Virginia (VA) VEC Unemployment 2022-2023 benefits – Latest News and Updates After Pandemic Benefit Programs Expire

The Virginia Employment Commission (VEC) administers the unemployment compensation program for the Commonwealth. This includes the now expired pandemic enhanced unemployment benefits, for which all current and retroactive payments have now been issued, other than those under appeal or litigation.

Fortunately, the lessons learned from and system upgrades as a result of the pandemic mean the VEC now has better systems and process to take, pay and monitor unemployment benefits. See the sections below for current and past unemployment programs in the states, including some FAQs and following comments forum.

How Much Unemployment Can I Get Paid In Virginia?

With the expiry the pandemic unemployment programs, only traditional/regular state unemployment is available for full or partial unemployment claims. The table below provides key details on the latest unemployment benefits and qualifying wage requirements.

You will need to submit a claim or certify your application via the state’s unemployment website (see section below on filing a claim) to get your actual weekly benefit amount.

Note that to qualify for unemployment, your job or hours worked loss will generally need to be involuntary. I.e. through no fault of your own or via directly quitting. Your job and wages must also have been paid/covered by an employer or source that deducted unemployment insurance taxes per state law (see your paycheck).

Further if you are being paid severance via a layoff or able to use sick leave or paid vacation, you cannot claim unemployment.

You will also need to certify for benefits at weekly intervals, demonstrate ongoing work availability and evidence of job search requirements to keep getting weekly unemployment benefits.

Weekly Unemployment Available with Dependents (Min – Max)$60 – $378
Benefit Duration12 to 26 weeks, in addition to first week waiting period where no benefits are paid
Minimum Qualifying Income over Base PeriodEarned greater than $3,000 in two quarters in the base period. To get maximum benefit amount, must have earned over $18,900 in same period
Part-Time Income or Workers – UI benefits impactIf weekly gross income is less than WBSA, that gross income less $50 will be deducted from your weekly benefit amount. If weekly earnings > WBA, no benefits will be paid.

Why is my weekly benefit payment lower than the maximum amount?

Your actual weekly benefit amount (WBA) is the amount of money your state agency has determined you and your dependents may receive for regular unemployment insurance after filing a claim. This can change weekly based on your certification or claim for benefits.

Your actual WBA is based on the amount that you earned over the states pre-defined base or alternate wage period, which are generally based on four out of the last five completed calendar quarters spanning 12 to 18 months.

The higher your earnings, the higher your approved WBA will be, up to the maximum amount allowed in the state. All earnings must be subject to UI tax (covered employment) to be eligible for factoring into your benefit determination.

Any part time or temporary earnings from employment or other activities during eligible weeks you are claiming and certifying for benefits, will potentially reduce the amount of benefits you may get.

Also note that that your state UI agency may deduct overpayments and court-ordered child support from your weekly payment. This will reduce your WBA.

What if I worked or lived in another state?

If you worked or lived in another state during the base year, you should file your unemployment benefits claim in the state you worked in and where your wages were reported. Not where you reside at the time of claim. You can file a claim in multiple states.

Your claim will be paid and governed by laws of that state in which you applied for. You will need to report this on your state and federal income taxes per form 1099-G issued by the state’s UI agency.

Claimants will also need to apply or reapply for UI benefits when they reach the end of their benefit year.

End of Federal Enhanced Benefits in Virginia (PUA, PEUC, $300 FPUC and $100 MEUC)

The VEC has confirmed that claimants on the PEUC, PUA, MEUC and FPUC programs will file/certify for benefits for the last time covering the week ending September 4, 2021. Since the beginning of these programs, the VEC has issued over $14 Billion in benefits.

Any active claims, with or without remaining balances, will expire after this date and any weeks after Sep 5th will NOT be paid. The only exception are retroactive payments for validated claims after a successful determination or appeal.

While there has been a lot of discussion around extending pandemic unemployment benefits, the Biden administration has confirmed (see video) that states will have to use already allocated stimulus funding to expand or extend traditional state unemployment programs. The VEC has not indicated that is planning to do so at this stage, but I will post updates if things change.

Some claimants may be eligible for State Extended Benefits (SEB), but after September 4th all claimants must have a regular UI claim to continue receiving benefits. Also see the VEC website for other support and benefit programs.

Work Search Requirements Causing Benefit Payment Issues

Over the last few months many claimants have reported that their UI benefits have stopped, particularly since the VEC reinstated work search requirements, which their antiquated systems have struggled to process (especially for PUA claims). This is despite eligible claimants applying for jobs and reporting this on their weekly claims. The Benefit Year End Date (BYE), discussed in earlier updates below, does not seem to be the cause of the issue in most cases.

Governor Northam had asked claimants to be patient, despite Virginia being ranked among the worst states in paying claims, but this is not of much help to the many jobless workers who rely on federal and state unemployment benefits to pay for essentials and make ends meet.

Coupled with ongoing fraudulent claims many claimants have been caught in a web of automated call systems and process bureaucracy as their claims go unpaid. Getting hold of a live VEC agent has also been a challenge with many reporting hours of hold times and/or getting an untrained/new agent who is not able to help them (see some VEC contact options)

While the VEC, in a recent court hearing, said it had made significant progress in resolving thousands of unpaid and retroactive claims, it is estimated over 50,000 claims are still pending for review. Because a lot of these claims have to be checked manually so it could unfortunately take several months for eligible claimants to get paid – which the VEC has to legally to so. I will post updates as I get them and check the comments forum below for more information.

Reminder for Work Search requirements (Required for claims to be paid)

You must register online to get paid or at a workforce services agency if you live outside Virginia. Beginning the week of May 30th, you must actively make at least two job contacts each week and report the details online or over the phone: For regular UI claimants, online at www.getgov2go.com or over the phone at 800-897-5630; For PUA claimants, you must call 866-832-2363 and follow the prompts to file your weekly claim

Is Virginia Ending ALL Pandemic Unemployment Benefits Early – Including $300 Supplementary Weekly Benefit

Following recent job reports and state wide labor shortages, many states have announced an end to participation in one or more federally funded pandemic unemployment programs in the coming weeks. This covers the termination of PUA, PEUC, $300 FPUC and $100 MEUC programs extended under the Biden ARPA stimulus bill discussed below.

The argument is that these generous unemployment benefits deter lower income workers (who make less than $15 p/hour) from returning to work. Opponents argue that the reason people are not going back to work is due to fears around getting COVID, child care and schooling constraints.

At this stage the VEC has not received any instructions from the Governor to end the unemployment programs early, but given the worker shortage in the state there will likely be a lot of pressure from businesses to end these programs earlier than planned, as was the case in neighboring Maryland. I’ll update as more information comes to hand.

Biden Stimulus Bill Extensions

Under President Biden’s $1.9 trillion federal coronavirus relief package, known as the American Rescue Plan (ARP), enhanced unemployment benefits have been extended until September 6th (week ending September 4th in Virginia). This includes further extensions to the PUA program, PEUC program, $300 weekly payment under the FPUC program and $100 Mixed Earners (MEUC) program.

There were also provisions in the Biden Stimulus package for Unemployment tax breaks on the first $10,200 of benefits received in 2020.

VA VEC Latest News and Status on PUA, PEUC and $300 Weekly Payment or Claim Issues and System Updates

The VEC has provided the following updates for claimants around the extended coverage period funded under the Biden ARP stimulus bill:

  • You do not need to reapply for the extended benefit weeks. The VEC will automatically enroll you in the appropriate program extension (PUA or PEUC).
  • However, if you are notified that your benefit year (BYE) has ended you must file a new traditional claim (UI) to establish a new benefit year.
  • You should continue to file your weekly claim for benefits as you normally would as long as you remain unemployed.
  • You will not need to contact the VEC in order for these program extensions to take effect. The VEC will mail you a Monetary determination that reflects the increase in eligibility.
  • The additional weekly payment of $300 under the FPUC program will be extended through September 4, 2021 as well.
  • The Mixed Earner Unemployment Compensation (MEUC) program which provides $100 extra per week to non PUA recipients who have had mixed income (W2 and 1099) will be available from April 26, 2021.

