When Will The Extra $300 Weekly FPUC Unemployment Stimulus End in My State?

The Biden ARP stimulus bill continued the supplementary $300 Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) payment that was already in place for another 25 weeks. In most states this will cover the benefit weeks ending March 20th, 2021 to September 4th, 2021. However per the table below many states are ending this payment much earlier than planned.

Eligibility criteria is the same as earlier FPUC payments where the claimant has to be getting $1 from any underlying regular state or federally funded unemployment benefit program during the 25 week coverage period. Any payments will be retroactively caught up for eligible weeks.

Do I need to take any action to be paid the $300 FPUC?

Like prior FPUC weekly payments, you won’t have to to take any additional action to receive this supplemental payment from your state UI agency. Just continue to file your claim each week for the unemployment benefit you are currently receiving and the supplementary payment will be added to that (including retroactive back payments) once your state agency updates their systems to make this payment.

Were PUA and PEUC extended? Both PUA and PEUC programs were also extended (see details here) until September 6th, 2021. Additional weeks will cover people who have exhausted their current weeks or balance. See this article on what actions you may have to take to get these UI extensions, which will then enable you to get the $300 FPUC payment.

11-week Unemployment Extension under CAA Bill to March 14th 2021

The new $900 billion COVID-19 Relief Stimulus Package has now been passed by Congress and signed into law by the President. Among other enhanced unemployment programs (PUA and PEUC) it includes an extra $300 FPUC supplementary UI payment. The supplementary payment will provide up to 11 weeks of weekly payments and is expected to cover the weeks of Dec 27th, 2020 until March 14th, 2021. The actual payment date for these 11 weeks of extra payments (a maximum of $3,630) will begin a few weeks after the program start date and payments will be made retroactively.

The weekly $300 FPUC payment will be on top of any regular unemployment and require eligible claimants to certify regularly according to their state UI agency guidelines. The Department of Labor (DOL) will shortly issue final guidelines on payments and eligibility (as done with the original $600 FPUC program that expired in July 2020) and any delayed payments will be retroactively reimbursed. I will update dates/status in the table below as states implement these guidelines and start making making payments.

As a reminder, here is how most states are starting the extended enhanced unemployment payments as they update their systems to process extended claims for those who had exhausted their benefits or wanted to file a new claim on or after December 27th, 2020:

  • Claimants who were receiving PUA, PEUC or EB (Extended Benefits) when the programs originally ended Dec. 26 and still had weeks left of eligibility should not see an interruption in payments, and have continued to be paid benefits in addition to the $300 FPUC as long as they were otherwise eligible.
  • Claimants who had exhausted their PUA benefits or PEUC benefits on or prior to Dec. 26 and are eligible for benefits will begin receiving payments for the $300 FPUC by mid-January (see state tracker)

Irrespective of when your state starts making payments, they will include retroactive payments to week ending January 2, 2021 (Start of extension period) if eligible. In order to be paid, you must have weekly certifications on file. Claimants who are still unemployed should continue to file their weekly certifications, so that payments can be made to eligible claimants as soon as state UI systems are updated to being processing the additional payments.

  1. i did assembly work for a small company which is responsible for tech work at Opera houses. In Feb 2020. i got a letter stating we would not be assembling parts as all the theaters had been closed. then in May i got another letter and it said that we would have zero chance of work thru Q3 2021. unable to find other emp, loyment i have struggled but been able to get help thru other agencies. about a month ago with no other choice i filed for food stamps. Embarrased and worried i would not qualify, i spoke with a caseworker, i ended up nearly melting down during my interview and she asaked me why i had not applied for PAU. i had no idea it even existed and did not think i wouyld qualify since i was an as needed worker. i went home and about three weeks ago applied. i have gotten a monetary determination. 169 a week, and althoughg the only issues on my account say they do not affect payment. i am pending aducation. i spoke to someone and they said it just has to be approved due to the back date and thats it. So i am wondering, if i am doing the math correctlym and they are going to pay bme for all the back pay including the 600 thru july2020 and the 300 to current? i am so nervous i can barely eat. this money could get my family back on track, but i am so scared it will be another disappointment! what are my chances

  2. Yes I have been waiting for 4weeks and still nothing I’m waiting for the pecu it’s really been 5weeks I ran out of money December the 19th now is January 27th and still nothing how much longer is this going to take another month another week another two weeks or till March when it runs out

  3. I have a question from Ohio… I was receiving benefits had a balance left and wasn’t due to end for another seven weeks when I got a notice December 22, 2020 saying my benefits were no longer good as of December 13, 2020 because Ohio was no longer in a high unemployment rate. My claim still says active however my determination per that notice says I’ve exhausted all of my PUA benefits and state that I am in Ineligible indefinitely.
Since you have to be eligible in order to receive these new benefits where does that leave me? This whole thing is very confusing.

