2026 IRS Tax Refund Schedule And Direct Deposit Payment Calendar

Tax return processing and refund payments continue to be bumpy this year given IRS budget cuts and introduction of several tax changes under Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill.

With over 160 million returns expected to be filed this tax season, many tax filers can expect processing delays beyond the standard guidelines shown below. The good news is refunds are expected to be larger.

When Can I Expect My Tax Refund?

According to the IRS refunds will generally be paid within 21 days. This includes accepting, processing and disbursing approved refund payments via direct deposit or check. This is regular days, not business days.

This was the basis for the estimated IRS refund schedule/calendar shown below, which has been updated to reflect the start date of IRS tax return processing this year.

The refund processing schedule is organized by IRS’ WMR/IRS2Go processing status‘. The listed dates are just week ending estimates and your refund could be paid anytime during the week based on your IRS cycle code (see more on that in sections below).

Further, as many tax filers have found out over the last few years, actual refund payment dates could be much longer if your return is pulled for mandated PATH, additional identity fraud/security checks, special handling or manual agency reviews.

The estimated IRS refund payment dates in the chart above should not be construed as official IRS payment dates. To get the exact date of your refund payment check the IRS’ Where is My Refund (WMR) site or your IRS transcript.

How to read the IRS refund processing schedule

The estimated refund payment dates in the table above are based on past years and IRS processing guidelines. It shows the date your refund will be processed and paid based on the week your return is accepted and refund is approved by the IRS.

The federal IRS refund processing schedule is only for electronically filed returns (e-file) done thorough online tax software providers and assumes your tax return was in order. I.e accepted by the IRS via the WMR tool and status is equal to “Return Received”.

Once your tax return is successfully processed by the IRS, it will go to the “Refund Approved” status, after which it goes to refund sent when the payment is disbursed by the IRS.

Paper filed returns can take considerably longer and could take 1 to 2 weeks longer than the direct deposit payment dates.

Average IRS Refund

Based on the latest statistics from the latest tax year the IRS processed over 160 million returns with the average refund payment of $3,138. This was 1% lower than the prior year.

Why Your Refund Payment Could be Delayed

There are many reasons your tax return processing could be delayed beyond what is shown in the standard schedule above. This includes submission errors, IRS reconciliation issues or security/fraud related issues.

This is why many filers are see the “Return Processing Has Been Delayed Beyond The Normal Timeframe (Tax Topic 152)” message during tax season.

Note that as in previous years, if you claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) your refund may have been delayed beyond the standard processing times due to the PATH act provisions.

This is to allow for fraud and dependent verification on these dependent related tax credits. See sections below for more on the PATH act and refund release timeline.

For those experiencing ongoing issues or delays with their refunds check out this article on “Why is it taking so long to get my refund.”

IRS Test Batches – Early Refunds

A week or two prior to the IRS officially accepting and processing tax returns, they will often run several test batches with various major tax software providers to “test” and “verify” their systems are integrating externally and processing returns correctly.

This will result in WMR status updates for a small subset of tax payers picked in these early test batches, but refunds won’t be paid until after the official IRS processing date.

Note that early refunds paid as a result of test batch processing are not the same as those via refund advance loans.

When Should Taxpayers contact the IRS?

The IRS has said that phone and walk-in representatives can only research the status of your refund if it has been 21 days or more since you filed electronically, or more than 6 weeks since you mailed your paper return or if the IRS WMR tool directs you to contact them.

Help! My WMR status bar has disappeared

As many folks have commented, the WMR tracker status bar may disappear or not be shown if your return falls under IRS review after it is received (Status Bar 1: Return Received) because additional information is needed for your return.

This can happen even if you previously checked WMR and it showed the status as “Return Received.”  An explanation or instructions will be provided depending on the situation (e.g. PATH message or Tax Topic 152 as discussed below)

But don’t panic when this happens. The IRS still has your return but things are essentially on hold until the IRS gets the additional information from you to continue processing your return . You will either get directions on WMR or IRS2Go or the IRS will contact you by mail. See more in this video.

Follow the provided instructions and return any additional information ASAP to get your potential refund and reduce any further delays. Talk to your accountant, tax advocate or tax professional if you are not clear on what the IRS is asking for or you don’t get an update after 21 days.