There are however some known issues many claimants are reporting per the comments forum below this article. This includes:

  • PUA payment delays due to additional documentation requirements per updated DOL guidelines or proof of ongoing job searches as part of reinstatement of the weekly work search requirement.
  • Its still hard to get through to someone at the VEC for those whose benefits have lapsed. Keep trying as in some instances you will need a VEC rep to manually progress your claim or to provide additional information to verify your claim.
  • Certifying over the app has caused some issues in which case calling to certify (1 866 832-2363) has provided a workaround.
  • Many are reporting scam emails to potential claimants asking for personal and private data. Do not share this online or to people you don’t know. Only go to the VEC site to load documents and provide required certifications. If an email address doesn’t end in vec.virginia.gov, it’s not a real VEC address!
  • While the PUA and PEUC extensions are now available till Sep 4th, many people are reporting a lapse in benefits, which is mainly due to the need to provide additional documentation (PUA claimants) or not filing a new claim after you have reached your benefit year end.
  • Some people who returned to work and stopped claiming benefits, but are now unemployed again are having a tough time reinstating claim due to manual checks the VEC has to do, which is taking more time than expected. Retroactive payments will be made for eligible weeks but this is a known issue.

I will post ongoing updates as they are released so stay tuned via the options below.

2021 Unemployment Program Extensions Under COVID Relief Bill

The $900 billion COVID-19 relief package was passed into law on Dec. 27, 2020, which among several other pandemic relief measures extends and provides additional federal funding for enhanced unemployment benefits. This includes the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) and a reinstatement, but halving of the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) Program which provides a $300 supplemental weekly unemployment payment.

These programs have been funded and extended for 11 weeks, covering the weeks of December 27th, 2020 to March 14th, 2021. PEUC and PUA programs have a phase out period where existing claimants with remaining weeks/balances can file for benefits until the week ending April 10th, 2021. The first week people would be eligible for these payments under the extended coverage period would be the week ending January 2nd, 2021. You can see a summary of the latest VA VEC payment dates in this video and in the commentary below. Also scroll to the end of the article where some helpful readers have provided comments on working through challenges with unemployment claims and getting through to the VEC and talking to a live agent.

2021 PEUC and PUA programs extension – Reinstatement and Reapplying for benefits

Get your biggest tax refund, guaranteed. Get started today.

(Feb 17th, 2021 update) The PUA program eleven-week extension is now showing up for most claimants in line with the VEC update below. As a result existing claimants can certify and should start getting payments, including retroactive payments, in early February. New PUA applications are also being accepted. For those who have yet to receive their payment it is like due to some issues with your claim that may need manual processing (e.g. flagged for fraud or additional wage evidence), which the VEC is working through and sending notices to impacted claimants.

The PEUC program 11-week updates have now been rolled out for those who exhausted their benefits and for new claimants. If you have exhausted the original 13 weeks of benefits under the PEUC program you can then be considered for an additional 11 weeks of extended benefits under the CAA COVID relief bill. After several weeks of delay the VEC finally announced the rollout of the extended PEUC weeks (PEUC 2.0) in two different stages based on claimant group as follows:

Group I – PEUC claimants who have exhausted their initial 13-week benefit and have claimed weeks through 12/26/20 will have the additional 11 weeks automatically added to their claim and should not file a new claim. They should continue filing weekly claims. Payment for weeks claimed beginning with the week ending 01/02/21 will be automatically released from 02/09/21 and customers should receive money (including retroactive payments as well hopefully) as early as Thursday 2/11/21.

Group II – PEUC claimants who are not able to file a weekly claim must file a new PEUC 2021 claim. The application is not available via going to getgov2go.com. New claimants can create an account online or by calling 1-866-832-2363. Those who file a new claim can start claiming weeks for payment once their application has been processed, usually in 1-2 business days. The extra $300 FPUC weekly payment will be also be paid for the 11-weeks of extra PEUC.

(PEUC claimants with remaining original balances) If you did not exhaust your 13 weeks of PEUC prior to December 27th, 2020 you will be allowed to claim additional weeks. VEC has updated their UI benefit systems to allow for these changes. Individuals in this category should now be able to claim the remaining weeks beginning with the benefit week ending January 2nd, 2020. Payments, including retroactive payments, will be made shortly after that.

(PUA claimants with remaining balances) If you did not exhaust your 39 weeks of PUA you can now claim the additional weeks.

Getting the $300 Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) in Virginia

The program will add an additional $300 each week that you receive benefits under the following programs: regular Unemployment Insurance (UI), State Extended Benefits (EB), Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) and Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC). This additional benefit will be added to and retroactive to the week ending January 2, 2021. FPUC will be payable as long as you are eligible through benefit week ending March 14, 2021. This is NOW available to all people who can claim benefits, which are subject to the PUA and PEUC dates noted above.

Final guidelines on these programs and final eligibility (including additional document verification procedures to combat Fraud) have been issued by the Department of Labor and the VEC is rolling out these changes (see latest VEC update)

Claimants with existing or expired claim balances should be aware of the following general guidelines:

  • PUA and PEUC, FPUC will be automatically added to the claimants’ benefits if they are eligible for the weeks outlined in the new legislation.
  • Claimants with weeks remaining in UI should continue to file weekly claims
  • Claimants who will have additional weeks in UI and PUA or PEUC due to state provisions (where applicable) should watch their state agency UI portal or website for updates that will allow additional weeks to be filed (see potential scenarios where you need to take action to get benefits under the new extension)
  • Claimants will be retroactively caught up on payments for all weeks they are eligible.

I will post additional updates as they are released by the VEC in coming days

Backlog of UI payments continue to be processed

After being threatened with a lawsuit, the VEC decided to pay unemployment benefits (from 12/10) to thousands of Virginians whose claims had previously been on hold because they were “awaiting a staff review.” State officials decided to go ahead and proactively pay the applicants while their claims make their way through the determination process.

But if the determination process finds the recipients were not due the money, they will have to pay it back, possibly along with interest and fees. So ensure your application is valid and you are eligible for program benefits.

Lost Wages Assistance (LWA) in Virginia – Payments now processing and being paid

The VEC has processed and made all weekly payments under the Lost Wages Assistance program (LWA). That started processing payments around October 16th and payments started hitting people’s bank accounts or debit cards from October 19th.

Amounts to qualified applicants were paid retroactively to August 1 for 6 weeks (up to $1800 in total if you qualified for all 6 weeks). Several readers have acknowledged the lack of information and delayed payment relative to other states as you can see in the comments below. The original payment date was Sep 30, but got changed several times by the VEC due to ongoing system programming issues. This is much later than other states. I will continue to post updates if new information comes to hand. See further details in the section below including a link to the VA LWA page.

Update from Bill on VEC issues – “So thanks to the assistance of all those on this site I was able to call the VEC [on October 13th] and actually speak to someone regarding the $300. If you are on UI, PEUC, or anything but PUA you will have to call or self certify for LWA to receive the extra $300 retro pay. Also I was told that the payments will start being processed on the 15th of October and the money will hit accounts Thursday the 15th, Friday the 16th or Monday the 19th just depending on your institution or payment method. October 15th is the processing date. So I was told not to panic if the money is not in on the 15th. I hope this helps y’all Virginians.”

COVID 19 Enhanced (CARES Act) Benefits in Virginia

Under the CARES act, there are three types of federal unemployment assistance available:

• Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA): expands eligibility for traditionally ineligible individuals for unemployment benefits, including independent contractors and self-employed individuals.  Recipients may receive up to 39 weeks of benefit payments under this program.

• Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC): adds $600 per week and the regular benefits that recipients of Unemployment Insurance are entitled to receive; the benefit is retroactive to the week beginning March 29, 2020, and the program expired on July 31, 2020.

• Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC): provides an additional 13 weeks of Unemployment benefits to regular unemployment insurance recipients.

