When Will The $300 Extra Weekly Unemployment Start Being Paid in My State? News and Updates on Payment With PUA and PEUC Claims

[2022 Update] The $300 supplementary payment made in 2020 and 2021, ended in all states on September 6th, 2021 (some states ended it earlier).

Unless claims are in the adjudication process, At this stage all retroactive payments (including those for PUA and PEUC) have also been processed and no new payments are being made.

An extension of unemployment benefits, including the $300 payment, is not likely for 2022 and beyond unless economic conditions deteriorate significantly. I will post updates as they come to light.

____________

The latest (ARPA) stimulus package was passed by Congress and signed into law by the President Biden on March 11th, 2021. It includes further extensions to pandemic unemployment programs (PUA and PEUC) and an extra $300 weekly FPUC supplementary UI payment. The latest supplementary $300 payment will be paid over 25 weeks starting from week of March 15th, 2021 to September 6th, 2021. This is in addition to the previous extension covering 11 weeks from December 27th, 2020 to March 14th, 2021. Eligible payments will be made retroactively in cases where state unemployment agencies face delays with rolling out system updates to process these payments.

The $300 weekly unemployment payment will be made above and beyond any regular state or enhanced federal unemployment payment and require eligible claimants to certify regularly according to their state UI agency guidelines. Claimants will need to be eligible for at least $1 of an underlying unemployment benefit to receive the $300 supplemental payment under the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) program.

You do not need to take any additional action to receive this supplemental payment. States are slowly rolling out these payments for different groups of claimants starting with those already getting regular UI and state extended benefits (active claimants). Those who have exhausted benefits prior to the extensions being rolled out or new claimants will only be able to get payments once their underlying claim is approved.

I will update dates in the table below as states implement these guidelines and start making making actual payments. Please leave a comment if you find updated or incorrect information reflected in the table and I will review/update accordingly. Details on why this payment could be delayed due to PEUC or PUA roll-outs are discussed in this video.

State unemployment departments and agencies will be responsible for disbursing these benefit payments, similar to the $300 LWA and earlier $600 FPUC supplementary unemployment programs. Given the many challenges and various payment issues across states with earlier supplementary UI benefit programs, I expect this to take some time to be rolled out and require retroactive payments to get claimants caught up. So stay tuned and subscribe to get the latest updates. You can also see this $300 FPUC video for more details on this program.

Lost Wages Assistance (LWA) program – Now Expired

The temporary $300 unemployment benefit under the Lost Wages Assistance (LWA) program funding has now been paid in all states who participated in the program. The program expiry date was December 27th, 2020 and this means that any new or retroactive payments under this program will NO longer be paid out going forward. This has been replaced by the new $300 FPUC payment discussed above.

This supplementary payment was a temporary, but much needed benefit for unemployed or underemployed workers who lost the supplementary $600 FPUC weekly payment at the end of July. There was a lot of confusion on when the $300 would actually be paid by state UI agencies which led to the creation of the LWA state tracker table below, which shows the payment status and actual or estimated future date claimants can expect their first weekly unemployment payment, if eligible. You can also see the 1000+ comments from readers that share their experiences around the LWA payment, including some very useful tips if you are facing issues getting your $300 LWA payment.

All states that applied and were approved by FEMA were only initially awarded three weeks of funding – covering the weeks of August 1st, 8th and August 15th.  After that, states and territories will need to submit a Lost Wages Additional Week Request one week at a time for funding to pay claims for subsequent weeks. However any additional funding is subject to the $44 billion budget that is available for this program and it is almost certain that funding will run out before the December 27th expiry of this program, unless Congress approves additional funding via a formal UI benefits extension.

In fact, at this stage approved states will only get a maximum of 6 weeks of funding (weeks covering August 1st to September 5th) for the LWA program per recent FEMA guidance to state labor and unemployment agencies that have already made several weeks of payments. Several states which started making the $300 payments earlier than other states have already been notified that their LWA funding allotment has run out and no additional funding beyond will be approved. Note however that some states like Florida will only be applying for and paying 4 weeks of LWA benefits, since they didn’t meet some of the LWA program qualification rules (details here).

Payment Start date is when the state actually started processing LWA payments OR is the estimated date of the first payment processing based on available information. Note: Due to bank processing delays, it can take 2 to 4 days after the noted dates for benefits to hit your bank account or debit card. Please see links to more information in the table or your state UI website for specific payment status. If you find any mistakes or have updates, please leave a comment below and I will update table to help others.

