When Will The $300 Extra Weekly Unemployment Start Being Paid in My State? News and Updates on Payment With PUA and PEUC Claims

[2022 Update] The $300 supplementary payment made in 2020 and 2021, ended in all states on September 6th, 2021 (some states ended it earlier).

Unless claims are in the adjudication process, At this stage all retroactive payments (including those for PUA and PEUC) have also been processed and no new payments are being made.

An extension of unemployment benefits, including the $300 payment, is not likely for 2022 and beyond unless economic conditions deteriorate significantly. I will post updates as they come to light.

____________

The latest (ARPA) stimulus package was passed by Congress and signed into law by the President Biden on March 11th, 2021. It includes further extensions to pandemic unemployment programs (PUA and PEUC) and an extra $300 weekly FPUC supplementary UI payment. The latest supplementary $300 payment will be paid over 25 weeks starting from week of March 15th, 2021 to September 6th, 2021. This is in addition to the previous extension covering 11 weeks from December 27th, 2020 to March 14th, 2021. Eligible payments will be made retroactively in cases where state unemployment agencies face delays with rolling out system updates to process these payments.

The $300 weekly unemployment payment will be made above and beyond any regular state or enhanced federal unemployment payment and require eligible claimants to certify regularly according to their state UI agency guidelines. Claimants will need to be eligible for at least $1 of an underlying unemployment benefit to receive the $300 supplemental payment under the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) program.

You do not need to take any additional action to receive this supplemental payment. States are slowly rolling out these payments for different groups of claimants starting with those already getting regular UI and state extended benefits (active claimants). Those who have exhausted benefits prior to the extensions being rolled out or new claimants will only be able to get payments once their underlying claim is approved.

I will update dates in the table below as states implement these guidelines and start making making actual payments. Please leave a comment if you find updated or incorrect information reflected in the table and I will review/update accordingly. Details on why this payment could be delayed due to PEUC or PUA roll-outs are discussed in this video.

State unemployment departments and agencies will be responsible for disbursing these benefit payments, similar to the $300 LWA and earlier $600 FPUC supplementary unemployment programs. Given the many challenges and various payment issues across states with earlier supplementary UI benefit programs, I expect this to take some time to be rolled out and require retroactive payments to get claimants caught up. So stay tuned and subscribe to get the latest updates. You can also see this $300 FPUC video for more details on this program.

Lost Wages Assistance (LWA) program – Now Expired

The temporary $300 unemployment benefit under the Lost Wages Assistance (LWA) program funding has now been paid in all states who participated in the program. The program expiry date was December 27th, 2020 and this means that any new or retroactive payments under this program will NO longer be paid out going forward. This has been replaced by the new $300 FPUC payment discussed above.

This supplementary payment was a temporary, but much needed benefit for unemployed or underemployed workers who lost the supplementary $600 FPUC weekly payment at the end of July. There was a lot of confusion on when the $300 would actually be paid by state UI agencies which led to the creation of the LWA state tracker table below, which shows the payment status and actual or estimated future date claimants can expect their first weekly unemployment payment, if eligible. You can also see the 1000+ comments from readers that share their experiences around the LWA payment, including some very useful tips if you are facing issues getting your $300 LWA payment.

All states that applied and were approved by FEMA were only initially awarded three weeks of funding – covering the weeks of August 1st, 8th and August 15th.  After that, states and territories will need to submit a Lost Wages Additional Week Request one week at a time for funding to pay claims for subsequent weeks. However any additional funding is subject to the $44 billion budget that is available for this program and it is almost certain that funding will run out before the December 27th expiry of this program, unless Congress approves additional funding via a formal UI benefits extension.

In fact, at this stage approved states will only get a maximum of 6 weeks of funding (weeks covering August 1st to September 5th) for the LWA program per recent FEMA guidance to state labor and unemployment agencies that have already made several weeks of payments. Several states which started making the $300 payments earlier than other states have already been notified that their LWA funding allotment has run out and no additional funding beyond will be approved. Note however that some states like Florida will only be applying for and paying 4 weeks of LWA benefits, since they didn’t meet some of the LWA program qualification rules (details here).