If you have exhausted benefits paid through the regular unemployment and PEUC program, you may be entitled to receive up to 50% of the total amount received on your regular unemployment benefits through the Extended Benefit (EB) program. This program covers an additional 6 to 13 weeks of unemployment benefits, depending upon the number of weeks you were eligible for benefits on your original unemployment insurance claim.

VA Lost Wages Assistance (LWA) Payment Details and Schedule

In addition to the above enhanced benefits, you may be eligible for Lost Wage Assistance (LWA) if you are out of work due to COVID-19. If your weekly benefit payment is at least $100, and you were eligible for unemployment benefits, you may receive an additional $300 in assistance retroactive through weeks ending August 1, 2020 to September 5th, 2020. You do not need to file a separate request/application for LWA; however, you may need to self-certify to confirm that you are unemployed or partially unemployed because of COVID-19.

Applicants only need to self-certify that they are unemployed/partially unemployed due to disruptions caused by COVID-19. If they don’t self-certify by 10/15/20 they may not be eligible to receive any of the $300 due to FEMA funding limitations. See more details on the VA LWA page.

Because of VEC programming/IT issues, the LWA payment will be made after October 15th, well after the funding approval from FEMA (Sep 12th). So most likely the payment to VA residents eligible for this payment will be for the full amount they are eligible for (up to $1800) during the covered period.

Initial Claims: If this is the first time that you are filing an unemployment claim under any of the federal or state programs available, you must first file an initial unemployment insurance claim to determine your eligibility and which programs may apply to you.

If you are eligible for regular unemployment benefits, you will receive a Monetary Determination Letter and PIN, typically within 7 to 10 business days of filing your initial claim. Your Monetary Determination letter lets you know what financial benefits you may possibly be eligible for; however, this may change based on the weekly claims you submit (addressed under Existing Claimants below).

If you receive a Monetary Determination letter stating that you are ineligible for regular unemployment benefits, you will then be directed via a phone call or text message to apply for PUA here.

Existing Claimants:  Claimants receiving unemployment benefits due to the coronavirus pandemic must continue to certify every week to receive unemployment benefits under any state or federal program. This includes the additional FPUC $600/week benefit and the PUA program.

The extra $600/week compensation is retroactive to the week beginning on March 29 and ends on July 31. FPUC payments are automatically added to the weekly benefit payment.

Upon exhausting regular unemployment benefits, you must file a separate application to receive PEUC benefits.

Claimants that have exhausted both regular unemployment and PEUC benefits may be eligible for an additional 6 to 13 weeks of unemployment benefits under the Extended Benefits program. A separate application is required.

Filing an Initial Claim (Post-Pandemic)

You must file your initial unemployment claim through the VEC Virginia Workforce Development online or via their call center. You will need the following information to file your first claim.

  • Social Security Number
  • Personal mailing address and contact information
  • Employment history for the past 18 months, including:
    • Employers’ business names
    • The physical address for each employer
    • Telephone number
    • First and the last date that you worked for each employer
    • The reason you are no longer employed
  • Alien Registration number and the date your work authorization expires if you are not a US citizen
  • The name and local number of the union hall (if you obtain work through a union)

To be eligible for Unemployment Insurance benefits in Virginia, you must meet the following eligibility requirements during the pandemic:

  • Unemployed or had a reduction in hours due to no fault of your own
  • Earned enough wages to be eligible for unemployment benefits

Filing Weekly Claims

You must file a weekly claim to prove that you are still eligible and qualify for unemployment benefits.  Your weekly claim cannot be filed until the end of the workweek, which is Saturday at midnight. You have up to 28 days after the end of each week that you are unemployed to file this weekly claim. Weekly claims can be filed online or over the phone.

If you don’t file your weekly claim within the required time, you will not be paid unemployment benefits for this week. You must call the VEC for assistance.

Existing claimants that are eligible for regular unemployment log in here to file their weekly claims.

To find out your claim’s status, call the Voice Response System at 800-897-5630, and choose “Claims and Benefits.”

If there is a problem with your claim that must be resolved before benefits can be paid or you have appealed a denial in benefits, you must still file a weekly claim online or over the phone. If it is determined that you are eligible or if you win your appeal, you will be paid these benefits retroactively. However, if you win the appeal but have not claimed benefits, you will not be paid for these weeks.

I filed my unemployment claim several weeks ago. Will I receive back pay once my claim is approved?

Over the past few months, the VEC has improved its telephone response and claim processing time. However, the large volume of unemployment claims will result in continued delays. If you are eligible to receive benefits but have not heard anything back yet, you will receive retroactive benefit payments up to the date that you were determined eligible as long as you filed your claims each week.

This also applies to the FPUC $600 per week additional benefit, which expired on July 31. If you have filed an unemployment claim before that date and are still awaiting a response regarding your eligibility for unemployment, you will receive retroactive payments for the back weeks of FPUC. This is the case even if the decision is not made until after the July 31 expiration date.

If you are not eligible for regular unemployment, you may collect benefits under the PUA program.  To determine eligibility, you must file a new unemployment insurance claim if you have not already done so. Once your eligibility is determined, you may complete a separate PUA application. You should continue to file weekly certifications during this process. If you are eligible for PUA benefits for weeks that have already passed, you may recover back pay if you submitted weekly certifications.

Can I still collect unemployment benefits if my hours have been reduced?

Individuals who work reduced hours may still be eligible to collect partial unemployment benefits if your gross earnings are less than the weekly benefit amount. You must continue to file your weekly certification and report any of your wages in the week they were earned, not received. Wages earned may reduce your unemployment benefit.

    • Please stop giving out wrong information. If you choose to file by phone, thats your choice. I’ve never had any issues filing on GOV2GO and I’ve never filed by phone.

      • Hello Teressa. I tried the phone and it says that I have no more benefits but I know for sure I have 4 more weeks. Is it going to hurt if I file the PEUC extension(2021) in GOV2GO because I have one and it is not marked as “Enrolled”?

        • Hi Terry. When I attempted to file for PEUC2021 Saturday, the message I received was that I was automatically filed by the system for my SSN. I called and checked my balance after that and it was enough $ for the 11 weeks. I received my last payment Tuesday for my original 13 weeks. When I tried to do it earlier in the week it wouldn’t let me. I don’t believe it will hurt if you file for the PEUC2021. It will let you know if you can’t.

    • Hello Teressa. I tried the phone and it says that I have no more benefit. I know that I have few more weeks left on my extended 11 week PEUC. Would it hurt if I file the PEUC extension for 2021 in GOV2GO? I have one that is not marked “Enrolled” or should I go straight making appeal?

  1. Hello. My weekly filing in my Event is not visible anymore. Anyone having this issue? Are VEC staff doing some repair again?

    • I am in PEUC with the 11 week extension and still have balance good until March 20. I was able to file last week. I guess my next option is file on phone.

        • Yes. I wonder what will happen in filing by phone. I will try later. VEC people please dont play with us. Dont just cut us off. At least send us notice through email. Should we report this issue to our representatives?

      • All you need to do is unenroll from the UI weekly and reenroll. I just had to do that this morning so that I could file for my 11 additional weeks this morning. This is the same thing I did last time it disappeared and I had no issues at all. I believe you are the same one I told this to last time. Of course if you feel more comfortable you can continue to file by phone. I like getting my confirmation via GOV2GO and have never had issues.

        • Yes that was me. I think VEC stopped my benefit intentionally. I am not gonna bother reapplying. I am just going to appeal or call them first. They have to fix this if they made the mistake or I will just wait for the next Biden Care Act extension. So, you are just about to start your first 11 week extension?
I believe VEC are intentionally cutting off benefits early for some, maybe random.

        • That’s crazy to just cut you off smh. It’s always something. Yes, Tuesday will be my 1st payment for the 11 weeks.

  2. Hi every, i just wanted to let everyone in here( specially people who are desperate logging in here to look what’s going on with the current situation with our current PUA claims.) anyways long story short, I have received $458 yesterday which is on Tuesday and the rest of the 3k today on Wednesday. I know some of you wanted to know some updates I hope this helps.
Thank you and thank you PUA

      • You definitely need to get in touch with someone at the VEC to get your claim moved forward as sounds like it is held up for security/fraud or other manual processing items.

