUA. After many emails from DOES asking for my social and name and me telling them the same story, I finally got someone on the phone last Friday and she told me that I was stuck in UI and could not be transferred over to PUA and my former employer would not receive any increase to the employment taxes, (which my former employer has not) that most everything has been waived and to start claiming. I want to claim but want to make sure I’m not doing anything illegal and this coming back and kicking me in the butt. Has anyone else heard about the regular rules being waived? Especially the employers having an increase in the employee taxes part being waived. Thanks all.

    • Hi Adam, The Tax Foundation has a good article regarding those states which have and have not created plans to shield businesses from the increase in unemployment caused by Covid.

“As of mid-May, 26 states and the District of Columbia have declared—mostly through executive order or labor department guidance—that COVID-19-related layoffs will not be charged against employers for purposes of calculating the experience ratings that determine their UI tax rates.”

You can find the specifics, by state here.

As for you UI, some states are waving rules like work search requirements, others are loosening their limitations on standard UI. In most cases this is documented on their UI COVID pages. I would start there, and also document every conversation, with names and dates, for confirmation just in case.

      • Hi Teresa

Thank you for replying. I have an update since last Sept 4th. I woke up to an email from a UI investigator asking me to answer questions within her email and based on my answers she would make a decision. I got her on the phone and told her the previous week I spoke to someone ( I gave her the name) and they told me I should start claiming, she said to to continue claiming and she would allow or block it based on her decision and would get back to me after Labor Day with a decision. The day after Labor Day I received another questionnaire email, not from her, and called her (got her, I have her direct #) to ask if filling this out would maybe start another investigation in tandem w/ hers and she said, ignore it as it is auto generated and she will get back to me. The following day (Wednesday) I checked the UI portal for my claim ($444) and it was zeroed out. As of today it still says zero and has not hit my bank like last weeks did and have not heard from her. I’m also concerned I will have to pay back the $444 if she finds I am ineligible.
Anyway that’s my tale, I will update if I her anymore and hope it helps people on this forum.

        Thank you
        Adam

  14. hey NJ here, i filed my ui claim a month ago got approved now im waiting on my debit card (filed for 3 weeks already and bank of america said the balance is what it should be, how long until i recieve the back pay for unemployment) should come through ups tomorrow (sun aug 30th). does ups delivery sundays? also do i have to apply for retroactive payments for either unemployment or the $600 boost ?or does it come a few days later automatically in jersey like in other states, the 600 back pay or ui? anyone know? if so number or website would be greatly appreciated. when the 300 comes for jersey were getting backpay from aug 1st i believe but might not recieve it until late september, which kinda sucks but also be nice to get a larger lump-sum. i know im all over the place its 3am and im tired af. so if you understood anything i wrote lol some advice or info would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

    • Jersey back at you. It took me awhile to get UI and extra 600, but I finally got UI and most of the 600. For some strange reason, they didn’t pay the first 4 weeks of extra 600. I’ve called thousand of times and got through 3 times. They said they’re escalating this, but can’t tell me anything else. I got regular UI therefore making me eligible for the 600, but there’s a strange problem getting the first 4 weeks. UGH. So hard to get an answer. Good luck.

      • NJ here as well. I am curious to all this as well. I didn’t even know I could file until last week. I was approved for unemployment and tomorrow will be first day i have to check in. I still didn’t get a card yet. Will that come anytime soon or should I call the bank and let them know I haven’t gotten one? How are all my payments going to come as well? Will they give me a lump some of money from UI or the 600? I know the 300 is suppose to come all at once but when does any of this happen? how will they catch me up on the back pay for UI or will they just prolong these payments for months just getting my 230 weekly?I never even got email or anything about the 600 but i know we are all entitled to it if we were accepted for unemployment but I never heard anything.Am I suppose to hear about it or just wait and see?And again how will they be paying me that? All at once? Weekly? Please someone help me figure this out. It’s been on my mind nonstop. I’ve been struggling for months out here. Thanks

        • You will not be receiving any back pay of 600$ because it ended in July. You stated you just filed for unemployment last week? ONLY if you had, or were accepted for unemployment during the weeks between March 24th and July 24th, will you receive ANY back pay for FPUC ( 600$ ). If you were eligible, and your State states that your “start date” is within those weeks, then yes, you will receive not only the FPUC, but your UI benefits as well. Hope this helps, good luck.