What if my state has started making payments, but I don’t see my $300?

Claimants in most states do not need to take any action to receive the new benefits available in this program. The additional benefits will be added automatically for all claimants who are eligible and have certified for the relevant week. Their self-certification will ask them to confirm they were unemployed or partially unemployed due to COVID-19. See more FAQs on this here.

However if your state has started making payments and you haven’t received payments you need to first confirm you are eligible. This means you must be receiving at least $100 in weekly unemployment benefit payments (pre tax and before any other deductions). This includes claimants receiving any type of regular unemployment insurance benefits as well as those receiving PUA and PEUC benefits.

If you are eligible and you have not received a payment in several weeks then you will need to contact your state UI agency to ensure the claim has been processed and is not being held up due to fraud, missing/incorrect payment details or due to a weekly or bi-weekly certification issue.

See more in this article on Why Your $300 Unemployment Has Not Been Paid or Delayed.

My state has been approved and the LWA tracker says payments are being made, but when will I get my payment?

The tracker provides an actual or estimated date for the when the LWA payments start being processed by the state. If a start date has been officially published by the state, you will see the status updated to “paying now.” Otherwise it is estimate based on FEMA guidelines or if confirmed by several sources online. However this date (week start date in many cases) may not be the same as the date the actual UI payment will hit your back account or debit card. The actual date you may see the money could be several days after the official state processing start date and tied to your normal UI payment cycle. You will need to confirm via your UI online portal or state agency for the exact payment date.

Also note the payment date is generally the date when payment starts. In many states, due to volume of people being paid, claims are paid out over several days (in batches, based on SSN or First/Last Name). And given processing by banks to disburse these payments via direct deposit or debit cards can take 1 to 2 days, it may take several days after the first payment date for you to receive your payment.

I got my $900 back payment but no payments after that. Why?

The first state LWA grant approved by FEMA was only for three weeks. Hence the $900 payment (3 x $300) is what most people are seeing first, less any taxes or withholding. Subsequent $300 payments are approved and paid on a week by week basis. This includes retroactive payments which will also be staggered. Rest assured if you are eligible for past weeks you will get your payment.

Also the maximum number of weeks that can be paid under the LWA program is 6, which means the maximum payment in most states is $1800 (or $2400 if the state was paying $400 p/week). After the payment of 6 weeks, you will revert to what you were getting under existing unemployment programs.

I am got my first week of payments but not subsequent weeks.

Kristin asked, “My son just got his first payment for the weeks of 08/23 thru 08/29 and 08/30 thru 09/05. He got the extra $300 for the week of 08/23 – 08/29, but did not get the extra $300 for the week of 08/30 thru 09/05. We are in Texas. Do you know why he got it the first week, but not the second week?

Every week is processed separately by the state UI agency subject to FEMA funding. So you may be seeing some variability due to delays in approval, claim processing and eventual bank/debit card payment.

We are on track to distribute LWA benefits by the end of September and Waiting Week payments by the end of November. For more information on the agency’s timelines, watch this clip from yesterday’s hearing at the legislature.

        • SC Filed mine Thursday and it states (1800$)it also states may take up to 72hrs to be deposited says nothing about sending a check

        • I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING!! The state wasn’t worried about fraud until now??? I have been getting my weekly claims so that should show i am not fraud and send a CHECK IS INSANE!! God only knows when they actually arrive! SC screwed this up majorly!!

      • How long will it take for my 1800 to hit my debit card? I see it’s say they pay me $1800 but it not on my card yet. I did my LWA claim Friday afternoon. So how will I have to wait until it hit my card?

        • I would click the blue link for the date it says you received the $1800. For instance mine says $1800 beside 9/27/2020 and when I clicked it it says in the payment method section that I’m getting a check even though I usually get my benefits on a card .

      • So when you filed you got your 1800 that Monday or you had to wait 7-14 days and did you get. A check or did they use your information in the system?

No payment yet I did the identify verification it all went through fine. Then on 9/24/20 it shows payment paid Check. Today is Sunday 27 still no payment. Looks like they would have some kind of tracking for checks to let you see when checks was mail. So we can be on the lookout for exactly when they should arrive. So that you wouldn’t take the chance someone taking it out of the mail box. Ppl do steal mail it’s a shame but ppl do that. Looks like dewsc is taking every step to protect the state from fraud but what about protection for us from checks getting lost or stolen. God Bless and pray we all get our checks safe and very soon.