PATH Act and Tax Topic 152

Two of the most common refund related messages showing up on the WMR tool after your tax return is submitted are the PATH message and a reference to Tax Topic 152

The PATH message on WMR/IRS2Go relates to the the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act (PATH Act of 2015) and is to notify you that the IRS is legally required to hold and further verify tax returns that include EITC or ACTC.

While the IRS can continue to process affected returns, they cannot issue refund payments until the PATH act lifts. This generally happens from mid-February. See more in this article on PATH act processing for the current tax season.

Path ACT Refund
PATH Refund Delays

The PATH message does not mean your tax return is done and your tax refund is approved. It simply means the IRS systems have identified you are claiming the (EITC) or the (ACTC) on your tax return, and so further processing and payments related to your refund are held up for the statutory hold period (3 weeks after the start of tax season).

Once the PATH restriction is lifted, the IRS will process these returns and pay refunds per the above schedule. You may see Tax code 570 with a Notice 971 code (IRS review adjustment) if your refund is adjusted for other reasons.

When you see the Refer to Tax Topic 152 message it means your refund is being processed and the IRS is directing you its generic refund page for more information. There is not much you can do but wait to see if the IRS finds any issues or requires further verification of your identity or items in your tax return.

A Tax Topic 151 message simply means that you’re getting a tax offset which may result in your refund being less than you expected. The reason for this is that the federal government has “offset” or deducted monies from your tax refund to cover debts you owe other federal agencies. See this article to get more details on why your refund was offset.

You will get an official notice letter/report explaining the actual offset and adjustments to your tax return, and details on how to appeal this action – but likely it will delay you getting your refund.

While not great news, the silver lining here is that the IRS has processed your return and your adjusted refund (where applicable) should be on its way. You will see code 846 on your transcript when the refund has been issued.

What is the IRS Cycle Code on my Transcript?

While the above IRS refund schedule can give you an estimated date for you refund once approved (WMR/IRS2Go status) by the IRS, it may take a while to get there.

So some folks use their IRS tax transcript (free from your IRS account) which shows various tax processing codes and a “cycle code.” This is an eight digit number that indicates when your tax return posted to the IRS Master File (IMF).

The cycle code is updated regularly and when combined with the tax topic code, can provide insight into your tax refund status, processing stages and potential direct deposit date. You can see a deeper discussion on IRS cycle codes in this article.

IRS Tax Transcript Cycle Code

If I can see current year processing details on my IRS tax transcript does it mean I am getting my refund soon?

This question comes up a lot and I have seen a few comments on this suggesting that that if you can see current tax season processing details on your (free) transcript then your refund is on the way. But this is not a factual statement.

The IRS is very clear that just being able to see processing details on your IRS transcript does not mean you will imminently be getting a refund and is among the common myths and misconceptions repeated in social media.

For the current tax season you transcript will update several times in line with your cycle code (discussed above) and IRS processing. The official IRS line is that checking the WMR or IRS2Go tool is the best and official way to check your refund status.

However I have read a number of comments here and on other tax sites saying that when WMR/IRS2Go provides limited information on the refund, your IRS transcript can be a good source to get more details. The is especially the case if your refund processing has been stuck for a while.

IRS system issues and refund delays

Every year the IRS has issues with processing returns in a timely manner and so a number of people see delays in getting their refunds or updates in the status of their refund on the WMR tool/app.

The IRS has said most system processing issues have now been resolved and new funding will be used to upgrade systems.

But given the various legacy systems in place and sheer volume of processing to be done, including prior season backlogs of paper and amended returns, I would not be surprised to see system issues arise again this year, which mean more delays in processing and paying refunds. See more around processing delays in this video.

See these articles for average refund amounts in past tax seasons and refund processing times by state

Amended Tax Return Refund Schedule

While the IRS promises to have regular return refunds processed within 21 days for nine out of ten tax payers, it does take quite a bit longer to receive a refund if you amended your tax return.

Generally you will have to wait up to 16 weeks more for the IRS to process amended returns since they prioritize regular returns. Also note that the standard”Where’s my refund” service from the IRS does not track amended tax return status’. You need to instead use the IRS tool, “Where’s My Amended Return.”

You can also access the tool via phone by calling 1-866-464-2050.  Only call the IRS to follow up on delayed amended return refunds after 12 weeks. The number to call is 1-800-829-1040.