      • This is my problem right now in Indiana….I was approved for regular unemployment (not PUA) and submitted the back dating form via email on August 25th (today is October 6th) and I haven’t heard a thing yet! I guess I shouldn’t be complaining because at least I am getting a fraction of my pay ($190 per week) but I have been out of work for months….I REALLY REALLY NEED that backpay because all of my credit cards are maxed out from charging my regular monthly bills and healthcare. And it is even scarier to hear they are denying most of the backdating requests…it’s getting hard to make my minimum payments here and I’ve already begged and borrowed as much as I could from friends and family. Any advice very much appreciated!!!

        • My advice is to hang in there. You will get it soon, I’m sure it feels like forever for you, but in the UI world, it’s not, trust me! Hopefully you should get it this week. If you haven’t received it by the end of the week, then I would call.

  15. I’m in PA. Filed for pua August 23rd , approved that same day , out of work since March 13th which I put as my last day of work , claimed my 1st week today (August 30th) but no back weeks how do I request back pay & tht $600 ? Owed weeks since March ! Also my effective day says August 23rd the day I applied how do I have them fix this ? My last day of work was 3/12/20. It’s not allowing me to claim back weeks . Everybody is aware of the phone lines etc how can I get this fixed ASAP ??!

    • You can email [email protected] and put your name I’d number backdate request in subject line. Your social date backdated. And reason due to covid. Or call them. Sometimes it’s hard to get through. Takes 1 to 2 weeks. For them to review and submit . Your state has technical service email. You could Google to make sure of correct one.

        • I called on Friday (yesterday) just bc I was so concerned about my back pay & lord was great because I didn’t wait to long maybe 35-40 mins mind u I got threw to the reg uc just to see if they had a WORKING number for pua, I called pua right away Soons I hung up with reg uc (started calling about 7:58am) was on hold maybe 30 mins got threw ASAP ! She told me I have to email over my id with a photo , my social & a letter frm my employer of why I was laid off , also had 1 a active issue but never said what was the issue so thts why has me be consistent & keep trying to call but she said keep checking my dashboard for my back dated weeks to claim . I asked how long would it take she said she don’t know but just keep checking my dashboard (been checking every sec since yesterday ) praying My weeks will be there tomorrow when I claim my weekly certification! So just be consistent & call them (I called that 855-284-8545) even when it says this phone is not insevixe check for updates keep calling that just means they system is over loaded with waiting calls , when a caller hangs up your be able to get tht msg thts this number is busy blah blah !! I actually emailed my documents(have to upload your documents on to ya dashboard first then email tht verify email address that it’s been uploaded)while she was on the phone because I had everything already handy already oh & I recieved an automated email abt 3 mins later stating they did recieved my email about the documents I uploaded so praying like praying bad my weeks will be available tomorrow ..it also still says I have 1 open issue so not sure how long tht takes to go away or why but ugh . • Thanks Phyllis! Do you already receive your debit card or how did you get your deposit. I filled my initial claim 3 weeks ago and still haven’t received my debit card. When I filed it said I would have the card in 7-10 days.

        • Ya welcome & yes I already one that’s I got like last year before this whole covid19 started , if u already have one they won’t send another . I would just call the 800 number to check the status ….

    • I keep seeing this question come up with back pay. Even though you may put down what your “stop date” of work is, the States need to confirm that with your employer. So it may initially show up on the portal as the date you submitted, but often it changes, depending on what your old boss submits as the date.
This could be the “time gap” that people are having.