Payment Start date is when the state actually started processing LWA payments OR is the estimated date of the first payment processing based on available information. Note: Due to bank processing delays, it can take 2 to 4 days after the noted dates for benefits to hit your bank account or debit card. Please see links to more information in the table or your state UI website for specific payment status. If you find any mistakes or have updates, please leave a comment below and I will update table to help others.

What if my state has started making payments, but I don’t see my $300?

Claimants in most states do not need to take any action to receive the new benefits available in this program. The additional benefits will be added automatically for all claimants who are eligible and have certified for the relevant week. Their self-certification will ask them to confirm they were unemployed or partially unemployed due to COVID-19. See more FAQs on this here.

However if your state has started making payments and you haven’t received payments you need to first confirm you are eligible. This means you must be receiving at least $100 in weekly unemployment benefit payments (pre tax and before any other deductions). This includes claimants receiving any type of regular unemployment insurance benefits as well as those receiving PUA and PEUC benefits.

If you are eligible and you have not received a payment in several weeks then you will need to contact your state UI agency to ensure the claim has been processed and is not being held up due to fraud, missing/incorrect payment details or due to a weekly or bi-weekly certification issue.

See more in this article on Why Your $300 Unemployment Has Not Been Paid or Delayed.

My state has been approved and the LWA tracker says payments are being made, but when will I get my payment?

The tracker provides an actual or estimated date for the when the LWA payments start being processed by the state. If a start date has been officially published by the state, you will see the status updated to “paying now.” Otherwise it is estimate based on FEMA guidelines or if confirmed by several sources online. However this date (week start date in many cases) may not be the same as the date the actual UI payment will hit your back account or debit card. The actual date you may see the money could be several days after the official state processing start date and tied to your normal UI payment cycle. You will need to confirm via your UI online portal or state agency for the exact payment date.

Also note the payment date is generally the date when payment starts. In many states, due to volume of people being paid, claims are paid out over several days (in batches, based on SSN or First/Last Name). And given processing by banks to disburse these payments via direct deposit or debit cards can take 1 to 2 days, it may take several days after the first payment date for you to receive your payment.

I got my $900 back payment but no payments after that. Why?

The first state LWA grant approved by FEMA was only for three weeks. Hence the $900 payment (3 x $300) is what most people are seeing first, less any taxes or withholding. Subsequent $300 payments are approved and paid on a week by week basis. This includes retroactive payments which will also be staggered. Rest assured if you are eligible for past weeks you will get your payment.

Also the maximum number of weeks that can be paid under the LWA program is 6, which means the maximum payment in most states is $1800 (or $2400 if the state was paying $400 p/week). After the payment of 6 weeks, you will revert to what you were getting under existing unemployment programs.

I am got my first week of payments but not subsequent weeks.

Kristin asked, “My son just got his first payment for the weeks of 08/23 thru 08/29 and 08/30 thru 09/05. He got the extra $300 for the week of 08/23 – 08/29, but did not get the extra $300 for the week of 08/30 thru 09/05. We are in Texas. Do you know why he got it the first week, but not the second week?

Every week is processed separately by the state UI agency subject to FEMA funding. So you may be seeing some variability due to delays in approval, claim processing and eventual bank/debit card payment.

  1. Why does this table estimate SC for 9/20 when the official lwa tracker is still unknown? Where can I get the skew info that the columnist is getting?

    • NY DOL confirmed they have released ~$1.9 billion in LWA funds to 2.26 million NYers. But looks like an issue with their processor – KeyBank. Despite assurances their system could handle the load, KeyBank was unable to process payments overnight on 9/15. KeyBank now says payments have been processed & will reach bank accounts by 4:30PM on Sep 18th at the latest

    Paris from California here AGAIN!!
Am I the only one that have not received their LWA funds? EDD has confirmed that they received my self certification form. This morning I received and email from them stating that I am potentially eligible to receive the LWA funds and to learn about eligibility visit the LWA site. I have done everything that I was supposed to do. Now I am so confused as to what’s going on right now.
    Stressing out in California.