  3. Did anyone with the outstanding issue response to their claim ever get it straightened out? Mine says that. I called my local office and they said I’ve exhausted my benefits, but the VRS says I have a balance…but i havent gotten paid anything yet

    • I got paid like 2 weeks ago for the 8weeks they owed me and have received the weekly since. I had to contact them because I worked for a temp agency in January 2020 and the “outstanding issue” for me was the VEC wanted to know when I started and when I stopped working for that company. I called at 815am and finally one day got through and left my callback number. 4hours later they called me back. We discussed the above information and they said that “that was all they needed and they will release the funds”. 2days later it appeared in my account.

I still have not received payment? Can someone help? I can’t get ahold of anyone? Even if they are requesting additional documents, why would my payment not get released and allow me 90 days to submit the paperwork they need through the documents addition on gov2go?

Today is March , 2021 and still no communication as to an update on my PUA pending status. I have tried for months to call all the numbers for customer support and till this day no one to speak to just an answering machine says non details available or zero. Worse experience ever with the department of unemployment. They do not even respond to emails. Terrible!

      • They have a website you can set an appointment for a phone call . The website will
Often show “no appointments “ keep trying middle of the night or early am like 5 . Appointments are available . When it shows no appointments that means the system is over loaded . You will have to go to your local employment commission to see the website for your area. It’s should be posted on the locked door . I took a picture of it . Good luck .

My recommendation is to find out who your Virginia (local) State Senator is for the distict in which you live. Also find out who your Virginia (local)State Delegate is. Call them and e-mail them EVERY DAY and ask them to contact VEC customer service on your behalf. Also, call and e-mail the Governors office EVERY DAY and demand to know what steps are being taken to resolve the delays with PEUC and PUA compensation and improve Customer Service at VEC. Also contact the Legal Aid Justice Center in Richmond( local) and ask for Legal Advice.

    • Changes with respect to PUA application will include:
PUA claimants to provide proof of employment or self-employment
*** Update: Individuals are now required to provide proof of employment if they are paid weeks after 12/27/20. Please check yourGov2Go account for messaging and information on accessing PUA 2021 Document Upload. Failure to provide this information will result in an overpayment for all weeks paid beginning with 01/02/21 and after.
State agencies to implement procedures to verify and validate the identity of PUA claimants to the extent reasonable

*** We are working to implement these changes to our current PUA benefits system and will have more information to share soon.

The VEC previously notified you that there was a known issue related to PUA claimants not receiving payment for their additional 11 weeks of PUA effective with the week ending 01/02/21. This issue has been resolved and payment should be issued this week.

    • I’ve been helping my dad file, we didn’t realize it but we had been filing both PUA and regular VEC but were of course only getting paid for one before they transitioned everything to one site. He hasn’t been paid since Dec. We keep calling, they said his pin is wrong, we got through to someone and they said no the pin is right. we called the governors office – they said someone will help. Nothing. I’m going in and having to reapply for unemployment through the gov2go site now – I cannot understand how a world leading country cannot get its stuff together and help its constituents.

Its best to try right at 8:15 or you won’t be able to reach anyone. That’s what I did after trying for weeks to reach someone through calling the 1-866 #. I was finally able to get through after using the chat link. Hope this helps and your able to get assistance. Best wishes, Jeremy

I didn’t even know I had gotten that money til my tax form came in the mail. I had to order a new card bc I never got it. So I do not even have my PIN but I can not get through to talk to anyone. I can’t get a status bc I do not have that pin. I can’t get through in the phone and I am very limited bc of this pin. Now I got my new card and had $632. Which was 4 payments of $158. But it stopped on 12/16. I am so lost and confused. I have been out of work since the start and just learn of pua in nov so I even need to address my back pay and all of it. Anyone please help me. And I can never find my comments on here. Please help me!!!! I have four kids and like everyone lossing everything.

    • This has been happening to me too. I stopped receiving benefits (after exhausting my initial 39 weeks ending in mid December). Since then the system prompts me to file a weekly claim (today makes 8 weeks claimed) that still have not been paid out. Ive tried calling the 866 number roughly 10 times a day since February 10th. Ive never reached a live person, only a recording telling me that all agents are busy with other people and to call back later, then the system hangs up on you. It’s infuriating to have no idea what to expect and to not have an option to just hold on the phone and wait your turn. It also doesn’t tell you how many callers are ahead of you or any “best time” to call.

It may take a week or 2 but you’ve waited this long…hope you have luck! It took me 2 weeks to get through and it only took 5 minutes to correct the problem. I did get a 1 lump sum payment for what I was owed which was nice! Best wishes!

      Important PUA Information
      Sent: February 15, 2021 9:45 AM
The VEC is aware of an issue affecting the PUA program. Some individuals are able to file their weekly claims but the payment of those weeks are not being issued. The VEC is working to correct this issue as soon as possible and will be able to provide an update in the next few days.
I, however, did not receive any messages on my site so I’m not sure if the message was directly targeted towards the individual that would be affected or what. (This logic seems highly unlikely though. I would think that message would have been sent to everyone using the Go2Gov app who gets PUA.) But like I said, she had a message from the VEC and I didn’t so who knows what the VEC is doing. They themselves are probably as clueless or more so than we are.
The only info I could find was on the VEC website that mentioned an update to be posted on the 17th around 2pm.

Mine has been escalated to the right department for them to remove the hold and release the funds. If your PUA ran out in December and you filed on Jan 2 the system automatically put holds on everyone’s claims. You have to call early in the morning at like 8:14 and the system should ask you do you want a call back and a live rep from customer service will call you back some time during the same day and they will review your claim and tell you what’s wrong. Good luck and remember call the number and go through the prompts before 8:15 am

        • I reapplied January 13,‍♀️thinking that was the right thing to do. When I called they said they just needed updated information on my employer and It would take several weeks to fix this!! I’m so confused.

        • I don’t know when you called but from my understanding, anyone who filed on or after Jan 2, the system wasn’t updated and therefore it put those claims on hold. The problem arouse because the last administration let everyone’s unemployment expire on or before the 26 of December and they had to update the systems all over again. Try calling again early and ask them can they expedite your claim to the appropriate department and also ask them to take the hold or issue off your claim so your funds can be released.

        • I don’t know. All I know is if you put your info in the 2021 peuc application after your social and personal info it stops you and says that you don’t need to file and that they have all your stuff. Then says continue filing your weeks. If it doesn’t say that then your pro group 2 or didn’t qualify. My friend has been filing his weeks but he didn’t qualify for group one because his benefits ran out before December 26

        • This goes out to anyone who has not been able to talk to a real person at the vec my good friend knows someone that’s up in the ranks at vec in Richmond and if it’s telling you that you have a outstanding issue with pua that they’re not telling people that the problem is in there system and she’s been told that it would be taken care of tonight. And everyone should start getting money this week. If not I’m supposed to call her back Thursday and she will update me then. If so I will post again. 3/1/2021. Fingers crossed.

        • Dee!!!!! Hopefully tomorrow evening we will know something. Maybe the system issue will update and we’ll be blessed. How many weeks do you have now? 6??

        • Hopefully… I will feel better just to know that everyone’s says what mine says… It would then seem like nothing is wrong

        • I thought I had it figured out but maybe I don’t. Dec 26th was the last week I had. Now I have filed every week since. Every Sunday. Mine says 00000 bit says details are not available on my claim for benefits. It has said that for weeks

        • Mine said the same for weeks and started on December 26th. But it recently let me claim and have me my balance. But it still says I have a outstanding issue.

        • All we have is hope. It’s not like you can ever reach someone on either 800 number. You can call at 8:13am and constantly every hour and no one will ever answer the phones. You can email and nothing.

      • Mine said 000000 also, I checked this morning and my check processed for the 6 weeks I filed. Im on the 11 week peuc extension

        • You should start calling different numbers outside VEC. Higher department from VEC. Tell them you can’t reach anyone in VEC. You can even try and appeal too.