  16. Hey guys. So on 5/10/2020 I lost my job due to the pandemic.
I applied for unemployment and wasn’t deemed eligible up until 7/12/2020. A whole 9 weeks! On 8/5/2020 I called and spoke with a representative explaining them my situation and they updated my effective date from 7/12/2020 to 5/10/2020 about 3 weeks later. Now, about 3 days ago I saw the change reflect on my connect account. I was able to go back and certify for those weeks.
I was paid the weekly benefit amount the next day in one lump sum, now today, I was paid the $600 boost in one lump sum. Do direct deposit if you can!! Otherwise I would’ve had to wait a week or more for a check in the mail. I am in Florida. Hope this helps!

    • So can you tell me how many days or I guess I should say how long (lol) it took from the time u claimed ur retroactive back weeks and received the lump sum payment the very next day u til u got the federal $600 retroactive payments lump sum direct deposited. I’m in Florida and just received my lump some of weeks today (8/27) and claimed than yesterday so I’m just trying to see about how long I will be waiting for the back pay of the $600 payments lump sum direct deposit??

      • When you log into connect & go to “view & maintain..” then click on “FPUC $600…” do you see where it says the $600 that they owe you were direct deposited? If so, you will receive it by tomorrow or Monday. If not, you have to wait until it tells you it was direct deposited, which you’ll usually see within 3 days.

        • Yes I do know what your talking about but what my question is for the retroactive back pay payments will it be the same. Like I claim my weeks (15 in total dating back from 3/29 to 7/11 i did 8 yesterday (8/26 and the other 7 today 8/27) and I received the first 8 I claimed, today through direct deposit so I’m assuming the 8 $600 federal pandemic payments will post to my bank account tomorrow just like it did at the end of July (I was able to finally get into the system and apply for unemployment after months and months and months of failed attemps) and than the following 7 weeks I claimed today 8/27 so I’m assuming those will also post to my account tomorrow and than the other 7 federal pandemic $600 payments will post I’m assuming Monday bc they don’t post payments over the weekends (from what I understand that might not be tru for Florida lol but thaaaat where I am so lol who knows). And both the 8 $600 federal pandemic payments AND the other 7 $600 federal pandemic payments will all post in a lump sum right??? Does all this sound about right?? I started claiming and from how I’ve been payed this is how is worked for me?? Lmk what u think or if u no anything different

        • Did amyone elses say pending onve backdated it allowed me to claim my 8 backdated weeks on 8/26 i was updated to earlier filing date 8/25 it says hold on payment status.

        • Wait so like u claimed 8 of ur back pay weeks on 8/26 (and idk what u are talking about with the 8/25 date lol) u should have received all 8 weeks the following day in ur account (sometimes later in the day like mine ALWAYS comes in around noon for some odd reason but idc as long as it’s there lol) and then one 8/27 u should’ve received all 8 $600 federal pandemic payments. Is ur money being directly deposited into your bank account or on the Way2Go card

        • I’m in Texas got approved for unemployment and have been waiting about 3 months with no covid or regular ui backpay. When will Texas pay me?

        • Thanks Destiny, We applied on the appeals form for backdated for my wife as she was also unemployed in March due to job/covid but didnt get approved with FL & got approved with PUA in June finally. So, Before the appeals form for backdated $ went away, we applied. Today they, like you, just approved her going back to March 8th and she had 14 weeks to certify for. But I was reading the checks for 600 didnt start until Week of March 29 ending April 4. So since wee applied all the way back to 3-8, that’s 14 weeks but the 1st 3 there was no 600. So according to you, she should get 14 weeks for her regular weekly benefit (Lower than 275 but above the $100 required), and then 2 days she should get 11 weeks (Mar 29 week is when 600 started) of the 600 in 1 lump sum correct ? It took 2 months but we logged in today and it say you have 14 weeks pending, From March 8 to mid June. So I am assuming its SAME as your situation. We are in FL and FYI FL just got approved by FEMA yesterday for the extra $300 for 8-31, but hasn’t said when it starts yet

          2. For people that say they are approved but never got $, you STILL have to login either weekly or bi weekly & claim the weeks EVEN IF YOUR STATE WAIVED WORK Requirements. FYI. So you might want to login to your acct’s to check & claim weeks or call in and tell them you were NEVER TOLD you had to do it every 2 weeks.

