It’s the peak processing time of tax season now that the PATH act (for EITC and ACTC returns) has lifted and most tax filers have gotten the required documents to file their return.
You can see the estimated 2023 IRS refund schedule/calendar below for the next 4 months, which I will update on a regular basis.
However as discussed below your refund payment date could be delayed well beyond the standard timeline if you see these codes or messages on Where is My Refund (WMR) or your IRS Transcript.

Why Your Refund Payment Could Be Delayed
There are many reasons your refund could get delayed beyond what is shown in the standard schedule above.
This is why many filers are see the “Return Processing Has Been Delayed Beyond The Normal Timeframe (Tax Topic 152)” message during tax season.
Delays are mainly due to filing submission errors, IRS reconciliation of claimed credits/deductions or fraud verification related issues.
How to Get Information on Your Refund (other than WMR)
While the WMR site or IRS2Go tool is the IRS endorsed way to get your refund status, it can sometimes be slow update.
So another way, as discussed in this article, is to check your IRS tax transcript (free from your IRS account) that shows what is called a “cycle code.” This is an eight digit number that indicates when your tax return posted to the IRS Master File (IMF), which is processed in daily cycles.
Once IRS processing is complete, and all required verifications have been done, you will get an updated message on WMR/IRS2Go and on your transcript.
This shows up as Code 846 (Refund Issued) on your transcript with your estimated Direct Deposit date.