  4. So Andy I have a question that’s dated back farther, I am in NC they have the shortest weeks of unemployment. I was furloughed and eventually let go my benefits EB expired after 6wks 11/15 it made me file For PUA and it has been pending for 9 wks my portal has let me certify each Sunday as usual. I am under the impression that I should be reverted back to PEUC any help ?

  5. I was collecting unemployment from Dec. 20 through January10, but went back to work temporarily on the week of January 11-18. Will I receive the extra $300 a week from the two weeks I was eligible? Or, because I went back to work on the week they started processing payments do I get screwed out of it again? When the extra $600 was being paid, I didn’t get laid off until the day it ended. My employer knew ahead of time that I was getting laid off but had issued a letter of reasonable assurance only to change their mind when the stimulus ended. The same thing happened the first time the extra $300 was offered. They brought me back to work just enough hours so I wouldn’t qualify, then laid me off again.

  6. My PUA Claim had a zero balance as of 12/13/20. I filed a new claim and it say ineligible due to monetary determination. 0.00 but it only took the information as regular UI it will not let my file for PUA. Please advise. Last time you had to go not a PUA portal after you were denied regular UI. I don’t know what to do? Should I file another claim?

  7. I exhausted all my michigan pua on dec 5th. I was told i dont need to do anything they will reopen it is that true or do i have to reapply

  8. Andy I think I have a question no one have asked yet. I live in Va and I had a balance of 785.00 dollars left sunday night (1/3/21) when I tried to put my claim in for Pecu, (But it wouldn’t go through) .So I tried today and now its saying that my balance is 0 and its not allowing me to put in my weekly claim as well….

    • I recently lost. Y job and filed for unemployment and I got my first payment of $200.50 Then 2 days later got a monetary letter stating I was denied due to insufficient funds in my quarterly time it said to keep Filingeven know you were denied so I did but this time it offer ne 4 weeks to claim I got confused so I hung up and went on the chat line people said to claim all the weeks and that unemployment would not offer them if you weren’t entitled to them I gave been trying to go on my account and trying to talk to alive person but get nothing as much as I need this income I dont want nothing that I dont have coming to me but i cant get a hold of anyone to find out and dont want to get in trouble if they weren’t mine to claim my account does say I am already enrolled to get the additional $300 but still havent received none of the $300 payments can you help me understand this better?

  9. My benefit year end date was12/26/20 I have exhausted my benefits. I noticed recently my benefit end date changed to 03/14/21. What I’m unsure of is do I wait to automatically get an extension or do I reapply. It does not allow me to file a weekly claim because it says my benefits have exhausted. I have a $0 balance.

    • You will automatically get it if you get any other form for unemployment. State UI agencies are updating their systems to make payments. Your state UI agency will send updates and may require additional documentation’s

  10. I got re approved for pua and says 195.00 BUT it only says from Dec. 27 thru Jan 30…what happens to the 11 weeks
..will that somehow change as we go?

  11. Hi Andy. I just applied for and was approved for pandemic UI assistance…PUA benefits.
It tells me 195.00 starting dec 27th but ends jan 30th.
Will they change that at some point to the 11 weeks and add the extra 300.00 on automatically….or did i apply incorrectly and ill only get payments for four weeks.?
    Thsnk you

      • I was re approved after having to update after my benefits were exhausted dec 27th. FYI…PUA was what i wss approved for and for 195.00. It stated i could start to certify today dec 4th but when i tried it wouldn’t let me.
Also instead of benefits ending in 11 weeks it says only 1 month….any idea why these two things are happening. Thanx

  12. I’m confused and can’t find answers anywhere, my state (ohio) UI ended Dec 26, but it has yet to tell me I have exhausted my benefits, and tells me I need to file my next claim on Jan. 3rd, but I have no funds left to file on! Will I need to file for the 11 week extension?