        • Yay that’s good news! Her situation is the exact same as mine. Glad you guys will be getting what is owed to you. It takes role but it gets done (:

        • THank you. Do you know if Florida time matters when you apply? We normally fill them out in the AM but she did it at like 5 pm today. I know previously when she was getting the 600 the next day would be the normal pay like U got, and 2 days later was the 600. That is NICE to hear that you got the 1 lump sum for the 600 which is what I AM PRAYING goes through. If you just got it that means there is still money left over. THANK YOU– So, we are in dire need (All August was just basic as you know).

          2. Glad to see the FEMA approved us for $300 & That is Auto Retro to week ending August 1, so now we are OWED again already 5 weeks this Friday. So by the time it starts, the might owe us 6 weeks. (At 300 though, ) but hey, 1800 bucks is still helpful when we are all struggling. I was just shocked it had that many weeks (Her back pay) but then realized she wont get the money back from March 8th –only Week ending Apriil 4 since it wasnt law yet. HOPING DIRECT DEPOSIT GOES IN TOMORROW LIKE YOU—————THANK YOU,YOU WERE SO HELPFUL READING YOUR COMMENTS TODAY! Dom

        • I got mine backdated on Aug 25th claimed weeks availability came aug 26th for backpay but no depoait right after it says hold for monetary. But within 3 days of calling with all this to get backdated it was done and ready to claim so maybe now is where i have to wait. I hope the hold removes and they pay and hopefully yours gets paid on through. Goodluck all

        • Hi Destiny, Thanks. As you said, since they put up her past weeks she became eligible for, she did get the deposit for just the regular UI income for the weeks she got approved backdated in one sum. Now per what you got just last week, she should get the backdated 600 in 1 lump sum then? I HOPE THE “BANKROLL” left in the PEUC $ acct is still there. I would imagine it is as didn’t they expect 40/50 Mill ppl on UI income and the total was only 30 Million at 1 point with many getting off UI ? I WOULD HOPE THAT $ DIDNT RUN OUT……But if U just got it last week, that means they owe her the $. FINGERS CROSSED SHE GETS IT………………THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE…..

NON FLORIDA PEOPLE OR SOME IN FL
          2. PEOPLE that I have read that are Waiting for Unemp $$, YOU HAVE TO GO IN THE SYSTEM WEEKLY OR BI WEEKLY & CLAIM THE WEEKS as I have seen some ppl say they got approved & never got $. ONCE YOUR APPROVED they dont keep sending you your $$ You have to physically go in & Claim the weeks it says to claim on your state’s system & login. Or you can do it by phone I think.

          3. FOR BACKDATED MONEY IF YOU WERE UNEMPLOYED as of March & say didnt get approved till May/June, there was a form to Fill out that was titled for BACKDATED Unemployment. But it said on top of form, this is expiring (I believe it was beginning of July) and you MUST CALL IN to request after that date. FYI.

        • Well she did get the regular UI comp from FL for all the weeks on Tues but today the 600 lump sum was not deposited for back pay. I did go under payments for 600, and weird but it lists her old deposits from June & july, but the dates go back to week ending april 4 now, that changed. So I am assuming maybe a ton of back pay claims came in when people filed this week & its being worked on -She was approved in June so if they changed it to April for the 600, that means it must be coming soon . FYI. Hopeful tonight

      • It’s usually one week after the first payment. Remember that you will only receive back pay for the 600$ if it falls between March 24th and July 25th.
If you were deemed eligible for any of those weeks, then you will receive the extra 600$. If it was after the stop date, then you will not receive the 600$. Hope this helps!!!

