The IRS has announced that it is now processing tax returns for all taxpayers, including those who filed a return including those who claimed the EITC/ACTC. Unlike prior years, processing seems to be much smoother this year.
The number of returns processed by the I.R.S. was down about 10 percent from a year earlier, according to statistics provided by the agency. The average refund amount is also likely to be much lower this year.

Those who had dates of 22nd, most got their refund deposited on Friday. I was one of them. Those on the 23rd are the ones that will get theirs on Tues/Wed. The banks have the funds already; they just aren’t releasing until starting midnight tonight up until Wed. Think about it, if it only takes let’s just say 24/48 hours for the banks to get the refunds from the treasury…then those that went out on the 15-16…reached the banks in time for Friday releases. Those on 17-18 will release on Tues./Wed. It is the bank that are holding those refunds until after the holiday…IRS warned the delay are with the BANKS, not the Treasury or them.
The IRS had this strategy planned long time ago when they started that PATH law…they knew how they was going to roll out the releases…Treasury Dept. has the capabilities to release without being Opened.
My mom/dad gets SS and their checks are released (5) days and their bank hold it in “pending” status until the date on the check…the same thing for Refunds…some banks don’t hold (depends) on your bank policy. My credit union don’t hold. Don’t be fooled…technology allows anything to process in real time…electronically means just that…real time….just like an email can come from me to you….within minutes.
Oh by the way everyone take a look at your WMR up until you actually get your refund. I have read where some have posted that Sat they had DDD, then Sunday it changed back to ..”we are processing your return…and this weekend that got a ltr 4883 (id verification) or 4464c, and letters asking to fax 1095 health form…varies issues…their DDD was pulled and placed back on hold….
So, don’t spend that money until you actually have it in your bank account/hands…IRS is pulling a lot of tricks this year…
I know everyone may have the same question, so instead of trying to reply to everyone individually, there is nothing you can do from now until Saturday but pray you are one of the lucky ones that will get an update and DDD or 846 on your transcript between now and the 18th.
I HIGHLY recommend you call all day today and speak to as many IRS rep you need to if you got questions or concerned there may be an issues, hold or review that may delay you further..
It only takes 10-15 minutes to get thru this line…(800) 829-0582 ext. 652. Just tell them you got a code on the WMR this morning saying you were instructed to call; but you don’t recall what the code was and you are not at a computer to log in…do I have a letter being mailed or do I need to verify my ID or something? This is a sure way to get them to call up your return to take a look…
If they say just the WMR by the 18th this is a “secret” code for – You will be seeing DDD on or before that day on the WMR…you can get them to but you have to be very persuasive and persistent which take a lot of work…lol. Heck I was worn out after that call…smh. But it was well worth the answer I got at the end. :-).
HINT: Make you your message on the WMR does not say “processing”…but instead “processed”…there is a huge difference…”processing” mean something is still going on and you are not fully done…the other YOU ARE.
The reason for the different wording is for those who did not get the PATH message in the first place; and who still have we are still processing your return and a date will be available….(This is how they can tell them apart).
[Update Feb 14th] The IRS has confirmed to several readers that seeing the “PATH” message in WMR is a good thing. It means the IRS has reviewed your return and is now holding on processing until Feb 15 as required by law. You should start seeing updates to your WMR status and a Direct Deposit Date (DDD) from Feb 15th or 16th (since WMR updates overnight).
Sharon I spoke with IRS on today, if you claim EIC they should start releasing payments on Wednesday Also IRS will be working Saturday & Monday. So hopefully we all should be relieved by the weekend. Special Thanks to Author Andy for this special page!!
Jazzy …You get a FULL PAGE PATH message, starting check back for a personal DDD date after the 15th. Everyone got the 152 path message where you click on the Code 152 to read. The other one…pops up after the bars disappears…. I think people are getting confused about the (2) path message, that’s all…IRS WEBSITE NEWS:

The Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act (the PATH Act), mandates that the IRS not issue a refund on tax returns claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit until Feb. 15. The additional time helps the IRS stop fraudulent refunds from being issued to identity thieves and fraudulent claims with fabricated wages and withholdings.
Jennifer says in a comment on the IRS refund schedule, “My return was accepted on the 17th. I received an email early Tuesday morning and checked and it was. So I guess some were actually accepted before the 23rd. I do get eitc but not actc.” Gerri on the same article says, “My return was accepted. I find it odd that turbo tax is already giving me a date range. I thought the irs was delaying EIC returns. If that’s the case, how is it possible that Turbo tax has a date for me already. I am hoping that since I filed so so early this year, that maybe the irs is processing some returns to test the system out. Maybe some of us that claim the EIC will not get delayed. Hmmmm….wishful thinking I suppose!”

Christine – Mine was accepted by the IRS (not H&R Block which I used because my husband is Military) today on the 18th. We have always claimed EIC, so I am hoping ours doesn’t get held. Not because I have pressing issues or bills to be paid.Amanda – My return was accepted by the IRS. I too claim EIC. I spoke to a tax expert and was told they are not holding all EIC returns. So what is going on?
This is definitely creating some confusion for readers. But the answer is simple. The IRS was clear that processing would not start till Jan 23rd. But they will clearly accept earlier. Receiving/Accepting your return vs approving/processing your refund is two different things.
To see this more clearly look the official IRS Where’s My Refund tool process diagram which shows the following sequence of how they accept. process and pay out refunds. You can see that when a refund is received (or accepted) it means that it is in queue for processing. But it does not mean it is approved and/or a refund is ready to be paid.
The three status’ in the official IRS WMR tool are (1) Return Received (sometimes = return accepted), (2) Refund Approved and (3) Refund Sent. Sometimes if you are using popular online tax filing tools like TurboTax or H&R block, you may see them showing refund approved. but that is the status in their system or based on an IRS refund payment estimate they have derived from past years. You need to go to the official IRS WMR tool page to see the personalized IRS processing status and refund information/date.
Kim, Nykky, Nicole, Tam, abeach250- Can you guys help me out. Lol. I am just a little confused. Are Green Dot Bank and Sbtpg the same? On my tax papers on one page it lists green dot bank to be handling my refund, and I should be getting an email from them, ( I haven’t received an email). And it states that my refund will directly go into my bank account. On another page it lists both. So I am confused as to where I should be looking for it? Lol or when I will receive it, I have a ddd of 2/23 so not totally worried at this point. Just curious more then anything. I have no other routing numbers on my papers stating that it will go to one of these places first, it’s just my bank/credit union. But, it does say that my fees were taken out and Green Dot Bank will be handling it. Just looking for help. I am also confused about the frbservices sight and how to read I guess. Don’t worry it’s always best to check both green dots is the bank that will collect your fees and then hit your credit union so if you check you credit union and they don’t have anything go back and check green dot to see if the fees were made. But I think since we all have DDD for 2/23 that were not going to see anything until later in the day tomorrow due to the holiday I don’t think we are going to receive it earlier for some will see pending deposits but some banks are slower than others like mine Chase but the credit union should show pending tomorrow.

I would think it means IRS sent the Treasury your FULL refund; then the bank intercepted with a routing number for the treasure to wire in directly to them which would be (2) transactions. Which most likely happened on Friday…IRS sent a lot of refunds that day and the 2nd one is probably then one that is issued to the bank and you should see a deposit tonight. I think that is YOUR refund about to hit your bank or theirs…good sign!

