Key Takeaways

  • FY2026 max SNAP benefit: $298/month for 1 person, $994/month for a family of 4 u2014 a ~2% increase over FY2025
  • Benefits are distributed via EBT card and deposit on a state-assigned schedule, typically at the start of each month
  • The OBBB expanded work requirements to cover adults aged 55u201364 and parents of teens (children over 14) for the first time
  • Federal gross income limit is 130% of the poverty line (~$1,632/mo for 1 person) u2014 many states expand this via BBCE
  • The OBBB cut $186B in SNAP funding and requires states to share benefit costs starting in 2028

The maximum SNAP (Food Stamps) benefit for a family of four in fiscal year 2026 is $994 per month — up from $975 last year. If you’re a single adult, the max is $298/month.

But 2026 is a more complicated year for SNAP than most. The One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) made the biggest structural changes to the program in decades — expanding work requirements to older adults and parents of teenagers, cutting $186 billion in federal SNAP spending over 10 years, and requiring states to begin sharing benefit costs as early as 2028.

Here’s what the numbers look like, what changed, and how to find your state’s specific amounts and deposit dates.

FY2026 SNAP Benefit Amounts

SNAP benefits are adjusted each October 1 via a cost-of-living formula tied to food price inflation. Here are the maximum monthly allotments for FY2026 (October 1, 2025 through September 30, 2026):

Household Size Max Monthly Benefit Federal Gross Income Limit (130% FPL)
1 person $298 $1,632/mo
2 people $546 $2,214/mo
3 people $785 $2,798/mo
4 people $994 $3,380/mo
5 people $1,183 $3,963/mo
6 people $1,421 $4,545/mo
7 people $1,571 $5,128/mo
8+ people $1,791+ add ~$583/person

Note: These are the federal maximums. Most households receive less — your actual benefit depends on net income after deductions. States with Broad-Based Categorical Eligibility (BBCE) may have higher income limits than the federal 130% floor.

What Changed in 2026: OBBB Work Requirements

The OBBB made several significant SNAP changes, most of which took effect in late 2025 and early 2026.

Expanded work requirements: Before the OBBB, most Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWDs) aged 18–49 had to meet a 20-hour/week work or training requirement. The OBBB extended that to adults aged 55–64 — a major change affecting millions of older Americans who previously had no work requirement.

Parents of older children: Parents whose youngest child is over 14 are now subject to work requirements. Previously, any parent with a child under 18 was exempt. This closes a significant exemption window.

The threshold: 80 hours per month of work, job training, or approved volunteer activity. Fail to meet it and you’re limited to 3 months of SNAP in any 36-month period.

State cost-sharing: Starting in FY2027, states will begin paying a share of SNAP benefit costs based on their payment error rate. This is new territory for state budgets and I expect it will lead to stricter eligibility administration in higher-error states.

$186 billion in cuts: The Urban Institute estimates more than 22 million households could lose some or all benefits due to the OBBB’s combined changes.

If you were receiving SNAP in 2024 and haven’t recertified recently, it’s worth checking your eligibility — the rules have shifted.

What to Watch: SNAP Changes Ahead

A few things I’m tracking closely for the rest of 2026 and into 2027:

FY2027 COLA: SNAP benefits update every October 1. USDA typically releases the new amounts in late summer. I’ll update this page and all 50 state guides as soon as the numbers drop.

BBCE survival: The OBBB initially would have eliminated Broad-Based Categorical Eligibility — which lets many states set higher income limits than the federal 130% floor. BBCE narrowly survived the final bill, but it remains a target in future budget negotiations.

State cost-sharing rollout: As states start absorbing SNAP costs in 2028, watch for changes to how aggressively states audit cases and enforce eligibility rules.

Things can shift quickly. I’ll update this page when new information comes in — subscribe here to get notified.

How SNAP Works: Quick Overview

SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) is administered by USDA’s Food and Nutrition Administration (FNA) and operated by each state. Benefits load monthly onto a state-issued EBT debit card — the card name varies by state (Golden State Advantage Card in California, Bridge Card in Michigan, etc.) but functions the same way at checkout.

Eligibility is based on:

  • Gross income (before deductions): generally 130% FPL at the federal level, higher in states with BBCE
  • Net income (after deductions): 100% FPL for most households
  • Citizenship/immigration status: U.S. citizens and certain lawfully present immigrants qualify
  • Work requirements: most non-exempt adults 18–64 must register for work; ABAWDs must meet 80 hrs/month

Common deductions that reduce your countable income:

  • 20% earned income deduction (automatic)
  • Standard deduction ($219/month for 1–3 person households in FY2026)
  • Excess shelter cost deduction
  • Dependent care, medical expenses (elderly/disabled), and child support payments

How much you receive depends on your household size and net income. The formula: max benefit minus 30% of net income. Households with zero net income get the full maximum; households with net income above the limit get nothing.