My question is about the $600 enhance unemployment. Do i get back pay from the date the program was started. Or i just start getting the $600 from the week that i filed?

      • No, you only receive 600$ per week that you qualified in between the dates of March 24th to July 24th ( most states ).
For every week you were eligible between those times you will receive a payment of 600$.

        Reply
        • I called 1-833-352-7759 and option 5 and option 2 back in a month ago. So option may have been changed. Good luck!

        • Thank you ! I actually got in contact with them and was able to modify as well. I see you said a month ago, has your account updated to the modified date yet?

        • Hi, Latisha. It has been almost 5 weeks since the rep said that she modified to 3/29 on the phone. And No, my effective date has NOT changed on my DEO account, nor have Not got paid.It still shows 7/05/2020 as effective date. So I just called them ( 9/29 ) and was able to get rep on the phone after a few attempt. And this time, this rep told me that he or No rep can’t get the date change. They do NOT have an access to change the date in the system. Only the thing they can do is to put REQUEST to modify/change the effective date. However, he did tell me that it is supposed to get backdated automatically if you are in PUA. I asked him if I am still eligible to receive $600 FPUC which comes with weekly benefit once its backdated to 3/29 and he said NO. So, I was disappointed because I thought I would still receive $600 FPUC as retroactive even though FPUC itself ended on 7/25.
Did your effective date change right after you talked to rep???

        • Hey Heidi , my effective date did not change right after the call . It still says my original 6/07. I asked my rep if this is automatic or when will it happen and all she had to say was it will take a few because Florida is so backed up. She said I would get notification either way if it was denied or accepted.

        • Hi, Latisha. Did your effective date change since then? And if so, did you get paid for backdated pay? In my case, mine hasn’t been changed and its been more than 2 month since I called to request to modify the effective date. I still call them here and there but its either I can’t get through or helpless even when I am able to get agent on the phone. I am getting frustrated…
          I am in FLORIDA.

        • Hey Heidi, no it has not changed yet. I actually spoke to someone yesterday she said she see’s that there is a request to modify my date but it has not been approved yet. She said to keep checking back they are still very behind.

        • Hi, Latisha. I was able to talk to agent on the phone this afternoon ( 10/15/2020 ) after almost 2 hours hold.
She told me that she can’t do anything about it. And she told me that since I am on PUA, it is supposed to get backdated automatically to either last day of work or 3/29 whichever is later date is, but they are behind so it will take some time. That’s what I was told.

        • Hi, Latisha. Did they change your effective date yet? Mine got finally changed after waiting for almost 4 month since I had requested to modify. Only the thing is that they somehow changed to March 1st even though my last day of work was March 12th. I don’t know why especially because I clearly told them that my last day of work is March 12th and the representative on the phone told me that she sees March 12th as my last day of work in the system . So needless to say, I lost first 2 weeks ( 1st week of March and 2nd week of March ) because I couldn’t claim them since I worked that 2 weeks. Oh, well…
Hope your is changed by now.

        • Hey Heidi , yes mine changed too ! Great im glad to hear yours changed. Only thing is with mine , they filed under Reg Unemployment so they marked ineligible. They were suppose to be filed as PUA as that is what im under currently. So they put a request in to get it switched properly. So they told me another 2 weeks which is tomorrow so we’ll see then. I was so excited to see the weeks to pop up , i had a agent request the weeks for me then the next day I was so disappointed they filed incorrectly. Soo im still waiting, hope they get it together.

        • Hi, Latisha. Thank you for your reply. Mine was modified as PUA on the DEO website ( even though They changed to March 1st instead of March 13th and I lost the first 2 weeks of March because of that, oh well… ) However, at the same time I received the mail stating that my regular unemployment was ineligible and I was like ???. But I just discard it since I am on PUA just like yours. Now we know that their system is NOT as organized as it should. I hope they will fix yours on PUA soon!

        • Very unorganized! Thank you for keeping up with me through out this. You have been very help ful in getting me to the right place in this process !