    • Hi Tracey. I’ve read a couple of conflicting dates; including this site which is posted to have started processing on the 15th. But I read an article by a local news source saying that the first week was sent out on the 11th. The second week would be processed on the 17th and the third week processed on the 18th. This is extremely confusing. Not sure if these dates are only processing dates or if some have actually been paid out already. Can’t seem to get a straight answer from anyone. I receive regular UI benefits and have read that those receiving PUA are receiving theirs first. There’s bound to be someone with a straight answer???

      • I know! I can’t find a definitive or reliable answer anywhere. I don’t do my claim until next week. I have tried the online chat, calling and e-mailing with no response. I know they are overwhelmed, but you would think one could get an answer.

  5. Andy,
I’m curious of where you got that NJ estimated date is Sept 20th? State DOL just said that expect to have program NEXT MONTH and will contact people on how to claim LWA. Considering NJ has just left people to starve and hardly anyone at unemployment even answers phones..not sure how they plan on contacting ANYONE that collects UI. So just wondering where u got the estimated date?

    Reply
    • It was based on their approval date by FEMA + 4 weeks to get this in place (which is far more than most states). But looks like they are going to be delayed further based on what I am hearing and per a recent tweet, “NJDOL expects to have programming in place next month to distribute $300/wk from the FEMA LWA program. New Jersey has been approved for 5 weeks of benefits. Eligible claimants unemployed due to Covid-19 will be contacted once a process is in place on how to claim the funds.”

Thanks for letting me know and I have updated table. This is frustration for NJ residents given most other states have already started paying.

      • I just want to state that NJ is the WORST. I see people commenting on “ONLY” receiving 300 or 900 of the LWA. And NJ isnt even set up yet to make ANY payment. Murphy has really let us all down. I was wondering how he sleeps at night..then it hit me. He doesnt worry about not having food or being evicted..he doesnt worry about not having a job to return to. Hes set. So of course he sleeps soundly!

      • I see u put early october for NJ. So it that just a guess? Since NJ says October, they could mean Oct 30th right? Frustrating isnt even the right word to describe NJ. Jobs are gone.. No longer exist. And the meager 300 that every state seems to get 6 full weeks..we only get 5? How is that even possible when FEMA said 6 weeks? NJ is worst place to live. for some reason they couldnt afford to update the unemployment system AT ALL IN THE PAST 15 YEARS????

        Reply
        • Thats the update from the NJ DOL official twitter feed…early October. But could be anytime in October, but I would be shocked if they take till Oct 30th since most they were able to get the $600 FPUC out faster.

      • I got the 900.00 on September 15th. BUT I DIDN’T GET MY REGULAR 264.00 WEEKLY BENEFIT. IS IT TRUE THAT THERE IS ANOTHER ROUND OF 900.00 WHICH MAKES A TOTAL OF 18.00 .

        Reply
        • Yes. 6 weeks of total funding was approved in most states. So $900 more coming but may take some time to process as that was approved (by FEMA) subsequent to the first batch

  6. I am about to get my last regular UI payment and have never received a thing from ODJFS about PEUC!! Idk how any of this is supposed to work but I have read that they are supposed to send info about how to apply. I find that a little funny because they can’t even keep up with claims in general. So now I guess I am without any more payments at least in the near future because I’ll have to sit on hold when I call for idk how many hours. Oh joy. If anyone knows or has any info, it would be much appreciated. Thank you

  8. I think it’s all bullshit how is it that each state has enough to pay exactly however many people are unemployed when that number varies state to state and as soon as 6 payments are made the funds are depleted In every state does this mean certain states were granted a lot more money depending upon the population of each state because I doubt it so for me this all sounds like a bunch of smoke being blown up our ass they aren’t out of funds it’s just all they are willing to pay