        • did you do everything right about filing our about your previous employment? did you get in trouble or something about claiming? it has been a while. maybe vec intentionally stopped your benefit. just start and file the new 11 week extension. that is what i would do. if you dont get the extended week then vec stopped your benefit.

        • Dee. It says “outstanding issue..” I havent tried restarting yet for the extended 11 weeks and not sure how. I am not there yet. i missed benefit last week and if i missed one again this week then i will take action. i dont know what action to take yet though. If some of you were on PEUC before and cant get PEUC again then try PUA.

        • The site says no payments will be released until today and won’t be paid out until Thursday

  16. So today I tried to file my weekly Pua and today is February 6th and of course the VEC website has done something again to their phone system where they just redirect you to gov2go and they don’t even tell you that but that’s where they are directing you of course. the VEC website has done something again to their phone system where they tell you that they’re redirecting you to their website and they don’t give you a website and that’s all they do and then they cut you off you can even talk to anybody. I can’t go to gov2 go because when I applied with them in the beginning of last year they did something and I have never been able to access my information and so I had to call the VEC and get a customer service agent to fill out a Pua forum for me. Of course when that happened the woman could not even find where I had filed for unemployment or Pua even with my confirmation number through gov2go. The woman couldn’t even find my application with my confirmation number through gov2go or any of my monetary determinations that I received through the VEC. To top it off I qualified for Pua all the way through December of 2021 they insisted when I called that I had to give my gross amount even though I am self-employed. And because I didn’t give them my net amount as I was supposed to even though they insisted I had to I didn’t get anything until July and that was months after I applied. Now I am still supposed to be receiving Pua I received Pua the week before last but of course now there’s no way to contact anybody and I can’t use the gov2go website because it still has some kind of glitch in it that I cannot access and tells me that I don’t qualify for anything and it has been doing that since I registered with them back in June of last year. I haven’t even exhausted my 36 or 39 weeks of Pua so I don’t understand how I’m supposed to get that if I can’t call the number that they’ve already screwed up again and made it completely difficult for people to access.

I was able to file for 5 weeks of PUA last week on Friday on gov2go and over the phone. The only thing is I did not receive a payment on Tuesday like most other PUA claimants. Is something wrong? I have other family members that received payment on Tuesday that had exhausted the original 39 weeks as well? I spoke to someone through the vec and they tried to tell me that they are still working on programming for PUA, which blew my mind since it says programming implemented and I am able to claim now on gov2go. Someone please shed some light. Thanks

        • Hey Nick! I’m PEUC (not exhausted) but my sis is PUA and she finally was able to file and receive her deposit early this week. You might want to call the number and check to see if you have a balance. As of right now, the only folks who are still up in the air are the PEUC people that exhausted prior to 12/26.

  21. Hello Teressa Short. I dont see anything about file weekly in GOV2GO. On the very top of MY EVENTS in GOV2GO, I see “Start: File your PEUC application”. Below that are 2 Virtual job fair. MY Start File PEUC is marked as complete. Do I mark it as incomplete again and file, is that what you mean reenroll?

    Reply
    • No, dont select the PEUC one. That might mess something up. Click on Discovery. That will show everything. Find the one that says “File VA Weekly Request for Payment” Unenroll then reenroll. It should then pop up with the date of 1/30/21 on your dashboard.

      • Lol…looks scary. Did you get your deposit yet? People from VEC can read our conversation. They should at least respond and clear things up. Do you think that they are ignoring us and waiting for us to make mistakes.

        • LOL I’m in a few Facebook groups and I’ve seen others unenroll/reenroll like I did. My deposit doesn’t usually hit to the afternoon so I should know by 2/3pm or so. If VEC can see I wish they would chime in. Communication from them SUCKS and being that most of the folks can’t even get through on the phone, it would be nice for there to be another avenue where we could get questions answered. We are pretty much on our own and thats a shame. I’ll let you know when/if that deposit hits today though.

        • I did it both phone and online, Teresa. Let’s see what happens next. My concern now is the difference between phone and online. Because on phone it wont ask you about childcare issue or whether you are sick from COVID and other issues from losing your job. I always use online ever since.

        • I’ve never filed on the phone before. I also don’t get those questions about COVID or childcare online when filing. Interesting.

        • *crossing fingers* LOL I’ve never filed by phone. I also don’t get any questions regarding COVID or childcare when I file online. Interesting.

        • I am waiting on deposit but not sure if it will go through since my balance says 0 after last week’s payment. They have yet to add the additional weeks to their system. I guess it is just a wait and see since VEC operator’s were unreachable :(

        • Same here I’ve had 0 balance since after Dec 26th. Can’t get threw sigh I thought that this week would’ve been a payment week.

        • Just found out the people who are Pua get their deposits this week. Unfortunately Peuc date has changed and we have to wait again. Very Frustrating no dates given of when.

        • This is crazy still no PUEC this week or two? All of us have had zero deposits since dec 23 and cont claiming only to be put off even more , this is reeking havoc on my past due bills to where i am in severe danger losing my car and many more on the verge of eviction and starving. I knew counting on it to be this week was gonna be another let down. What is going on with this program, i will still cont to call in my weeks on sundays but this is severely hurting me , positive hopes for all us still waiting on PEUC wtf

        • Yes, it is very frustrating Scott. Hang in there. I had a few weeks into the new year to claim but now my balance is 0 even though they should be extending it. They say mid February but I am thinking it may be more like early or mid-March till they finish their updates. President’s Day on 2/15/21 will of course cause them to be delayed a whole week instead of just 1 day.

        • What about regular UI UI benefits? I’ve been calling for 5 weeks and nothing.
The VMS is telling me theres an issue with my claim. Will I get paid too, when they start issuing $?

        • Mines says the same thing and a balance of $0 did your unemployment run out before December 26th?

        • Same here. Issue with my claim as well. I called today and was told the money was released yesterday and will start posting to people’s accounts tomorrow. I have no idea what my claim issue is, other than them being behind. I received email saying my money won’t be released until claim is reviewed for good cause by hearing officer and this review will take a significant amount of time because they are viewed in the order they are received

        • Is everyone getting the extra 300 with thier unemployment or pua claims right now? Or was that just for a short period of time like before when they did it?

      • Question I supposedly am getting pua I got five weeks paid then it stoped . My gov2go dashboard only shows price application can I unenroll from pua then enroll?

        Reply
      • Did that work for you…I am scared to try it and mess something up..I got my retro pay from December but I didn’t receive my regular $628 this week. I usually get it on Wednesday. It says I was paid but didn’t get anything in my bank account.

  22. Hello Andy. In the news, it says that existing PEUC claimant(who did not exhaust previous PEUC) should continue filing for benefit; but in GOV2GO, there is no continued weekly claim options but only virtual job fair option. Should I reenroll again? We didnt receive proper instruction about what to do. Some of us are just guessing. Please let me know as soon as you get the chance. Thank you.

    Reply
    • No. Wait for VEC to make their system updates for PEUC (hopefully a week or two more) and then follow the instructions. It may require you to re-file if in a new benefit year, but only do so if that is the official instruction you get.

      Reply
    • It says for people who did exhaust their benefits. There’s two different categories. If you exhausted your benefits but have been able to still call and file every week, even if you don’t get any payment, your in the first category and will get paid this week. The people who have tried to file claims after Dec 26 and it won’t let them file, then they need to redo the PEUC application they are posting for that on the 9th

      Reply
      • Now what about if you did not exhaust your benefits till after the New Year. My scenario is I successfully claimed the weeks 1/9, 1/16, 1/23 and then balance was zeroed out even though I qualify for the 11 week extension. Which category do I fall into? Wait on VEC to add the weeks or have to reapply for PEUC? Thanks in advance for any guidance.

        Reply
        • I would think your just gonna get your back pay. I mean it says if you’ve been claiming weeks you just keep claiming and you’ll get paid. Look on the VEC site. I’m going off off the update today. It’s on the news to.