        • Hi, Latisha! Did they finally fix your account and got paid everything that you are supposed to get paid?

Is your weekly benefit $125? I’ve heard that No matter how much you made in last 12 month, everybody who is on PUA gets minimum which is $125 weekly regardless.

    • I am also waiting, I have been waiting for almost 8 weeks now for an answer. My retroactive should date back to March, but, someone told me for Louisiana, they do the retroactive for you and it just shows up in your account one day. I’ve tried to email, call, etc. but no luck. I hope someone on here has some answers. Good luck!

      • Wow. And after all my searching online to find anything regarding Louisiana and retroactive backpay is that any week that is paid from the federal gov, PUA, etc., will be a week that was certified by the claimant. So if we expect to be paid for any week whether a current or backdated, we have to do a certification of some sort for said week. I’m just shocked this is the first place I’ve found anyone like me, in Louisiana, since it’s the first time! I’ve been searching everywhere for weeks it seems!

I’m drafting an email being careful to get my acronyms correct and I’ll try to call and ask one more time before I send the email. Frustrating.

Also, you will get it in no time. Trust me. 3 weeks tops. I know it’s probably not what you want to hear but, it will come.

        • I’ve requested to modify the effective date change from July to March. It’s been almost 3 months but nothing hasn’t been changed. I have been calling them meantime but same answer which is that we just have to wait. So 3 weeks TOP is No that case unfortunately. I am in FLORIDA.

  17. I was approved for unemployment but never received my debit card which has now been resolved but ui online says 2 paper checks were sent for $600 but I never received them and don’t know what to do. When calling fl unemployment they say they have nothing to do with it and can’t help. Does anyone know what I can do to get in contact with someone to be able to get those checks resent or direct deposited?

    • How were you able to receive your debit card? I still haven’t got mine. They keep sending me in circles and telling me they don’t know why it hasn’t been sent.

      • I kept calling and calling and when I finally got through to someone they said they were going to resend it but that one never came either. So I called again and the person I spoke to said she was going to send it through UPS as a one time courtesy and 2 days later it came.

      • You have a couple options to request a new card: Visit Replace my Card on the Bank of America website. Contact Bank of America at 1-866-692-9374 (TTY: 1-866-656-5913).
You do not need to have your old card number or speak to a representative.

  19. Florida here.

I signed up in 4/19/20 was approved on May 15th. But was only able to claim weeks in June. I assume that because I could not claim any weeks in may that I will not be receiving any back pay from the weeks that I was unable to claim due to their shitty website and not showing any weeks to claim?

    Reply
    • Hey,
Call them & use option 5. The next option I believe Is either 2 or 3 then you’ll be connect to someone. You may have to wait awhile, or you may not. But when you do speak to them, ask for your effective date to be changed to the date you originally applied/lost your job (4/19) and explain to them you were denied because you filled out your application wrong but it was finally approved on (5/15) but you were only able to certify weeks starting in June. They shouldn’t give you any problems. If they do change the effective date for you then it will probably take up to 3 weeks like mine did. But you will be able to certify for those weeks and get back paid.

  20. Michigan here. Finally received regular unemployment back pay. First received 2 weeks of regular unemployment and 1 week of extra $600. Then one week later, received 1/2 of regular unemployment back pay. Then 2 days later received the other 1/2 back pay from regular unemployment. Have not received anything more from the Extra $600 , just that one payment that came with regular unemployment and only for 1 week. Yes I Certified all weeks back dates to April 4th. Does any know how long until the extra $600 Back pay is paid out? I know unemployment offices are swamped and I’ve tried to be patient but unfortunately the bill collectors are NOT so patient!!! Just wondering if anyone knows about how long until that $600 back pay comes after you receive regular unemployment back pay.

    • Michiganander here, also and wondering the same thing? When did you file? I filed mid-July and I haven’t received ANY of the back-pay, backdating to April. Not even the regular State Unemployment payment. I don”t suspect we’ll ever see the $600 back-pay, but if not, they need to extend out benefit weeks as I ate up months of eligibility on the claiming the back payments. This is ridiculous!