SNAP Benefit History (2022–2026)

Period Max Benefit (Family of 4) Key Development
FY2022 (Oct 2021 – Sep 2022) $835/month Temporary boost from the American Rescue Plan expired Oct 1, 2021 — but emergency allotments were still in place in most states
FY2023 (Oct 2022 – Sep 2023) $939/month Emergency Allotments ended in early 2023. Many households saw benefits drop sharply — some to as little as $23/month
FY2024 (Oct 2023 – Sep 2024) $973/month ~3.7% COLA; first full year without the pandemic boost
FY2025 (Oct 2024 – Sep 2025) $975/month Minimal increase (~0.2%); OBBB passed in 2025
FY2026 (Oct 2025 – Sep 2026) $994/month ~2% increase; OBBB work requirements take effect; state cost-sharing finalized for 2028

The biggest disruption in recent years was the end of Emergency Allotments in 2023 — when pandemic-era supplement payments ended, some households that had received the maximum saw their regular benefit drop to a fraction of that amount.

Looking Ahead: FY2027 SNAP Benefits

FY2027 runs October 1, 2026 through September 30, 2027. USDA will announce the official new maximum allotments in late summer 2026, based on June 2026 Thrift Food Plan (TFP) costs — the same formula used every year.

What to expect: Food-at-home inflation has been running roughly 1–2% in early 2026. That typically translates to a similar SNAP COLA adjustment. The table below shows estimated FY2027 benefit amounts at both ends of that range. I’ll update this page with official figures as soon as USDA publishes them (usually August–September 2026).

Household Size FY2026 Max Est. FY2027 (+1%) Est. FY2027 (+2%)
1 person$298~$301~$304
2 people$546~$551~$557
3 people$785~$793~$801
4 people$994~$1,004~$1,014
5 people$1,183~$1,195~$1,207
6 people$1,421~$1,435~$1,449
7 people$1,571~$1,587~$1,602
8+ people$1,791+~$1,809+~$1,827+

OBBB note: The One Big Beautiful Bill prohibits USDA from structurally reevaluating the Thrift Food Plan until October 1, 2027. This means FY2027 benefits will rise only via the standard annual COLA — no structural reassessment like the 2021 Biden-era revision that raised benefits 21%. The upside: benefits can still increase. The downside: they can’t be boosted above inflation via a TFP redesign.

I go to stores that have BOGO deals (buy one get one free) to stretch my Amazing $23 a month in food stamps. (Sarcasm)
I have had to start supplementing my food by stopping at food banks or churches who hand out food once a week. I appreciate what they do but eating nothing but canned food is not good for you. You can only eat so much beans and corn without messing up your gut.

  2. Starving seniors do vote. We all paid taxes too. Government profiteers can give themselves a raise in their public service jobs. What a joke to seniors who are now old and hungry in America.

    1. Diane Thompson

It’s not fair seniors have to eat too we eat just as much as the rest of the people if not more

    2. ADRIAN Satterfield

You are absolutely right. Wake up America.

I’m very tired, I got 40 dollars on my cost of living on my ssdi check. And I’ve lost all my food stamps I’ve had my pip raised and my rent went up all because I got 40 more dollars on my ssdi check. and now I’m getting close to 200 dollars also removed from ssdi check because I make to much now in ohio for the saving Medicare plan

Does anyone realize that I’m only going to be bringing in ,1000 dollars after they are done. And all the programs in ohio have raised my payments do metro did medicade did Medicare did food stamps did pip did. It was only 40 Dollars I got but because of Ohio rules I was at 1300 and now I’m only getting 1000
This doesn’t seem fat and I’m sick with kidney disease and have no food and can’t get to a good pantry . Also was on a special diet but have money to buy the fruits and vegetables I need. I’m giving up I can’t help myself anymore I’ve broke my back in three places and was working part time like ,18hourd every two weeks but of course the government is freaking out about me working and have already taken anything extra away. I can’t even pay for toilet paper.this is not right and it isn’t helping me to get well but instead has made me sicker