        • It says if you qualify for the back pay without needing to do a new application you’ll know this week. If you call and check your payment status and your getting one after the date they said then you’re good. If not then VEC said they will put the application to file up on the 9th. So I’m guessing it’s different then the one on there now. VEC said it’ll only to 2 days to process the new application. My last week was the 26th of December. But it’s been letting me claim every week since. I guess if I don’t have a payment coming on the 9th I’ll refile

  23. Hello Teressa Short. Isn’t reenrolling putting you like you are starting from the beginning again and VEC might put you on 1 or 2 weeks wait again. Isnt this the part where we receive a letter stating the allowed weeks and benefit we have? Kevin confirmed my question and he said it should be back soon. Kevin works for VEC, right? If you can see this Kevin, should I reenroll or just wait?

    Reply
    • No it is not starting all over again. I didn’t pick the option to file for unemployment (which is for new claims) I chose file VA weekly request for payment. When I did that the week ending 1/30/21 popped up. On Sunday morning I filed as I normally do. Received my confirmation as I normally do and will get my deposit tomorrow as I usually do. Are you PEUC exhausted or not? I did not exhaust so there is no issue on my part. If there had been an issue with be reenrolling, when I went to file I would have received an error to call the 800 number or I may have received another error. Everything worked for me with no issues. If you exhausted, you have to wait. I don’t know if that other person works for VEC or not. I doubt it LOL!

  24. I filed for regular unemployment with Vec. Now its a issue on my claim. I filed back on Oct 5 2020 and have not yet received a penny. I cant even get mail out of the post office anymore because I couldn’t afford to pay the post office fee. Now if I was to get important mail sent to me I won’t even know it. 4 months is way too long without money. Electricity bill 800+ Car note 3months behind, insurance on car is due and on house, motorcycle note 3months behind also, Water bill 3 months behind, no health insurance, taxes on my home is due. I was terminated from my job while I was out on quarantine due to my symptoms of possible covid. The job was aware of my situation and was forwarded doctors orders and notes. The note told them the doctor was gon reevaluate me on the 1st. I was so sick that they did a televisit over the phone for about 1min because I was too sick to talk. My doctor said he wasn’t going to send me back to work yet and he’s going to send me another note. Oct 1st was a Thursday. I was too sick to talk I was afraid to go to sleep because I thought I wasn’t going to wake up. Friday and the weekend came and that Monday I felt a little better. My job contacted me on that Monday and told me I self terminated. I tried to explain and even told them I was reevaluated on Thursday and im not fit to return just yet and the note will be forwarded to yall today b4 5pm. I then was still told I self terminated and its nothing that can be done. So what do u guys think?

    • Why didnt you file for Family Medical Leave Act since the doctor wont let you return to work. Everything is tool late now. Even if you make a petition, you might not get it. The FMLA could have saved you.

      • I didn’t think I was gonna get that sick. It came in waves. And when it hit it hit hard. Too weak to do anything. I still believe I was wrongfully terminated because I had doctors notes and gave them doctors notes to informed them of my situation.

  26. I was able to file my weekly claim for PUA on January 16th and I received my back pay for the two weeks that I was unable to file. I then was able to file for the week ending on January 23rd but I did not receive payment for that week. I have tried calling the VEC hundreds of times since I didn’t receive my payment on Wednesday but I haven’t been able to speak to anyone. I don’t understand why this is happening. I have my rent due on the first and I am a single mother to an 18 month old daughter. This is so very stressful. I haven’t received any kind of communication from the VEC. I hope this issue is resolved soon.

    • Has anyone received their 1099 tax form yet? I’m told that the IRS isn’t processing any tax forms until after February 12th. I also read that with the possibility of a third stimulus check it’s important to go ahead and file your taxes as early as possible so that the IRS has the correct income from the 2020 taxes.

      • They have until 1/31 (today) to mail them out. You should have it by this week or maybe next week plus the IRS isn’t even accepting returns until 2/13 anyway.

        • anyone else get this message? This is what I get when I try to access my tax forms. More system issues. What’s new!

The system is not available for accessing right now due to maintenance. Please check back in a couple of hours. We apologize for any inconvenience.

        • Unfortunately I think most of us have encountered that at some point. All you can do is wait till they are back up but just to reassure you, I was able to get my 1099-G earlier today. So they are up there!

        • Teressa
You are the Bomb because I have been filing for pua and the system says error. I have a letter saying I was getting 158.00 but nothing. I have weeks 7 filled. I’m at a point of giving up on it and just try hard to find work. I’m about to loose everything at this point. Its so sad. To leave people like this is crazy. Thanks for helping everyone.

  27. In GOV2GO site, i just noticed that my continued weekly claim option ( under Events) is not there anymore. I have been filing every week. It was replace by virtual job fair. Does anyone seeing this or just me?

    • For people waiting on PEUC, we got the job fair info. People on PUA got the link to file weeks. PUA was implemented yesterday. PEUC will be soon hopefully. It got put off again. Hopefully this week

      Reply
        • Terry had you exhausted PEUC? The only folks that should still be waiting are PEUC that exhausted. If you didn’t exhaust you should still be able to file. I’m PEUC and didnt’ exhaust and like yours, my weekly file was replaced w/ the job fair as well. What I did was unenroll and then reenroll in the weekly filing. After I did that, my file weekly popped back up under my events. Try that and see if it works for you.

        • Brilliant Teressa! I kept wondering while in the beginning the weeks link would show up on Gov2go and then they stopped. I then just filed weekly using the VEC phone system but the balance says 0 even though I qualify for extension payment now since my balance was not exhausted until after 2021. I still filed by phone early today and then did your trick and also filed there. Just covering all bases in case Gov2go knows I have a balance but the VEC still has not completed their upgrade that was supposed to be on 1/29/21. Thanks!!

        • You are welcome! I was scared to unenroll at first but I was like let me just do it LOL!! If it didn’t work I was going to file on the phone but I filed on Gov2go this morning with no issues. :-)

  28. Hi has anyone with an active balance tried calling to see how much is left only for the system to say $0000 but my original date was to end 3 weeks into February of 2021. I’m so confused because I was filing normally and receiving payments along with the additional $300 for 2 weeks now and filed for the week ending 01/17/21 but haven’t received my payment yet for the original benefit and I have bills coming up in a few days now… furthermore to add to the confusion and stress me out when trying to view my statement both online or via phone it says my ssn and pin combo do not show any existing claims in their system… I’ve tried getting in touch with an agent for hours now and have gotten nothing! Can someone please provide some kind of information as to what’s going on and if there’s anything I can do or why this is happening because I shouldn’t have a balance of $0, my original UI date to end is 3 weeks into February, and I haven’t received my payments for the week ending on the 17th of January…

        • VEC is still saying 1/29 per the post update. Here is the official wording – “If you exhausted the original 13 weeks you will then be considered for an additional 11 weeks of PEUC benefits under this legislation. The first payable week in this scenario would be for the week ending January 2, 2021. Please be advised that we are working on programming our benefit systems to allow for these changes.
*** Update: The target date for implementation is 01/29/21. The FPUC additional benefit of $300 will also apply. “

        • Thanks Andy. The confusing thing for me is that I had a balance past the end of the year. I just had my last check from week ending 1/23/21 put into my bank. So I don’t know if I start at 11 weeks, 13 weeks or no weeks.

        • You get both. Remaining balance from existing CARES funding + the 11 extra weeks. The rub is you need to use all benefits by w/ending April 10th. Unless the program is extended by Biden (highly likely)

        • Thank you Andy. That clarifies it. I don’t relish continue being unemployed till April, but I will still “technically” have weeks past that time since my benefit year does not end till June 2021.

        • Has anyone received their 1099 tax forms? I was concerned because I haven’t received mine yet and it’s nearly February 1st. I heard that it’s important to file your taxes as early as possible this year so that you can receive your next stimulus and it’s based on your 2020 income.