Q: How long does it take to get a tax refund in 2026?
A: The IRS issues most refunds within 21 calendar days of accepting your return — not business days. The fastest way to receive your refund is to e-file your return and choose direct deposit. Paper returns take 4 to 8 weeks. If your return requires additional review or you claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC), your refund may take longer.

Q: When will I get my 2026 tax refund if I filed electronically?
A: If you e-filed and selected direct deposit, you can generally expect your refund within 10 to 21 days of the IRS accepting your return. The IRS began accepting 2026 returns on January 26, 2026. Filers who submitted on or around that date can expect deposits around February 13 to February 16, assuming no issues with their return.

Q: What is the PATH Act and how does it affect my refund?
A: The Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act requires the IRS to hold refunds for filers claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) until at least mid-February. In 2026, the IRS confirmed it will lift the PATH Act hold and begin updating refund statuses on WMR and IRS2Go by February 21, 2026. Most PATH-held refunds will be deposited by March 2, 2026 for those who chose direct deposit with no other issues on their return.

Q: How do I check my IRS refund status?
A: The best way is to use the IRS “Where’s My Refund?” (WMR) tool at irs.gov/refunds or the IRS2Go mobile app. WMR updates once daily, usually overnight. You can check your status 24 hours after e-filing or 4 weeks after mailing a paper return. You will need your Social Security number, filing status, and exact refund amount to look up your status. You can also call the IRS refund hotline at 1-800-829-1954, though wait times are typically long during tax season.

Q: What does Tax Topic 152 mean?
A: Tax Topic 152 is a generic IRS reference code that simply means your refund is being processed and may take longer than 21 days. It is not a red flag or audit indicator — it appears on WMR for many standard returns and usually resolves on its own. It does not mean anything is wrong with your return.

Q: What is an IRS cycle code and what does it mean?
A: An IRS cycle code is an 8-digit number that appears on your tax transcript and indicates when your return posted to the IRS Master File. The first 4 digits are the tax year, the next 2 are the week of the year, and the last 2 digits indicate the day of the week your return was processed (01=Monday through 05=Friday). Combined with transaction codes on your transcript, your cycle code can give you a more precise estimate of your direct deposit date than WMR alone.

Q: Why is my refund taking longer than 21 days?
A: Several factors can delay a refund beyond 21 days: filing a paper return instead of e-filing, claiming the EITC or ACTC (PATH Act hold), errors or incomplete information on your return, identity verification requirements, an offset to pay a federal or state debt, or your return being selected for additional review. If it has been more than 21 days since e-filing or 6 weeks since mailing a paper return, you can call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040.

Q: Will I still receive a paper check refund in 2026?
A: In most cases no. Under Executive Order 14247, the IRS phased out paper refund checks effective September 30, 2025. For the 2026 tax season, the vast majority of filers must provide bank routing and account numbers to receive their refund via direct deposit. Limited exceptions exist for taxpayers without access to banking services. If your direct deposit is rejected by your bank, the IRS will freeze the refund and send a CP53E notice — you then have 30 days to provide updated bank details or the IRS will issue a paper check after 6 weeks.

Q: Can I use my IRS transcript to find my refund date?
A: Your transcript can provide more detail than WMR in some cases, but the IRS is clear that seeing processing details on your transcript does not guarantee your refund is imminent. Code 846 (Refund Issued) on your transcript with a current or future date is the best indicator that your refund has been approved and a deposit date is set. The official IRS guidance is to use WMR or IRS2Go as your primary refund status tool.

Q: What is the difference between my refund being accepted versus approved?
A: Accepted means the IRS has received your return and it has passed initial checks — this happens quickly, often within 24 hours of e-filing. Approved means the IRS has finished processing your return, verified your information, and confirmed the refund amount. Your deposit is scheduled only after your return is approved. WMR will show “Return Received,” then “Refund Approved,” then “Refund Sent” as your return moves through these stages.