    1. Michelle Carr

I have a Question for you. Where in the Bible does it state if a person doesn’t work he doesn’t eat!? And another thing. I’m a widow of a Viet Nam Vet Who was Sprayed with the Pesticide Agent Orange.. I. .Since you Brought the Bible and Your God into this Reply on who gets food stamps so they can eat. My Lord is a Loving Lord. No one should pull Judgement on anyoneI I also feel that your Religious remarks are Unjustified Who are you. to deny food to anyone? THAT THE PROBLEM IN THIS COUNTRY There are too many people like you! For one You must be on govt aid yourself. So maybe you should be denued Govt Alitment due to the fact . You don’t know how to Speak Right and You can’t spell. Many like you would say To deny you everything. Because you didn’t take the time to read the Books That were given to you,!! Your a hypocrite. On one hand You perceive yourself to be a Good Christen Woman. And ton the other hand You condemn people For wanting a better life. My ancestors came over here From Europe. They stood in line for food. The needed to eat in order to have the strength to work. SHAME ON YOU! ANOTHER BIBLE THUMPER HYPOCRITE! GO BACK TO SCHOOL AND Learn HOW TO READ. SO WHEN YOU QUOTE SOMETHING FROM THE BIBLE YOU KNOW WHAT THE HECK YOUR TALKING Period. .

      1. DK Campbell

I must somewhat agree with you. God said, love the Sinner hate THE sin…treat everyone the same is what I believe in…..

    2. I am having a hard time for direct letter. I agree with you. All these billions sending out for war in another country and we have food wàr here in America. Alot will go hungry funding another country. Congerss has to reevaluate their priorities

      1. Diane Thompson

Yes and charity begins at home you always take your home first before you reaching out to help someone else that’s what the United States is not doing they’re always helping another country and here we are with nothing and then the other country turns on us and wants to have a war what kind of mess is that.

    3. Emily P

What’s embarrassing Paula is that you cannot spell the word embarrassed. You don’t understand how much everything costs these days it’s not the 1990’s anymore where things were easy! And the price of food pretty much everything was less and you could have a stay at home mom and a dad who works. Coming from a house owner with with three kids. One bring an infant. Formula is close to 30$ a can! For a small can! This helps us so much and helps to feed my kids and my husband and I both work! So who is being lazy in this situation? Who is using the government in this situation? Stop your stereotyping and start to think man I’m really blessed that I’m not on this program because it doesn’t work out that way for everyone sweet heart. And like I said I husband and I work FULL TIME TO PROVIDE FOR OUR CHILDREN AND ITS STILL NOT ENOUGH!!!!

      1. Jon Lippincott

        Dear, Dear Emily P.
I suggest that you stop telling others to learn to spell.
Your spelling is not much better than those people that you condemn and demand they learn to spell.
The real issue in your composition is, you don’t know basic grammar and punctuation rules and how they are applied to modern America English. Grammar and punctuation must be utilized in order for the reader to grasp the intent of the author. A lack of either of the two skills can make any attempts at writing moot. Grammar, puntuation, as well as spelling are demanded when attempting to communicat effectively.
So Emily, I suggest that you return to school and take several years of English GRAMMAR & PUNCTUATION. You won’t have time to condemn others due to your lack in those skills.
Your composition is nearly unreadable. I believe that you try to put the spotlight on other peoples horrible writing in order to remove potential crticism away from your feeble attempts to do the same.

    4. Yukon Moosedick

The government does offer free English language education. You should take advantage of those services.

      1. Tamilong

  4. I’m 65 and I only get 914. from s.s and my food stamps are 172 a month. How do I live on 172. a month. When I don’t have any money left on s.s. ? Live in Florida….

    1. Malissa Bogar

I’m on suvivors and get 1008.00 and my food stamps are 23.00 ! Worked well my life for NOTHING !

      1. Rough stories….hoping for some additional support in the new year.

      2. Dovie Barton

I agree… Ive had two heart attacks in the last year and 1/2 and im working for $8 an hour because i cant go over that and keep my medicaid which i need desperately…My snap benefits are dropping from $281 a month to $23!! How do they expect someone to live on that???? They did not cut Their Pay!!!

        1. Kathy Smith

It doesn’t make sense. If we have billions to send to other countries to help them, then we should have the money to provide help for we, the people of the United States, who should come first! It’s like starving your own child, but feeding your next door neighbor’s child. Let’s take care of the needy here. The needy seniors. The disabled. The people who are just going through hard times who are really struggling and going through financial hardship. It’s good to provide for the kids summer lunches, but what about the rest of us? How much does $23 a month go, especially with food prices being the highest it’s ever been in history. To keep taking away programs and funds for the needy is wrong when billions are being sent to other countries to help them. I believe in helping others, but we don’t have billions to give if we cannot provide for the American people.