It did not work for me on microsoft edge so i downloaded google chrome. the next thing i did once in mybenifits home page was check my personal information and made sure i had everything exactly the same. Once past the initial verification page you will be prompted to a second page that will ask you three personal questions about your past in south carolina. the last page will ask you if covid is the reason for your unemployment. After that your home screen will go back to normal. Hope this helps!

However per OESC If you have not received LWA benefits, and believe you are eligible please verify eligibility (via official OESC website)

If you are not projected to start payments till the end of the week why is the local news saying this & saying it’s from your office? This really is misleading to people who desperately need this money. I do hope it’s in one lump sum after all this

Hello Andy I’m from Indiana. I got my claim to certify my eligibility at the beginning of Sept as payment were scheduled to be sent the week of sept 21st. However I actually misread the one question we had to answer and answered it wrong. I called indiana like the following day to tell them my mistake and was informed that thousands of people did the same thing. After calling a few more times and not having any good news I have just been waiting to hear something. Finally today I just happened to login to my account and seen to my surprise that I had another LWA claim to fill out. Just wondering what updates about this you or anyone can give would be awesome. 25. I do not appreciate you people getting on this site giving people false hope. You said SC would be paying out on the 20th & when I pulled my payout up for the week it’s just my regular UI payment. Why would you do this to people? I am on the verge of my vehicle being repossessed & I told them I would possibly have the money Monday. You are wrong for putting dates like this on here

    • If you’re in Georgia please check your ui portal. Second batch $900 has been disbursed with a deposit date of 9/21. This is solid information!

    • Please note for SC all dates are estimated in table based on available guidance. The state UI agency has not provided much in terms of concrete payment dates (unlike other states) so estimated and FEMA guidance on implementation is what we have. Since no one has reported payments as of today, moving out date a week.

    • Claimants who qualify for the LWA program will be issued their final round of supplemental payments this week for the three final eligible weeks. LWA is a program that receives funding from the Federal Emergency Management Administration’s (FEMA) Disaster Relief Fund. LWA allows distribution of an additional $300 weekly supplement to eligible individuals receiving UI benefits from state and federal unemployment insurance programs. The first three weeks’ worth of LWA benefit payments were issued to 564,613 claimants and totaled over $463 million. This week’s LWA benefits will be issued for eligible weeks ending August 22, August 29, and September 5.

    • Do anyone else have any new information about Georgia and why we didn’t get the final $900 by 9/19 like their website says? Do anyone know of any one person in Georgia that can at least see the second batch disbursed on their ui portal?

  28. Okay; so this is my second comment on this same matter. I live in Kentucky. I have been receiving regular UI benefits due to covid since March. I’ve read on here that Kentucky has started to pay out the $400 extra unemployment benefits on September 15th. As usual I claim my benefits every 2 weeks; with this coming Sunday (09/20/2020) being my date to claim. I’ve confused as to when our state has actually started paying out this extra benefit because I just read an article from one of our local news stations quoting our governor saying there are 3 phases that these benefits are being paid out with the first Week being sent out on September 11th. The second Week being processed on the 17th and the third being processed on the 18th. This article is pretty confusing since they say that the first week of payment was sent out on September 11th, but clearly says that the other two weeks were or are going to be processed on the 17th and 18th. I am definitely qualified to receive this extra unemployment benefit. So would someone please explain this (date confusion)to me? And would someone please assure me that I’m not the only qualified person that has not received this extra benefit? And to my understating those who are already receiving unemployment due to covid; do not have to take any extra steps to receive this extra unemployment benefit. Much appreciated: Answers please?????

Residing in SC: recertified for unemployment and ever since I filled my claim for there regular ui I’ve been seeing : you have received 2 benefit payments anyone else seeing this message after they file there claim? I figured the second payment was South Carolina’s way of keeping track of lwa payments in the system cuz I never received the second payment only the regular UI benefit which equaled 270.00

  34. Andy,

Is the Nevada date just an estimate (if so, is it bad on 4 or 6 weeks post application approval), or is there a point of reference for the stated date?

    Thank you.