Jazzy- I did file through turbo tax, and had my fees taken out of my refund. Which I know delays it. But, I don’t see that bank name on the federal reserve sight at all. Just mine. Anne, are you using a prepaid card? If so, they had to give you a temporary routing number; then after they took your fees they will forward to your bank…
So see if you can find that routing number…somewhere when you filed and submitted to IRS. If not, then it means IRS will send it directly to you.
Somehow they had to attached some authorization form to let IRS know you owed fees to them first…maybe others can explain how their work. I am not really very knowledgeable of this process. But if there was a middleman in this…their has to be a way they get their money before you do…uhmmmmmm (puzzled). HELP, someone..lol.
Jazzy- on all my paperwork I only see my account number and rounding numbers. I didn’t use a pay card, I used my Credit Union. I will have to investigate further. Lol. On the first page that printed it lists a balance/refund due, and it states my original refund, and then the refund after my fees were taken out, and then it lists my bank info. I am so confused. Lol. But, like I said I am just curious. But, now I will have to investigate further. I will keep you posted.
Anne, I wonder how do they get their fees? uhmmmmm must be a step we are missing between them and IRS and when you submitted the amount of your total refund to IRS. How would the Treasury now to subtract the fees and who to send them too and then give you the difference.
This is a new mystery even for me…lol. I am sure the others can explain how this work. Well, it looks like you should just be checking your bank account…to see if it is less the fees; then somehow they got it.
Guess see when your refund is deposited if it came straight from IRS and not a 3rd party release. Mines indicated it was directly from the IRS…because I did it myself with no fees/middleman or nothing…uhmmmmm.
Let me know how this turns out…lol. I am sure we are missing something…ask others how are do the process works for them when they owe fees…maybe we can get some insight on how yours will work…

Anne, that Record type 1, I think was the one that changed when my deposit was pending. I am going to see if I can find out exactly what that means…it could be 1 transaction wired to that routing #. Look for the list of banks I posted it will tell you the times each bank releases funds overnight.
Not 100% sure…it did change for me. So, I am thinking you may have a wire transaction pending. The reserve do process at 9pm est and a lot of releases were hitting people cards/banks.
I will post if I can figure out exactly how to understand what exactly does that mean. ok. Let me do some homework..lol.

That is good news you no longer see Bancrop this morning; that could only mean one thing; the money has moved from the bank and is in route to you. That transaction has been completed, so it remove the entry.

amber, that is the bank your refund it going to so they can take their fees…they are rerouting your refund to them, you authorized the bank to do so on your behalf…then they will put it on the prepaid card when they are done collecting their monies…the middleman is causing your delay, and getting interest on your refund as long as they can.

DD 2/22.
I was hopping that I can see my funds on my bank ACC but nothing. I even call the bank and asked the banker to contact their ACH dept. but supposedly there is nothing pending for me either .
Was looking forwards to pay bills today and take my kids to a nice dinner but I guess God wants me to be patient and just focus on something else instead of this funds. Hahaha.

All, this is the reason it is taking so long because too many banks hands are processing your money. Next year, pay fees upfront then I guarantee you will get it sooner than later. This is just crazy and I know they have your money.

But update nothing at all Chase stated nothing pending and nothing showing for 2/23 called JH to see if my feed were paid they stated nothing had been sent to them either also told me that there fees come out automatically so it shouldn’t hold up my money in my bank. That’s why I hate Chase we I get my payroll check it never shows pending to the day I get my direct deposit. I’m so sad and frustrated they sold the car I wanted they wouldn’t hold it any further now the next is going to be sold if I don’t get my money by Thursday. So there is nothing at all about receiving or expecting the amount of your return? Have you been able to order your transcript? The account one? Since you still have the Topic 152 that is a good sign. Do you know if you have any offset? Have you call the number (800) 304-3107.
That can mean a lot of things:
1. They are updating
2. You could be resequenced
3. Under a Review
4. Need to verify ID
There is an update on Wednesday so you could be getting your DDD tomorrow or Saturday if you are weekly. I need to know your cycle code on the account transcript…
What all did you file EIC/ACTC…did you have any new changes within the last (3) years? If so, you will be pulled for a review.

Where’s My Refund? has been updated for those refunds containing the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Additional Child Tax Credit that had been held by law. Barring other issues, taxpayers should see those refunds in their financial accounts beginning the week of Feb. 27.
Just a reminder that “Where’s My Refund?” is updated once daily so checking it multiple times per day will not produce new or different results. To use “Where’s My Refund?”, taxpayers need their Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, filing status (single, married filing jointly, etc.) and the exact amount of the refund claimed.
I called the offset # yesterday and it gave me a DDD and my offset amount. I double checked today and it is now telling me it can not give me any information. GGrrrrr!!! This is all such a mess. Anyone else have this issue?