      3. Diane Nieves

That’s a joke I only get 13.00…am very hungry and this is totally disgusting…I’m American…worked my whole life and because im.not working right now. And get 272.00 a week on unemployment….im.barely living…

  5. Kathy Lord

To the man “Mike”, who felt the rights of US born citizens should override the rights of “foreigner”, please. This world needs less bigots. This discussion was about food benefits ending. Not a discussion about borders. A stupid line drawn in the sand, depending on which side you are born on, should decide if a child goes hungry. Stop it. Would you want your child to cry because they are hungry? Not kind. I don’t care where you are born.

    1. yall do nothing but keep me scared, its just me, i worked my hole life , and depend on this little,,, i was smart when we were geting extra, i bought can food, , and fruit , it was nice, to have ,

  7. My husband and I both have cancer, TX has decided we inly need $122 a month for food stamps, I am fully disabled and Social Security says my husband who has Stage 4 Cancer only gets SSI, between the 2 of us we live on less than 10k a YEAR. I know others who are fully capable of working but do not and get over $600 a month in food stamps, and don’t even get me started on the illegals coming over here having 3 or 6 kids and the moms saying I don’t know where baby daddy is and get over 2k a month in food stamps, free housing, free child care, and whatever else they can get but yet that baby daddy working somewhere getting paid under the table making 2 to 3 k a month or more and Americans who worked their butts off from 16 till whenever paid all that money into the govt and we are the ones who go hungry and homeless, call me a racist and I will invite you to my door to say it to my face. There are people who come here and start their own business and do not pay taxes for first 7 years and still get food stamps and free housing so again tell me why we as Americans who have busted a$$ working all of our lives be the ones to do without? My mom is 72 a widow and can’t get food stamps, but when my dad was alive omg they got a whole $16 dollars a month in food stamps. Oh and my mom and I are both Type 2 Diabetics, we can’t eat healthy be healthy with what little we get. How are we supposed to survive on what little we get from SS and then next to nothing or nothing in food stamps?

    1. i am not positive about what it is for your state-but look into special needs programs based on your health.
there are programs where you can get more SNAP benefits based on your health-if you have special diet requirements based on your health. your dr needs to fill out paperwork, and your husbands drs too….
is there some kind of infoline in your state? also-contact the local govt in your town-sometimes there are funds/programs available thru your local govt that arent advertised….
if i think of anything else i will reach out to you thru here-ok?
      i hope this info helps

    2. I totally agree with everything you said. My husband is disabled and I’m retired after 50 years of working almost 50 -60 hours a week. I worked week ends and holidays without the benefits of overtime or holiday pay. Refugees, The Invaders, Illegals and the LAZY are being given what should belong to those of us who broke our backs making a home, food, medical care, schooling, taxes. Nobody gave us a damn thing except bills in our mailbox. I feel 100% like you and so do millions of other people. I’m furious seeing people in a checkout line, 4-5 kids hanging on the grocery cart, snott and dirty clothes, with boxes of cereal, junk food, frozen dinners for the kids while mama getting steak and lobster for her and whoever she hooks up with that day.

      1. Felicita S.

Wow, what judgement. People don’t decide if will live off fat of the land. With 5 children, could u imagine the cost of childcare? Even if u are from another planet, if u have children. We should feed. Ever sit at public assistance office for up to 4 to 5 hours w child in tow. And treated less than human. I am retired n pay taxes n get 23 in fstamps which ends with COLA. No sec 8 or senior, disabled home. Am disabled. People from other countries should be allowed to work and pay taxes, as they await citizenship. U should see living conditions of the poor.

      2. Amen.. u r so right 100% God bless u both

    3. Yzavela Narvaez

Hello, Gypsy…you are 1000% right! How dare the government say they’re cutting food stamp allotments to those who had an increase in SS benefits, I mean that money that my mom receives pays for all the bills and there’s absolutely nothing left for her to buy herself food! Even our Section 8 voucher program was raised $200 more on our rent so how are we supposed to afford food? I work part time as a nurse and my money goes toward my bills plus whatever I can help my mother pay, so I don’t have enough either in food stamps, especially since our diets are different so I hope the new congress as of 2023 makes better decisions for the benefits of us AMERICANS and excuse me for saying this but…to hell with the illegals that are coming here, taking everything from us and ruining our country! None of them look like they were starving coming over the border but that’s another time for another conversation, so all I’ll say is that they must’ve been eating pretty damn good in their poorer countries and they’re getting $2,000 in benefits?! Unbelievable! I wish you the best for you and your family!

      1. Nita Thetford

So very too. They get a lot
        We suffer

    4. John Cvetkovich

      amen girl! so so right….

    5. Ari09ale13

Lol, you should look into it very carefully before you start talking. ILLEGALS DONT GET HELP!! They only get help if there kids are born in the US. Also the ones that claim there baby daddy’s are missing are girls born in the US. So your right let’s not get started with this discussion because you are going to loose. And maybe you should be so judgmental and prey to GOD that you and your husband get over cancer. I KNOW ALOT OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE CANCER AND STILL WORK!!!!