  13. I live in Kentucky. When I first checked this page; Kentucky’s payment schedule showed the 13th of September and wasn’t paying out at that time. Now the official scheduled pay out date is: September 15th and the notation says: paying now. I’ve read that some in Kentucky have already received part of their payments starting on Monday September 14th. And from what I’m gathering; the ones who are receiving PUA unemployment are receiving their payments first and are also able to check their payment status to see the exact date that payments are going to hit their accounts. Seems that if you’re on regular unemployment the feature to see exact amount and deposit date is not available. I’m on regular unemployment benefits, due to covid. Every two weeks when I log on to claim my unemployment benefits; I answer a series of questions to determine my continued eligibility for unemployment. It is now Thursday September 17th and I haven’t received the first dollar of the extra $400 and I get direct deposit. So I can only speculate that I may receive some of it within the next few days or along with my benefit claim this Sunday September 20th. As for how Kentucky is going to pay out the retroactive benefit amount; they are paying it on a weekly basis and Not one lump sum like many other states. This website is not very informative when it comes to actually telling people how to self certify and when eligible people will receive their extra $400 unemployment benefits. I’ve read several comments concerning the self certification. Lots of people do not know what this means. I can only speculate that to self certify is the series of questions that you must answer every two weeks(for continued eligibility)when claiming your unemployment benefits. But there still remains the problem of an out dated website that should have been updated a long time ago so that claiming benefits, filing a claim or even getting on the website would not be a nervous breakdown experience as it is now. The phone system is just as bad since there is never anyone available to answer questions or give help where as the website does not. And most of this frustration could have been avoided had these state government website’s and phone system’s been kept up to date. So along with millions of others trying to harness their frustrations; I’ll continue to wait and pray that this money comes soon as we are facing extreme poverty.

Then got approval the email and mail I got started I was Approved from August 2nd thru money run out basically. But then when I went to certify after it was approved my dashboard only had wks Aug 29th and Sept 5th so I didn’t get unemployment back pay from Aug 2nd on which obviously I was expecting since I went almost a month with no payment. Since then I’ve been paid my normal 130 for the wks Aug 29th to today 16th but no LWA payments at all. My unemployment was filed back in March and was checked as being because of covid. But I wasnt sent and email or any kind of notice to check or somehow tell again it’s still because of same thing…Until tonight after searching all over trying to find something out I found a tucked away spot where i could verify again bc of covid. But I thought I didn’t have to do this if I was recieving regular UI because of covid back to March. The tracker you have has payments in Tennessee being made as of Aug 30th. But of course can’t get ahold of anyone and on the other almost afraid to just to postpone for me calling or something. Main question I suppose is has anyone else in Tennessee received money if so how much or just any related TN problems. Thanks

    • Likely to happen towards the end of the month or early October. Per the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce (SCDEW) is working on implementing the Lost Wages Assistance program. It will take a few weeks to implement this new federal program in our system. As with all the federal programs they’ve implemented under the CARES Act, it takes time to configure and test the system to ensure accuracy and compliance with both FEMA and DOL standards.”

The department said they are continuing to provide updates about the LWA assistance through the MyBenefits portal, texts, emails, social media and their website.

  18. I’m in Nevada and I know we were the last to apply. Has anyone in nevada seen the 300.00 yet? I know this site gave a date of September 26..but I was hoping to get it sooner.
    Thank you

    • No. I see September 27, which is a Sunday (certification day) meaning you won’t see it until Tuesday September 29 at the earliest.

    • I just posted an update based on some new information. I had originally estimated the date based on FEMA guidelines. But DETR (Nevada state UI agency) estimates it will now take four to six weeks to complete system updates before the agency can begin issuing payments to eligible claimants. Given Sep 11 was the FEMA approval date, then assuming the mid-point of 5 weeks of approval I have revised estimated payment date to start after October 16th. Will continue to monitor and update if the date changes. It’s an estimate until official and people start seeing payments. Link to reference in table now. It is however very disappointing to see Nevada so far behind other states in making this payment.

  19. Hello, everything I’ve read for Ohio has only applied to payments sent to individuals on pua not regular unemployment? Does anyone know when we are getting our payments?

People are suffering we as Americans deserve to know about our unemployment payments and when they are coming to feed our family I read a story about a family struggling while Congress took a break this is America ! We work pay our taxes and now we are begging our country for money’s for help ! They are the ones that covered up all this corona and we suffered losing our jobs family members to that. They in Congress are not hungry worried stressing they going home to a meal cozy bed and not worried about money to pay bills but they ignore the American people that got them their jobs I hope they see what this is doing to American people

  21. Ohio pua recipient; 300 was deposited into my account today (16th), another 300 is scheduled to be deposited tomorrow (17th). As of now nothing is pending for Friday (18th) though I was told six separate deposits will take place over six consecutive days, maybe Friday’s deposit will post later today.