    • I just posted an update based on some new information. I had originally estimated the date based on FEMA guidelines. But DETR (Nevada state UI agency) estimates it will now take four to six weeks to complete system updates before the agency can begin issuing payments to eligible claimants. Given Sep 11 was the FEMA approval date, then assuming the mid-point of 5 weeks of approval I have revised estimated payment date to start after October 16th. Will continue to monitor and update if the date changes. It’s an estimate until official and people start seeing payments. Link to reference in table now. It is however very disappointing to see Nevada so far behind other states in making this payment.

      • thank you for the info, it’s very disappointing to see Nevada so behind, By any chance do you know if they will give it in one slump? We’ll pretty much be getting it almost when everyone has already got their benefits… TIA

      • I’m in Nevada as well and I noticed it says on October 16th Deter said there gonna start rolling out the payments, just wondering if you think it’s going to be this weekend? I’m just so stressed out I have no money, have no food, Nothing. Im losing everything I own to pawn shops just to get by.. I really don’t know what to do and really expected this money and it’s taking forever in Nevada. So im just wondering what you think on this and if we really gonna get it real soon. Also a friend of mine said she knows people got it Already and I read on the website that they did a test run and sent out some payments, thats not fair to send a few people the cash. We all need it bad. I don’t know what self certify is. I go on the portal and there’s nothing about it when I did my initial claim the reason for me being unemployed is because of covid 19, I answered yes do I have to do anything else you think there’s nothing on there and you cannot get through on the phone at all.

  36. I received a message from Ohio UI website saying I needed to answer the yes no questions to certify for the LWA payment. I’m on traditional unemployment. I also looked on the OJFS website and its been updated as of today’s date saying there system is now updated so they can begin paying the people on Ohio’s traditional unemployment. It says there will be a lump sum payment up to $1800 bit you must go to the page you certify each week to get you regular UI and click on the LWA and answer the yes no questions to certify your claim is Covid-19 related. This is much needed money for all good luck.

    • I did mine last night I saw that once you certify the funds are automatically released the next day but i dont think it counts on weekends so monday should be the day you finally get the money. Thank you all for the information on this site. Good luck to all and to all the other people in other states i know we all needed this money.

  38. Any idea when the second round of payments for Georgia will be released? They reported the “end of next week” last week on the GDOL website.

        • On the ga website it says second batch sent out by 9/19 we should see it in the portal but I don’t see that it has been disbursed. Can you see the second batch in your ui portal and the date or just the first three weeks

        • When will I receive my payments?
Claimants who qualify for the LWA program are issued their first round of supplemental payments when deemed eligible for weeks ending 8/1, 8/8, and 8/15.

The GDOL plans to begin issuing the final three weeks’ worth of payments for weeks ending 8/22, 8/29, and 9/5 by Saturday 9/19. Payments should be available in the Debit Card or Direct Deposit account 48-72 hours from the payment date shown on My UI portal.

      • Got it, I see it there. I don’t see the disbursements on my UI portal either so that’s most likely what the 9:00-1:00 “system outage” is for. Hopefully we’ll at least see that it was disbursed by tomorrow.

        • Can you check around with your friends or family who may get unemployment see if they can see the second $900 in their ui portal? The reason I ask is because Georgia is usually right on point with dates timelines and anything regarding money or government. The portal should have updated like they said by 9/19

        • Thank you Georgians for a response.

This isn’t making any sense the portal should have updated by 9/19 to reflect the second $900 batch

      • Same here I still don’t see anything on mine . I’ve only recieved the first 3 week batch which said that the date was paid on 9/11 and I receive direct deposit but it didn’t hit my account until the following Monday 9/14

  40. Illinois has begun paying out LWA for the weeks ending 8/01, 8/08 and 8/15. Have the funds for LWA for the remaining weeks ending 8/22, 8/29 and 9/05, been approved?

    Reply
    • I just got this email. So yes!
      Dear Claimant –

You are receiving this email because our records indicate that you have received supplemental funding to your unemployment benefit payment through the new federal Lost Wages Assistance (LWA) program. LWA provides eligible claimants an additional $300 to their weekly benefit amount (WBA).

The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) has received $1.3 billion in funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for the six weeks LWA is available to each state. Payments began disbursement on September 6 for the weeks of July 26 – August 15 and will continue to be paid out for the weeks between August 16 – September 5. LWA payments are available to claimants earning a minimum $100 WBA and are in current pay status.

LWA is a completely separate federal program from that of the previous unemployment supplemental Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) program, which provided an additional $600 each week in 100 percent federally funded benefits to any claimant receiving unemployment benefits.