      1. Maybe you should pay more attention these people are telling it like it is. You do not know what you are talking about. I am married to a Mexican woman we did her greencard we bust our butts we dont drive a $100,000 truck and suv live in a $800,000 house and collect $3,000 a month in snap. We know we see it we did 2022 taxes paid in $4200 in federal these people are getting back $22,000 talk your BS you must be one of them .

      1. Robin Sizemore

you can apply on the Ohio medicade website for food card.
Good luck, they are not answering phones in the Xenia Ohio office.
I tried several times last week, I know they are closed today.

  9. Lou Ann Soppe

State of Iowa took away the emergency allotment for food stamps. Food banks are having trouble keeping up with the over whelming number of people needing food. Our Governor Reynolds does not care. People are going homeless. Shelters are over flowing at the seams. What has our Governor Reynolds done for Iowan? Beside take the help people need away. I would love to know what she used the money for the rescue plan. She hasn’t help any Iowans.

    1. Sorry to hear. I am 85 and now in CT where I live the additional SNAP benefits ends this month February 2023. I live on Social Security and will get $146.00 each month in SNAP benefits. That would not buy food here for 1 week let alone a month.
I feel for the people of UKRAINE but we are spending MILLIONS on them while seniors here in the US starve.

      1. Kathy Smith

Actually, the United States is spending not millions, but billions to help other countries. But they keep cutting programs for the most needy in America. The people here who are financially struggling the most. We should come first.

  12. I’m 68 yrs old worked until I was 66 with bad back spasms for last 3 yrs of work but not qualif for being disabled now I’m on social security of 1,800 a month which I know is a lot more then a lot of people but I also have a 800 a month mortgage 2,000 prop tax bill 300 a month electric bill living in New England and car insurance, water bill , only internet can’t afford tv and I can’t get any help because my social security is to much and 170 taken out for medicare part B which I’m going to have to cancel soon and just not go to the doctor anymore I can’t go back to work by back can’t take it anymore, so I pay my bills set in pain and eat very little and Just to think I couldn’t wait to retire, can’t afford to go anywhere do anything and have about 20 left to buy food half way though the month

    1. Look into an HMO Advantage plan for Medicare and SNAP might be able to help.
      I’m in the same boat.

  13. It’s really disgraceful how they don’t clearly explain that in many if not most states, for those over 60 or disabled, if their income is below 200% of the federal poverty level then they have no maximum asset limit for SNAP. As far as I know from researching it today, the only US state where that’s clearly stated in plain English on their SNAP website is California. Because of that, I missed out on 7 years of SNAP and a $9.95 a month internet plan that I was paying full price for and lost around $7,500 or more in benefits over that time period, including the $250 minimum monthly benefit most single people got during the pandemic (it was discontinued in my state) until I finally figured it out today.

    1. And my full price internet plan was $75 a month including renting a modem that’s free with the $9.95 a month plan. That’s something people should keep in mind when they don’t get a lot in food stamps, that you can get discounts on internet service, 1/2 price Amazon Prime membership, etc.

      1. How do you get 1/2 price Prime? I’m paying full price.

        1. Contact customer let know your getting snap benefits or Medicaid or Medicare and upload proof

        2. Shana Culbert

If you have a foodshare card you automatically qualify for Prime at half price.I been paying half price for over a year and it’s a godsend.Especially when it’s, at times, very difficult to get out due to mobility issues. Also, check on the free trial for WalMart Plus.(free shipping directly to your door & curbside pickup are most convenient!) It’s only 30 days but EVERYTHING and ANYTHING that can help nowadays! Also, in some areas, Medicare Advantage Plans help with “Healthy Food” and “OTC” Benefits so definitely look into those. In my area, if you go to the local Aging & Disability Resource Center(ADRC) and set up an appt. they can go over EVERY little thing you qualify for and again, nowadays ANYTHING HELPS!Good luck & hope this helps some as well as finds you safe and healthy!

        3. Katy K.

You have to sign up your SNAP card on their membership page. Once they send you a verification for your PIN number, they’ll cut your Prime membership in half and also you can then use your card for eligible SNAP items!!