      Reply
    • Backpay boost usually comes about 3 days later after the weekly benefit payback does. Your state just probably doesn’t have enough funds to give you the $600 boost back pay that they owe you at the moment so unfortunately you may have to wait ):

      Reply
      • Is there any way to check this? (if our state is out of money and waiting to pay us) Or check where we are at in the retro active backpay waiting line at least? I filed my backpay form in August and still haven’t received anything from it aside from regular unemployment payments and the short-lived $300/week for September which I believe they are referring to as LWA. I’m grateful to receive something, but my credit cards are maxed out and I really need the help…the backpay would make a huge difference in my quality of life right now.

    • It depends on your state and if in your application you put the last day of work as 03/08. If so and you are eligible (you may need to certify for past weeks depending on which state you are in) you will get paid the retroactive in one lump-sum. Normally 1 to 2 weeks after your first UI payment.

I became unemployed since April 1st and I was having so many issues trying to create my EDD account , and ended up applying for UI until the last week of June :( I’m not so sure if i got my UI and $600/week paid retroactively, going all the way to April. Do you have any insight on this? i also just sent EDD a message through my UI account regarding all this, hopefully I hear from them soon. Have you tried contacting them via your personal UI page?

        • If you sent an email. Unfortunately you will probably not get a response. I’ve sent 2. Nothing. Ive also sent 2 letters. Nothing. You might try calling this number. 833-978-2511. Someone is suppose to answer.

    • You need to have your effective date changed to when you originally lost your job due to the pandemic. You have to call and speak with someone, as challenging as that may be.

So my payment schedule since day one for has been I claim my weeks and the following day I receive my payment for my claimed weeks and then the 2nd day I recieve my federal pandemic payment. So I claimed 8 of the 15 backpay weeks on 8/27. Than on 8/28 I received 8 of the 15 claimed weeks and as well as claimed the last 7 backpay weeks. On 8/29 I received the remaining 7 backpay weeks I was owed AS WELL AS 8 of the 15 $600 federal pandemic payments. So what my question is, do u think the last 7 $600 federal pandemic payments will be deposited tomorrow or no bc tomorrow (8/30) is a Saturday and I will have to wait until Monday. Bc they don’t do deposits on the weekends do they??

    • That happened to me as I was on unemployment 8 years ago. Have you been on before? They told me (I waited to cancel back in 2012 when I got my 1st paycheck at new job) that they overpaid me 3 unemployment checks in 2012 (Although I had not gotten paid at new job yet) and said they were holding my 1st 3 checks, but I still got the 600. But it took them 3 weeks to send me the letter, so I kept calling and no one would give me an answer. So maybe you were on UI before? And you might owe them 1-2 weeks? That’s what mine said, PAID, but I didnt get the $ until they gave me that stupid letter saying “I Owed them $$” which was crazy. FYI

So if you are eligible and have certified for all weeks (including ones you are claiming back pay for) you should be made whole at some point.

        • Guys you have to call and they’ll manually put your weeks in but you will have to file them once it reflects on your account to get the back pay. I’m currently owed back pay for 9 weeks and I recently called Aug 5 and they told me give it 10 business day’s to reflect on my account. If it doesn’t show, to call back. I’m gonna give them until Monday the 24th because that will be the 3rd week even though I’m supposed to call back on the 19th. I know it’s frustrating but it’ll come guys, plus I heard we’re supposed to start getting a 300 boost next week if our states accept it.

        • In California it’s impossible to call. That’s why I’m emailing. And about to send my second letter.
Also here, Governor said state can’t pay the $100 for each person. So I don’t know how that will go.

        • Got you.
In California, when you call. It’s basically call back later. It’s horrible.
Here the weeks for may that I was suppose to certify. The page was taken down.
Lots of people had the same problem.
          I’ve emailed. Written letters.