      • Hey Andy I’m from Ohio and draw regular weekly unemployment and I have not received or been notified of receiving any LWA. I called the UI office after being on hold for an hour and twenty minutes the agent said that it would be another 2-3 days before I would receive the first initial $300 payment for 8-1. Other than that they were not very helpful they couldn’t give me an actual date to receive my first LWA payment. I will update as soon as Im able to give more info. Thanks for all the help and info you have provided for all of us on your site because Ohio has been absolutely no help and releases no updates on to keep us up to date. I feel there dragging this out as long as possible so they can draw the interest off of our money. $717 billion probably draws pretty good intrest over a months period. There all thieves in my book.

        • I spoke with Ohio unemployment just now and they told me that they are paying out the pua claims but the people on regular unemployment still dont have a date for payment. She said they have received no updates and doesnt know why people are saying otherwise. Its ridiculous that nobody has any actual information. Just speculation.

  22. I am in pa and am on the pua and still have not received the extra 300 for the five weeks My friend who is on regular unemployment got it yesterday does anyone know why or when it will go on because i thought it was suppose to be today

  23. I spoke with someone from ODJFS this morning! For anyone on regular unemployment – our payments are the way. She was very helpful and said that we should see payments by friday, or monday at the latest. Our claims page is set up differently the PUA and wont show the payment dates. Hope this helps!

        • Yes I spoke to a couple of people first one said no date yet second one said maybe by Friday

      • I spoke with someone from ODJFS as well and was informed that those getting regular unemployment not PUA should start getting payments early next week. The system is set of different for those getting regular unemployment! Hope this helps, just piggy backing from the first comment!

  25. I live in Ohio. I received $300 this morning from PUA. My regular unemployment came through yesterday, so I was surprised by the additional deposit this morning. I did not receive the rest of the payments that I’m owed from August 1st to now. I’m not sure how ODJFS plans on distributing the remainder of the funds, but this is a start!

    • Yes in Ohio the customer service representative said we would get $300 per day for 6 days. The weekend may stretch that out a bit. I’ve received $300 yesterday and today and see the $300 for tomorrow ready to deposit so anyone on PUA unemployment in Ohio should have started getting it. Regular unemployment in Ohio will a bit longer.

  33. I hope this helps someone. I’m in Missouri and my original unemployment claim wasn’t related to COVID. PEUC benefits kicked after my regular unemployment benefits ran out. I submitted a claim for it a few weeks prior to my regular benefits ran out and emailed them explaining the circumstances as well. The first few weeks when they started paying my husband the LWA, I didn’t receive it. I just received my approved weekly benefits. They sent me a correspondence and stated if I was still unemployed or partially unemployed now to due to COVID, to simply update my claim status by 9/8. It was located under claims and it was a simple one click certifying that my unemployment is due to COVID. I was able to due so because I was due to start a new job in April (originally laid off in March) and it’s been delayed twice. There’s a list of reasons they give on the unemployment website for how individuals are now affected that weren’t originally affected. I updated my claim status on 9/8 and received retroactive payments as followed: 9/9 $300, 9/10 600, 9/11 300 & /915 300. I hope this helps someone. If you missed your deadline to update your claim if your unemployment is now affected by COVID. File an appeal (faxing the appeal is better than making), include required identifying information and explain how your affected (review qualifying listed reasons under pandemic benefits). I would also send emails using the claimant form on the unemployment site, click other and type messages. I ALWAYS get things corrected this way or if they need to reach you they’ll call you. The phone lines have unsuccessful for me. I hope this information helps someone.

    Thanks

    • There’s still an option to update my claim status on mine (UPDATE COVID STATUS) underneath claims. The last day was supposedly 9/8 in Missouri. You can file an appeal if it won’t let you update it. Fax the appeal and include required information for appeal and send an email from the website using the claimant form.

    • Taxes will be taken out if you have your regular payments set to take the taxes out. I’m in Michigan and I’m still waiting. I wonder if EUC recipients are receiving theirs in the first waive and those of us on “regular” unemployment will be later as is happening in Ohio.