    2. I’m a retired Social Worker, CSW. On food stamps now because stuff happens. :(. I used to help people apply for benefits. It was an unfair mess back then – much worse now. Even the convoluted application process is difficult for a lot of people with very limited resources and little ability to self advocate. I got mail saying I was dropped from the program because I missed an interview call, spent hours and hours on hold with DHS trying to reschedule it (I’d sent the redetermination form with all sorts of scanned required document in on time) because of a massive red tape call center overload mess on their end. I sent emails to state and local offices, and finally got the (unscheduled) call. I was in the bathroom and had to scramble frantically to get to the phone just in time. Easy to understand what happened to people who don’t have a working cell phone, or are unable to get on a (VERY buggy and complicated) computer website, or figure out how to send scanned documents, etc.. Soon they’ll be ending the pandemic SNAP payments, which actually helped, and I’ll be back down to about enough to buy 4 days worth of cheap food again, anyway. They ostensibly make it all so difficult to avoid fraud, we get that, but all Social Workers also know that feeding poor people and getting disabled people adequate support, etc., etc., isn’t anyone’s top campaign slogan. It’s hard and unfair on purpose. The elderly get hit hardest. Bad stuff isn’t supposed to happen to us if we worked hard. It does though, even in a blue, blue state like mine.

  14. Glenda McCarty

I was wondering if Kansas will be getting extra SNAP benefits in August and September?

    1. Carolyn Bratton

Hi are you by any chance related to Ray McCarty?? He was such a dear friend of mine.

  15. Sandra M tuten

amen its been nice getting the emergecy alottment but now its going to be hard living on 20 a month why they took them away when gas and groceries has went sky high but maybe will get by.

    1. My husband and I only get 195 dollars a month for food. I don’t know how we can budget in this economy on that amount of money.

      1. Sandra Novak

They have 1.19 a day per person, who the heck can eat on 1.19 a day, this is just disgusting!!

      2. Well me and my wife only receive $53 a month on our Food Stamps this a load of ! How in the hell are we supposed to make it on that! Yet illegals are over here drawing $600 to $700 a month or more because they keep popping out children! I’m not saying people/children shouldn’t eat but they are over here illegally and didn’t pay into the system like the rest of us has! And they’re able to draw more in FS then most of us are! So me and my wife go hungry alot of times because we no longer have children so why are we being punished! And they wonder why most Americans despise illegals it’s nothing to do with being racist it’s because of this ! And no wonder why American Parents have resorted to stealing they have to worry about feeding their families while illegals get to eat high on the hog! There’s a special place in hell for these agencies doing this to us!

        1. Stephan hobbs

The fact that you are applying for or receiving SNAP has no bearing on your immigration status. You sound ignorant and need to do some reasarch before you post incorrect, hate-filled messages. Every individual has to comply and meet the programs criteria. So if someone is getting more food stamps than you are receiving, then they are in need of more assistance. Then you justify theft as if it’s ok or not as worse than someone receiving more assistance. It’s people like you that’s serperating and tearing down this country.
WAKE UP AMERICA and change the ignorant.

        2. What a narrow minded response. I wonder why you ONLY receive $53 a month. Guess you should be an illegal then. Do you research before you write or speak.

        3. No foreigner should be helped above any American citizen. If foreigners want to become American citizens they need to do it the proper legal way. Correct me if im wrong but it takes 7 years for a foreigner to become an American citizen. Just walking across the southern border doesn’t give any person the rights that home born Americans get to have. Your right my fellow American, you and your wife should be the ones get the $600-$700 a month for food.

        4. Your so ignorant do your homework before you run your racist mouth !!

        5. Johnssister514

I see your points very clearly. I wish that I had an answer for you. It has really gotten to the point that skipping a meal everyday and being so careful at the supermarket. I myself have a specific diet that I need to follow. It’s either follow the diet or, be in a lot of pain.

        6. Don’t you dare speak for me. I get $40 a month in food stamps, can’t afford anything. I get a whole $800 in disability benefits each month. I usually have about $40 left after I pay my bills. For the month. But I’m not so low, so fucking selfish and racist as to say it’s because of immigrants. It’s because politicians don’t give a shit about poor people. Blaming immigrants is the oldest, lamest, most ignorant response ever. Take a look in the mirror, you suck.

        7. I agree. it’s disgusting there taking away all of our food stamps who can live on $23 a month we can’t get out and work if we’re disabled this country has went to shit excuse my French I don’t understand how they can sit back and let this happen as it is people worry do I pay my rent or eat this month and now they’re gonna do this . How can they sleep at night?

        8. You realize that a social security number is required to get assistance, right? Illegals don’t have social security numbers, so how are they getting all this assistance you claim they’re getting??