        • Hello, does anyone know what I should apply for once I’ve exhausted my PEUC? Someone said I should now apply for PUA but when I look online it says I should apply for Extended Benefits. Sorry I’m new to this. I’m a single father with 2 young boys. My ex doesn’t pay for child support and I lost my job due to covid-19. I try to call the 1-866 customer service number and also the online chat everyday at 8:15 to no avail. I also try multiple times throughout the day. I appreciate any help I can get. I only have about 2 weeks of PEUC left before it’s exhausted. Hope everyone has a great week and thanks again.

        • Hi Jeremy, I have about 4 more weeks of PEUC. I would not apply to EB because we are STILL supposed to get the additional 11 weeks. (Applying to EB would have been the normal thing to do if the % of unemployment was above 5% I believe but don’t quote me on it) I’d probably wait and continue filing if you can. The PEUC folks that exhausted are still having to wait and I think once that is done we should have our additional 11 weeks added on. In the meantime keep trying to get through to talk with someone even though have of them don’t know what they are talking about because they have been known to tell folks the wrong things and if you call back and talk to someone else, they end up telling you something completely different.

        • Teressa,
Thank you so much for responding back to me quickly. I actually just got an email from VEC about the 11 week extension. Do you know if there’s anything we need to do on our part to receive those additional 11 weeks or is it automatic as long as we’re submitting our weekly claim? Its sad we have to come to websites like this for answers since no one at the 1-866 # is available. Nor can I reach anyone through the chat link or my local VEC. Thanks again for your help and time. Jeremy

        • You’re welcome!! I don’t believe we will have to do anything but I’m not 100% sure because I haven’t received that letter yet. Hopefully mine is on the way lol Just keep filing and we just have to wait for the next update. Hopefully that update will come sooner than later and yes I agree its a shame we have to figure this stuff out on our own but at least we do have a place where we can try and help each other. :-)

    • This exact same thing happened to me. It says i have exhausted my traditional UI. I just went onto the gov2go site and filed for peuc. I dont know if that was the right thing to do or not, sure cant get no one on the phone there but i got paid yp through the 9th and got 2 weeks FPUC….and then nothing. I hope this works.

The phone numbers automatically end the calls “due to high call volumes” and the Live Chat is useless saying the system is too busy to assist. I would LOVE to speak to someone at the VEC for help!!!! They just are not making themselves available to do so even though their instructing us to contact them for details on our accounts! That’s why this is sooooo frustrating!!!

Ok so not sure if it has run out but the balance when I call shows I have one more week left of payments although my benefit ending date is not till this summer. I am not sure if the system has just not been updated to add the additional weeks extension or if I should apply for EDD. And as far as I understand, new EDD claims will not be payed until they “update their system”? Ok, last question. Is EDD full unemployment payment or is it a percentage of what you were receiving before? Thanks to anyone who may be able to clarify the muddy waters for me.

  32. Hi, I was had NOT exhausted my PEUC prior to the 12/29/2020 date. On Friday, 1/8/2021 evening at 830PM, after a million attempts via calling and the app, I was finally able to file my weekly claim via the Gov2Gov app for the wk ending 1/2/2021. I called the VEC 800 status number Saturday morning and it stated my claim was processed on 1/8 for my “usual” amount + the $300 boost….gave me hope….Sunday morning, 1/10/2021 I was able to file my weekly claim for the wk ending 1/9/2021on the Gov2Gov app no problem. Monday at 1230pm my checking account posted the amount from the wk ending 1/2/2021 claim. But beginning Tuesday, 1/12/2021, I have not received any further $ and any time I’ve called the VEC 800 status # it tells me “details for your claim are unavailable at this time. Please call 866-blah blah blah to speak to a representative to assist you further” which has of course resulted in me calling daily since and every hour without zero contact with a human and many MANY MANY attempts with the online “live” chat that is ZERO help. When I have spoken with a person in the “file your weekly claim press one” option of the 866 option they can’t help and are as confused as I am. The VEC website updates are also of ZERO help and not informative at all. I was able to file my wkly claim for the wk ending 1/16/2021 on the GOV2GOV Sunday 1/17/2021 no problem but still no status update and no funds in my account. Again, I did NOT exhaust my PEUC benefits prior to 12/29/2020 but cannot seem to get any resolve or help or info besides “wait and see”. Very discouraging and VERY frustrating!

I was only able to file the week ending 1/2/21 on the gov2 site. It took much longer to receive payment and even though I kept checking no more links for filing 1/9 or 1/16. I have just resorted to filing using the automated VEC system and it seems to be more reliable. I do hope you get your payments sorted out as it really is very frustrating when most are following the correct steps but VEC and gov2go have issues.

For those who had exhausted balances prior to 12/27/20, they will have to wait until after 01/29/21 to file their weekly benefits claim and get the extended benefits and $300 FPUC payment.

        • The VEC can post all the dates that payments are “supposed” to be sent but it is NEVER done on the date they actually say. Sadly there is always some excuse or another (rainy day, too sunny just to make a joke). And now we have MLK coming up so that will give them weeks to say there was a holiday and it slowed things down. Pretty much I will believe payment is coming when its actually deposited and cleared into my bank account. Sorry to be negative but its frustrating how everyone is having different experiences on the same programs.

        • Andy, I’m in a special category, I think. I want to say it’s the purple category. I exhausted my regular UI benefits on 12/26. I did not used any of the original 13 additional weeks under CARES/PEUC. Does this put me in the category of having to wait until 1/29? I would have thought that since I did not use any of the original 13 additional weeks under CARES, I would still be considered an active claiment and benefits would continue in the case. Any information for those of us who’s regular UI benefits were exhausted on 12/26, would really be appreciated. Note that, I have been filing claims for all weeks since 12/26 on the gov2go.app, the app has been working for me, and I do have confirmation numbers for all of those weeks.

    • Same here…I am still waiting on my payments for weeks ending in 12/26, 1/02 and 1/09 I have PUA…I read that VEC is reprograming software today for PUA and hopefully money will come in either this week or next week.

        • How do you know if you exhausted your 39 weeks PUA? I was able to call and successfully claim weeks ending in 12/26, 1/02 and 1/09…eventhough I have not received payments yet. Therefore since I successfully claimed those weeks…that means I have not exhausted my claims…correct?

        • Correct. The date in question is 12/26 or 12/27. If you had a claim balance/weeks left after that then you are considered to be an active claimant- which you are since you were able to file continuing claims. You will get paid soon once VEC starts processing payments – and should include your back way for weeks certified.

        • The last payment I received was 12/ 8 I have filed weekly successfully until 1/2 which I eventually got that filed and successful on 1/9 so I guess what I’m asking is I’m consider an active account and get the $300 or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated. God bless you all

        • So your basically saying…your payments stopped on 12/8…but you have been successfully filing weekly claims up until 1/9?! If you have been filing those claims on the Gov2go website as opposed to calling in the 1-866 number to file your weekly claims, then there is clearly something wrong with your account or payment method…in which I strongly suggest calling 1-866-832-2363 between the hours of 8:15 and 6pm[select 1, then another 1…and another 1, enter your social..verify…and talk to someone asap!]. The earliest you call the better. I never trusted the gov2go tool as the system has soo many glitches and I highly recommend you call every Monday to file your weekly claims…to be honest that will ensure your claim certification as someone that has more knowledge than any of us is actually the one processing the claim! I will let Andy correct me if I am wrong. Good luck and God bless

        • Thank you for the help Adam greatly appreciated. I always call in I’m not real crazy about the site. And again thanks bunches and God bless

        • I have applied PUA weekly claims for 12/16, 1/02, and 1/09 succesfully over the phone as is still yet to receive payments. However when I call today to claim 1/16…I was told by the rep multiple times that I have to wait and call back and apply on the 29th. Any idea as to why…and has anyone been paid PUA for those weeks I mentioned? Thank you and God bless!

        • Adam any luck with yours happening today? For me still nothing but still able to keep claiming i can only guess that none of us that it ran out on on dec 26 are getting it till next friday? Everyone be safe and thanks for all the help with info been a rough month with no unemployment deposits

        • Hey Scott…unfortunately nothing on my end as well. I am pretty sure by now that target date is 1/29…as sad as it sounds…the past month has been tough…but there is always a light at the end of the tunnel…hope you stay safe until then and let’s keep updating eachother…God bless brother!