@nkky I didn’t even see my bank account info or my date on there. The site said my money was received and it’s being issued to me and the fees was taken out. I never used turbo tax before so I’m not sure whats the site suppose to say but now I’m nervous my bank account info is wrong becuse it wasn’t on the site. Alexusb- be patient their website and phones are all down. But, they said they are still processing refunds. Well for sbtpg anyways. I haven’t seen any movement at all, not even a pending at my credit union. But, my date is 2/23, so won’t really worry until Thursday. Although it is frustrating. Hang in there. Hopefully everything is correct. Did you check on your paper work to make sure your account is correct? And call your bank to make sure you have the correct info? Also the federal reserve sight will have info on there as well. Good luck! Hope you get your refund shortly. Also, sbtpg doesn’t start updating until 1pm their time again, which is west coast as they are in Sandeigo. Jazzy posted a comment from a gal on another sight. And she said every one with a date of 2/22 or 2/23 should receive soon. Praying we all get our refund soon today! ☺️
Hi Alexusb, when I first checked this am it was 5:30? Their time before the even opened, when I saw my account info with date received from federal refund, expected amount, total fees including their fees, and my balance after. Then it shows a pie graph and then under it it showed total amount payment, the method of payment (which was dd, with my account last 4 and complete routing number) notes and then message please allow 1-2 business days to receive and then amount. ( happy I took pictures of everything) I then call their number got confirmation. Now after that an hour later I check site again, everything is missing but expected to receive amount, total paid fees is there, and amount to be issued. I called again, to see if I could still get confirmation but now it won’t let me through saying invalid information. Took pictures of that too. I go back again, lol, 3 hours later took pictures, now all fields of above mentioned first time is back however account info is missing along with method payment missing. Their system is I think down now. Cause it won’t let me update. Reason I did these steps is because they pulled a number on me last year kept changing my date of refund issuance to me, lied about not being able to deposit funds in my account charged me additional fees and after having to verify myself and wait more time they finally mailed my refund to me several weeks later. Yes my mom had to remind I wanted to forget that bad. But try that was the first time I saw that on their site what happened this am, that I could remember. What you are describing is what I am also seeing on mine now. I will keep you most definitely posted. And my dd is 2/22

If you used tt and paid fee’s upfront, where is the money sent from? Is it still sent to sbbt? Is there a number i can call?
BrandySA- your refund will come directly from IRS or the bank they use. To your account if you paid the fees directly. It will not go through sbtpg.
Anne-Thanks for the reply…do you know what bank the irs uses? I have ddd of feb22 which i know is tmrw but usually always have the money before then. I always use tt but usally allow them to take the fees out from my refund but choose to pay upfront to avoid going thru the 3rd party this year which i see still doesn’t help ugh lol
BrandySA- I don’t. But, you could check the federal reserve web site – “frbservice.org” and go to E-payments routing directory. And type in your routing number. Under ach payments, abd payments. It might tell you in there, and it might have a deposit date. I’m not sure. Hope this helps.

Alexusb, you are welcome, you all hang in there something should be pending later or first thing in the morning. The Federal Reserve runs releases from 9pm – I think it said 6pm. So a lot of more release may go out again like it did last night at 9pm or the banks are just not releasing because they had too many this morning and doing them over a 2 day period.
I will see if I can find some updated information when I get home after 6pm. I will try to check back in if I get a few minutes to do so.
Back to work this week so my time is limited…sorry you guys. But I am still with you :-)
I got my refund this morning at about 7AM. I have USAA bank and they usually deposit a day early, at least they have for the past few years. Though as of Friday evening they had stated there was no pending deposit scheduled, and they did not process over weekends.
I had a deposit date of 2/22. SO happy this tax season is done for me. And it will be short enough for all you too. This is my first post as I’ve only been reading since the start. Thanks to all for your help through this, and a special shout out to Jazzy who is just plain awesome.