        9. I get 1196 dollars on disability I got a raise. I was getting 1101 dollars with the raise me and my wife are disabled she has applied for disability now we got 279 in food stamps now it dropped to 179 that’s took a 100 dollars off food stamps and my raise is only 95 dollar how you take any 100 away and give me 95 back and inflation food everything has gone up but they don’t go up on income for food stamps they taking away more than the raise and still do no changes to food stamps and now we worse than we was wow government got there raises but we get a raise and they taking all our benefits we need to protest this cause if there is any conspiracy its in the government look at all presidents vice presidents they all in trouble now they crooked we need to protest about it it’s wrong and to my utility company try to steal my stimulus money for power I confronted theme they said you don’t go by your power bill I said what since I was a kid my mom went by the power bill I said I’ve never heard such and 2weeks later they put the stimulus money back on my power bill now I cought theme stilling stimulus money so I didn’t go any further I was going to go to low income help for power gas called that help pay power and heat lihmp but I didn’t I should have tell me something have you ever heard that you don’t go by your power bill me either now Biden gave the governor in your state permission to give more stimulus to help governor McMaster in south Carolina said no when other governor states gave stimulus money now inflation went up 4 times higher I never thought I never see eggs 25 dollars ham 8 something something got to be done now if your husband get SSDI and wife gets ssi your wife don’t get the 914 ssi payment she gets only 195 dollars how in the hell you get that.

      3. Try $23 a month!!! With the prices of food nowadays we seniors will be starving! This is when we should be living our best lives but we can’t. This new Congress is just as bad as the old one! Why is it they always want to cut Social Security and Medicare, when they don’t have to worry they’ll get paid regardless. I’d love to see some of these social workers when they retire!

        1. $23 is the minimum SNAP payment (for 1 or 2 person households) and I agree is way too little to live on. Equivalent to 5 basic coffee’s at Starbucks

    2. Laura Milagros

7/25/22 If only the comments on this site could be sent to EVERY Congressperson & Pres Biden & VP Harris with the assurance they would actually READ THEM. The ppl who make the laws are ALL WEALTHY & are waaaaay out of touch with most Americans. From my perspective, MOST Americans are actually very low income, very poor or in actual
poverty. IMO, 90% of America’s problems are based upon unacceptably low wages & unbridled capitalism & corporate greed. most ppl live “hand to mouth.” Due to substandard wages, 1 emergency can destroy both single ppl & familirs – in spite of both adults working! If ppl had a MONTHLY LIVING WAGE INCOME ($30/HR MINIMIM WAGE!!!) & there was also a mandatory MONTHLY BASIC UNIVERSAL INCOME in place ($2500-$3000/mo) for those who temporarily can’t work & rents/mortgages were fixed to be at no more than 30% for 2 or more who make less than $80,000/yr & a single person who makes less than $40,000/yr … maybe ppl could sleep at night without a black cloud constantly over them & actually enjoy life!
And don’t get me started on the cruel joke known as Soc Sec – SSD or SSR. Americans should get the HIGHEST WAGE THEY EVER MADE AS THEIR MONTHLY BENEFIT or the BASIC UNIVERSAL INCOME AMOUNT – whichever is greater! America is the only country I’m aware of that punishes it’s chronically I’ll & disabled (SSD recipients 18-65) & it’s senior retirees ( SSR recipients 66-100+). I’ve known so many Americans who were middle class when working & then went right into instant poverty the minute they got their very FIRST Social Security check! MY wealthy aunt & uncle were such persons & my middle class parents also were subjected to this. Since 1999, I am also such a perso.. NOT HAPPY! I’ve been forced to avail myself of EVERY possible social aid: a tax credit apt where I only pay 30% of my income towards rent,(Section 8 Program is dead in CA), Medi-Cal as my secondary payer & of course SNAP. The only way I can barely make ends meet is to BORROW MONEY from a payday loan place EVERY MONTH! In CA the limit is only $255 per month.
Not enough!! If I could borrow up to $500 EVERY MONTH, I’d have money left over for the many many things that I’ve had to neglect & let go that need fixed or repairing. I could SAVE for emergencies & maybe have some money to go out & have a little fun. You know, like normal ppl who are lucky enough to have a living wage income! And … I could actually sleep at night without so much financial STRESS! IMO, since 2003, America has become a country only for the wealthy.

      1. Rosemary Alvarez

I totally agree! Me and my husband are both disabled to do no fault of our own and we get about $2300 a month. We can’t get food stamps or Medicaid BECAUSE WE’RE MARRIED…..We make $500 too much a year. But if we were separated we could EVERYTHING….We have been married for 40 years and thinks it’s wrong to treat us like that but the girl who gets pregnant out of wedlock has the Government kissing her ass and she gets anything she wants…Do you think something is wrong here

        1. Johnssister514

Now this is what makes me angry. Just because you are married should not be a reason to punish you! Just say that a single person earns 1, 500 a month and gets 100$ a month for food. Then a married couple earning 3,000 a month should get 200$ for food. These are just figures I pulled out of my head. The point is that married people should be able to get double than a single person does if they make the same money. I hope I have made my point.