        • Has anyone else received a document saying to call to verify your vec unemployment? Im lost…

        • No I haven’t received any document…to be honest I don’t even know the email used. How did you receive that document…through regular mail or email?

        • I know you were asking the OP but just as a bit of help, I also have not received any letter either through postal mail or email. If there is a telephone number listed just be sure to check it is a legit VEC tel#. So many scams going on right now. I almost got scammed recently when I applied for a job. To get to the point I discovered upon research the company does not even exist at the address they indicated they had their headquarters.

        • Have they updated for what someone does where their regular UI benefits exhausted on the 8th, and now what do you do? Everything just stopped amd i had gotten 2 weeks of $300… am i supposed to filing something? Or just hang out till they want to address that one, i guess.

        • Gary, I am in the same boat except my last payment was for week ending 1/23/21. So I we fall within the group that had a balance past the end of 2020 but then zeroed out the rest with was was left. I wish they would post an update. I have a bad feeling that the 29th is going to be another one of those dates they extend and will use the 1 holiday to blame it on. Sigh. Lets hope I am wrong. Would love to be wrong in this case! Hang in there.

      • I’m pua as well and I have no luck getting through the 800 number. The system doesn’t recognize my social security number and says I filed for puec? I’m so confused about my case. I just filed 5 weeks!!

        • You need to call someone at the VEC as your claim may be classified (incorrectly) as a PEUC one and that is not getting rolled out till next week. Given yours is a complex case you will need manual action from a VEC agent to fix your claim.

  37. Someone please help! Two different situations. First my fiance. She filed on Dec 22nd and has now filed weeks one two and three of the PUA and has not received a single dollar. She got her Way2Go card and the Gov2Go is giving her the option to file every week and nothing is being paid. Next, mine. I filed all 39 weeks and then the 26th it stopped giving me the option to file and isn’t allowing for extended weeks still to date. Everyone says they are calling and I call BOTH NUMBERS and it just hangs up. Literally. Both of them. So I’m not able to file extended 11 weeks and she is filing but neither of us are getting paid. Please please help. Please. Googled until I can’t stand it anymore and really need this money, as do we all. Any info that can help? Solid info? Thanks so much.

    • Same here…all was good up until the 26th. I called in the 866 number, as I always do and never used gov2go for my weekly PUA claims, and filed and still has NOT received for weeks ending in 12/26…1/02 and 1/09. Everytime I called I was able to file my weekly claims for those 3 weeks I mentioned and still has not received any money on my way2go card. I read on the VEC website yesterday that they are implementing and reprogramming their software today 1/14 for the new relief package for PUA…so payments will be retroactive and hopefully money will start coming in either this week…or most probably next week. Please mind that since Monday is MLK day…this might cause another day or 2 delay! When you call the 866 number…select 1 for english…and then 1 for PUA…and another 1 for weekly claims…you will be asked to enter your social security number and connected to a rep. I ADVISE YOU CALL IN EVERY WEEK ON MONDAYS to do your weekly claims. As said…I never relied on Gov2go app or website in the past. Hope this helps…God Bless and stay safe!

        • Absolutely and the crazy thing is I still haven’t got the lwa that was sent to me in October and returned back to them in October and they still haven’t re issued that I have called six times already this morning and can’t get nobody I have a zero in the account and when I put my pin in they tell me I have to call the number that I just called. The last payment I received was 12 8

        • Same here! I highly deduce payment will be made next week…but then Monday is MLK day…so am thinking of Wednesday or Thursday instead of the normal Tuesday/Wednesday. God bless!

        • Just for a little ray of hope. I used the VEC phone filing instead of gov2 (does not provide me a link for more weeks anyway) to file for 1/9, which I did that on 1/13. Today, 1/15 I see that the payment is pending in my bank. That is always a good sign and now that my bank has the money they will release it either Monday (not sure since MLK) or Tue the latest but at least its there and not at the mercy of the VEC’s glitchy system. My plan is to call on Sunday shortly after midnight to file for week ending 1/16. I normally liked the online filing since I could file when I wanted to and did not have to monitor their hours but that is a small inconvenience at this point as long as its working. My 1 concern is that the balance says I only have a 370.00 balance which is only 2 weeks worth and from there not sure if I then file for EDD (getting PEUC now) or if the system has just not caught up to the extra weeks we were supposed to get. Either way my point of the whole post is to use the VEC phone weekly filing and just ignore gov2 for now.

        • Still nothing in my account!! And its been since dec 26 when it all started with this when it expired anyone else awake to anything deposited? Im still able to make my weekly claims i have made 4 and still no payment yet and or with the 300 whats going on VEC ??

        • I have PUA and claimed 12/26, 1/02, and 1/09 successfully with confirmation numbers and everything but still NO PAYMENT received whatsoever. When I called Tuesday to claim 1/16…the rep told me to call back on 1/29 to make the rest of weeks claim. So I think…now that no one is paid….I highly deduce that all PUA and even maybe PEUC are getting paid after 1/29!

        • I do have a pending payment for when I applied by automated phone system for week ending 1/16. I am on PEUC and according to the system only have 1 more week of balance even though I should have more due to the Dec extension. I can only tell you that you have to bite the bullet and call to speak to a live VEC worker. They might be able to get your payments unstuck. Hang in there.

        • Anyone have the correct number to call and how to push 1 then 1 and 1 to be successfully connected to a human? Every time i call the number i use to claim it says call volume to big call back later and hangs up on me

        • Unfortunately, it really doesn’t matter when you call the 800 or 866 number. I’ve called literally from before the open (to be “in the que”) throughout the entire day every minute of every hour and it’s ridiculous! PEUC can only file thru the phone on the 800 number or the Gov2Gov site. The 866 number, when you get to the press 1 to file with a person for PUA and “other” they can’t really help at all and sometimes you get a person who is at least professional and empathetic because otherwise when you follow the prompts of the 866, per the 800 number instructions to do so, to reach a representative, the call will hang up on you due to high call volumes. It’s legit a mess and not okay given the amount of time now and the money, support and resources the Governor of Virginia has been reportingly showing since the mess in the Spring and then with the embarrassment with how long it took for the LWA to be applied and last minute be delayed another 2wks. So back to being on hold and following the prompts to hopefully not get hung up on automatically from open to close to feel like I’m doing “something” while praying and hoping the 29th will come thru.

      • What i meant to say was anyone that has been able to file weekly since after the extension was signed and dec 26th receive there payments today? This is getting ridiculous this will be third week of no income at all

        • Adam any luck today? I Still received nothing in my account was praying it be today the implementation date of 29 this is terrible news anyone else receive theres as of today? Whats going on VEC

        • No one as of 2pm on 1/29 has seen anything yet. Their system update does not mean the system is open for certification and payment, I think that may only start in earnest next week. But the lack of transparency from the VEC is disappointing.

        • No luck my friend…However I am told by a somebody that has knowledge about this that payment will start being implemented next week! Just make sure to call and claim the weeks between 1/02 and 1/30…and payments will be issued next week. Stay safe!

        • Four new weeks of extension just loaded on the GOV2GO app minutes ago.
Another 5th week will be available this weekend.
I had exhausted all 39 weeks PUA. Extension weeks weren’t available until minutes ago.

  38. Terry, I exhausted my Peuc claims in December. I reapplied on 12/16 and received a email saying I will receive a determination letter in a few days. I never received anything but I still made sure I filed a claim every week. I tried called the 800 number can’t get in contact with anybody. On Monday I just so happen to call and reapply for the pua. I received a payment of $1800 from tra benefit yesterday on 1/12/21. What exactly is tra benefits? Will I be receiving that every week? Also I called to check my balance it still say a $0 balance.

  39. I exhausted my regular and extended benefits in December. When I called to file it wouldn’t let me for a week or two. Then it let me file for Jan 2 and 9. It says there’s no information on my claim when I call and check. Do people that exhausted regular and extended benefits still get the 300 weekly. So far I haven’t and usually get my payment Tuesday nights at 8-9