I’m with green dot and have the same ddd of 2/23 but I’ve been with them for 4 years now and every year the money isn’t available untill the ddd the irs gives. Idk why because I get my payroll dd 1 or 2 days early everytime. I just want my money!

I got 10 minutes to post this info for HRB folks…Go the the Reserve Link I gave you and type in the routing number on your Tax Return…it will let you know if a deposit has been sent to that account from the Federal Reserve to them..
If the link did not list in my previous post….google Federal Reserve Bank Services frbservices.org..it showed me all my bank account info and showed the #1…for a deposit pending. Under them middle section under E-Payments Routing Directory – It will give you the bank info that gets your money first…

Look at your online return, it states that the 3rd party bank that your account refund goes to (before they take out fees) is BofI bank based in San Diego, California. You can find your refund account number & the routing number 101089724 located on your return. Mine says its a checking account. The bank does not open until 8am PST, & since HRB is not being very forthcoming with information, I suggest you call this bank to find out if the return funds have at lease been released, as they are the 3rd party processor for HRB fees. From this acct, the remaining funds should then be released to your ACH or Emerald i assume. Since the acct # & routing # are both found on your return, this seems like the best place to start. Bri- thank you for sharing that info. I was wondering that. I filed with TT but had my fees taken out, so it will go to SBTPG first and then my checking. While it is frustrating, at least the waiting game is almost over. I wish they would release early as well. In years past I have always used hr block, never had an issue. And they always released a day or 2 early. Guess time will tell and it’s just a waiting game. I am still hopeful for today or tomorrow though. I have a date of 2/23.

No, the Federal Reserve link is for ALL routing numbers anyone has on their tax return for look up and see if they see and pending transfer for the Treasury to the banks your monies is going to 1st…for them to take out there fees. Then you can look up that number and call and see if they have gotten the funds…also when the name of the bank comes up…one of the fields would show if something been sent…you will see 1 instead of 0.

i did the web site the frb site and i put my routing number in that they gave me and it came up with the bank and the phone number thats it what does that mean

The bank and number that cam up in the Federal Reserve database; is the where the money will be wire into that routing number and account. It may go thru 2 more process till it gets in your hand. It will indicate a ACH transaction if it is pending, if not, then it may have been released and accepted by the bank and you just waiting for it to be put on your prepaid card which maybe a little later tonight thru the morning….
I would really start to be a little more concern if it is not here by Wed…but they just may be holding for interest. Who really knows what is going on; this whole process starting with the PATH act has been a nightmare…one that seem to never end for all you who are still waiting…so sorry you all are going thru this..

Its still early; with this many deposits hitting, I am sure it will take most bank the majority of the day, into tomorrow to finish releasing the millions of refunds.

Stay in close contact with your bank they have all the answers.
Also, keep checking the WMR, IRS halted some DDD’s…and reversed back to …”we are processing…. Until you actually see your money don’t count on it…just yet! Just be cautious; remember Murphy Law’s; a lot can go wrong between the bank and your hands. Scammers are lurking…and swiping some pre-paids cards…if they get the chance.
If you have any doubts your bank info was correct; names not on account that is on the IRS check; notify the bank to stop the rejection and return back to the treasury.
Hang in there, I know it is frustrating to wait and wait and wait…some more after the PATH long wait. Your journey to will be ending hopefully today but for some perhaps it may be tomorrow the latest.

I just called my bank (credit union) to see if they have any deposit pending for taxes? They said as of now no and then they asked me what day was I expecting it, I told her 02/23 and she looked and she said she see it but the monies are not released until that day but if the funds become available before they will release it immediately so everyone who’s worried like I was call your bank let them know the exact date your expecting your money so they can do a internal search. I called lol this am to see if sent it automatic message said it was now when I call I can’t connect keep saying info is invalid. But them receiving is still available. No pending deposits yet