      2. The sad truth is politicians really do not care about their constituents. It has always been about enriching themselves. As far as illegal migrants go…I do not fault any looking for a better life if that is truly the case. With the border wide open you just have to follow the money. Does anyone really believe that individuals in our government are not also making money on this as well as the cartels?
If many in power were not profiting from this it would not be happening. As for the average amercan
footing the bill, our government could care less.

      3. Yes she is right we pay taxes all our life immigrants get tax free and grants to buy business we can’t why you suck lady yes they need to pay taxes from day one period and it’s politics republican and democrats they all are wrong the president gives all our money to other countries witch is why we are in so much debt billions gave to most countries are from us that’s why we can’t get out of debt period I vote for no one because money and people are evil they like for you to think they helping you but obviously they not and it’s other faring people to gets grants and buy gas station and charge us more for our products they charge you to use your debit card this Mexican that lives across the street runs his mouth about the government well go home to Mexico where you belong.

    3. I’m in PA. I worked until unable for multiple health issues. My SSDI is 1,600/mo. You’d think I make six figures. I appreciate any/all I get, but I agree with everyone’s post so far. I’ve changed from my liberal ways. The world has changed. If we can’t take care of our elderly and sick, we shouldn’t be giving handouts to others coming into this country. I never received or took handouts until I was homeless. AND I worked and paid into social security, so it’s not a handout. I worked through many health issues, when others wouldn’t have. The emergency food allotment was a blessing. Now, it will be cut and I’ll receive a whole $16/mo or so. The increase in cost of EVERYTHING has increased and the COLA has not even come close to catching up!! I don’t do anything or go anywhere. People don’t understand when they suggest I do things for my health, that almost everything costs money. It gets very depressing. I don’t like to complain. I know many have it worse. I pray for everyone struggling here.

  16. I totally agree my mom elderly and there’s some young folks never worked And are able bodied want work, but get more benefits.i think the system is a mess they need to look at each case with reasonable ethics.peaple are hurting to feed their families and each case is different.they need immediate help.

    1. Yvonne Rose

You are so right!!! I am 63 with custody of my 5 grandchildren I fight every day for something. I get food stamps and insurance for them, but as far as anything else I cant get help with like housing..The system is broken…good luck to yr mom

      1. Jennifer

Income limits need to go up too. My husband and I did nothing different, but inflation caused mortgage, taxes, insurance, food, ect, to raise to unaffordable amounts. Now trying to feed 7 people on $80 dollars a month!? But our income is “too high” to get any help. Can those who got an extra grand a month in snap benefits, durring pandemic, sell some food to us? We’re starving

        1. Donna Jones

Hello there. If your income is too high to get any help it sounds like you need to decrease your bills. A person can down size and live on alot less than you think. Modern conveniences like cable tv…internet and cell phones can be done away with and this will reduce your monthly expenses but may not be as fun. I was in the same situation. Once I sat down and figured up my bills I realized that I was living above my means with the prices going up. I also had a friend who was also struggling move in with us and she helps with bills. It is not my ideal way to live but things are getting bad and the main thing is food shelter and clothing for our families right now. Pull out those dvds and board games…spend more time as a family. Buy in bulk and cook meals at home instead of eating out. It sucks but its only going to get worse unfortunately.

        2. Check out ACP programs for internet, tv, and phone I think xfinity is participating. If you are receiving snap you qualify. One less bill.

      2. We should be going after these people in offices in government these peoples tell us there’s is not any money the United States have a lot of money, if they stop these peoples from steal money than everyone can live comfortably it not the snap benefits it these steal big politicians in offices why do you think they letting the rates going up and food so high they can stop this they want it seem to you even to pay these companies to bill your bills, and late charges car insurance you them all this money when you have an accident they don’t want to pay you, these the peoples we should be going after not the poor peoples who food stamps and financial aid they want force these things, not the billionaires that sent all money over sea to banks, let poor peoples along go after big who really take from us,

    2. Johnssister514

Mary, I agree with you 100%! Our elderly population should not have to worry where their next meal is coming from. I wish cases could be done 1 by 1 rather than being all grouped together. The needs of the elderly are different than those of most younger who are able bodied.

  17. Maria Russell

Are we getting a raise for January 2022?

  18. Food is up 40% (2022) SNAP is up 1.19 per day.
Slap in the face so they can say benefits were increased!
Do they base the cost of living on the price of lemons?
My rent went from $800mo to $1700mo since the pandemic.