    • Keep filing/certifying. States are in the process of updating systems and awaiting final DOL guidelines. You will get paid retroactively for any missed weeks you were eligible

      • Hello, I’m just seeing this information. I’m im MI, and I don’t see any instructions or details regarding how to apply for extended unemployment benefits. When I log in, it says all of my certifications are complete and I’m not sure if I recieved all the benefits I was previously due. All of my info was deleted on my account.
        Thank you

      • Hi. I am in PA – I was informed that I had to refile my existing claim that ended also on December 26th – so you have to go into file a new claim/existing claim and all your former information will come up to verify – there is some new information you will have to respond to and maybe upload the docs again…then you will get another approval and a NEW claim number. And yes, my first
filing (without funds) is Sunday as well – but you are filing in order to have the funds put into your account (or debit card) – and it starts again. The only question I have is when it went through and I got an approval – it said it was only going to start on December 26, 2020 and only go to January 30, 2021 – so only one month???? Maybe they have to do something else so I get it for the extended period of 11 weeks. That I’m not sure of, but I’ve put that into a question here – we will see what the answer is. I hope this helps.

    • Does it say (Active) on your FPUA certification home page? You may have to reactivate your unemployment status. You still need to be eligible for unemployment benefits right now too for the extra $300.

  13. What I am wondering about is all that time after the extended benefits ran out and we only received $100 a week will the $300 new stimulus a week retroactively cover those weeks as well or just a flat 11 weeks from December 26 on?

  14. Andy…to make this clear.
Being that our self employed unemployment balance was zero before December 26th
Will there be an extension of the self employed benefits

Example. 195.00 self employed unemployment benefits…plus we received
    600.00 stimulus both weekly
Now Will we still get weekly the 195.00 still
plus the new 300.00 weekly even tho our self employed unemployment funds ran out a week b4 December 26th.
In other words Will we get both the 195.00 and the 300.00 weekly even tho the benefits have been exhausted.

    • This is like mine, my benefits were 0 by dec 13th, but I filed a new claim and it say ineligible and I can not file a PUA claim. What do I do next?

  15. Hello Andy,

Like the previous commenter, I am having trouble trying to find answers in regards to completing a new claim for the extended benefits. I already have been receiving payments from pua and I still have a balance. So I believe you said that we do not need to complete a new claim if we have an existing claim that still has a balance. Is that correct?
On my message area on the UI site, it said something about reapplying before midnight on the 26th if the benefits were not extended. Now that message has disappeared. I just do not want to be wasting time. I am sure alot of us are wondering the same thing. It seems like we are having to wait for updated instructions from the DOL? Hoping that we do not have to file new claims. That just seems like it would take so much longer.
Thank you for all your help. It is greatly appreciated during these difficult times.
    Take care.

  16. Andy…I have a question no one seems to address..

If you were already approved for and receiving the self employment stimulus payments which expired December 26 th 2020….do you need to apply again or will the funds continue to go into the same originally opened claim. If a new claim is required where do you do that….PA

    • You should continue to get paid if you had an existing balance/claim. It may take a week or two to get the continuing payments for the 11 extra weeks. Final guidelines should be out soon, so want to caveat that states may decide to get everyone to reapply (to combat fraud) or require a reactivation. So watch your emails/text closely and I will update as well. You can see this page for state specific updates – https://savingtoinvest.com/unemployment-benefits-resources-federal-enhanced-programs-pua-peuc-puc-and-latest-updates/

      • The balance ran out on dec 26…so I can assume people like myself may have to start completely over …applying again but we can’t do that now….but we will be advised what and when to do it from the government or our State

You have been the only person able to respond to my questions ….and I’m asking for a number of others who have no idea what to do now….we thank you so much

        • Correct. Sate unemployment offices will need to wait for federal guidance, via the Department of Labor, to determine how to confirm payment of the new benefits. This could take 2 to 4 weeks (depends on states). Hopefully sooner, but any eligible payments will be made retroactively.

        • Once you are reactivated or are still eligible to receive unemployment benefits and are active on the FPUA certification website, you will see your benefits balance remaining and will receive the $300 retroactive pay and then $300 a week in the additions column.