  1. I don’t have DD – getting a check instead . Do they send out checks on Fridays only ? Any know ???

    1. A friend of mine, got her check in the mail this past Saturday,,,

    2. I received a check last year, it took about 3 to 5 business days, something like that, I live in Atlanta, I think my check came from downtown Atlanta, you really need to find out what date it was mailed out to you, let me tell you it doesn’t take long at all for the check to be mailed out from IRS, your post office plays a part also

    3. They mail the check on your DD

      1. Yes how crazy on Saturday,,,, out unless the mail man didn’t finish all his stops on Friday

    4. Bob, I had to read the Manuel for this question. But I wanted to give accurate info.

MF Refund Payment Date -The IMF Refund Payment Date will be computed by IMF for both Direct Deposit and Paper Check refunds and will be listed on the refund transaction TC 846 in fields:

IMF computes this field as the posted cycle date PLUS four business days for Direct Deposit refunds; posted cycle date PLUS six business da

      1. oops, cut off the rest:

IMF computes this field as the posted cycle date PLUS four business days for Direct Deposit refunds; posted cycle date PLUS six business days for Paper Check refunds.

  2. Hi all, 1st time poster so don’t be to hard on me.. :) I got an update on WMR. All is well except… I elected for DD and the WMR indicates a paper check. Any idea why? My refund is pretty hefty (I work overseas and still have taxes taken out in case I get caught up in the states to long). I was thinking possibly DD limits, but not sure.

    1. I saw another post that stated if its more than 10,000 u cant get a dd if would have to be a paper check so that might be why.

      1. My dd is over 12000.00 and they direct deposit it.

    2. Josh, I haven’t read anything about the Amount is too large, but I did read there are limits which only applies if you have more than (3) deposits to the same account. Also, DD converts to paper if they have problems making the transaction. Could be account number incorrectly entered, your name wasn’t on the account and the bank sent it back to be reissued as paper. I am sure there maybe other situations as well….these are the most common ones…is the bank in the US or Overseas?

    3. This is for fraud protection – that’s pretty much it. They took an extra step to mitigate fraud this year by mailing out some checks, even though you elected for DD. I had the same thing happen this year.

  3. I want to make sure that my taxes are good and there is no hold on them. I have called 3 different phone numbers and I always select “Check Status of Refund”, but I keep getting the automated message. I would like to actually talk to a person! Can anyone help me on how to not get the automated message?

    1. Hi Corren, you can call (800) 829-0582 ext. 652 or 18008291040, 1 for english then options 2, 2, 4, 1

    2. Corren, try these numbers: (800) 829-0582 ext. 652 or 18008291040, 1 for English then 2241 tell them you were directed to call them after you checked the WMR…just say you don’t recall what Code it said. This should get you to talk to a live person. good luck.

  4. This tax stuff is so confusing this year! I filed my taxes a week ago and they still haven’t been accepted by the IRS but I see some people file and get accepted the same day or the following day. Can anyone tell me what would be the hold up?

    1. Lana, who did you file with? Weird you haven’t been accepted.

      1. I filed online with Taxact.

        1. Lana, I heard a lot of people was having problems with them….uhmmmmmm you may need to resubmit.. See what they are saying is happening on there end..good luck

  5. Pray we get an update in the morning tomorrow can’t wait

    1. I just spoke to 2 IRS workers, and they both told me that we will not see an update on our end WMR until Friday, they both also said that the cycle date we see on transcript does not have anything to do with refund, he looked at my account and said they received my information on Jan 27, 2017, he said that Feb 17, 2017 will be my 21 days, so it’s very possible that I may see my refund in my account on this Fri, which is the 17th, but he also said that it will be a flood of refunds going out

      1. i called the irs and they really dont tell you anything but to wait until the 27th for a refund she was rude didnt really wanna answer my questions

        1. yeah i also call today the lady told me to wait till after the 15 or first weeks of march them call them back

        2. transcipt, lol, I was told March 15th…smh. I knew she was crazy for saying that. I was about to come thru that phone…I wasnt waiting one minute more after 18th. I am being generous to give them that…lol.

        3. LOL, i will be calling on monday if i don’t see my refund.

      2. Toya, you are correct the cycle date does not have anything to do with refunds. The 846 code is the only thing on an Account transcript that truly matters. They give cycle codes for a reason and they have multiple example on how they use the cycle codes to process refunds in batches and submit to Treasury based on those cycle codes. So technically they do have something to do with the processing of the batches for release…check out IRS Manuel 3.30.123.4 Cycle Definitions.

  6. Happy Valentine’s Day my good people!! One more day and hopefully we all will be happy tomorrow. I’m already excited lol

    1. Happy vday hopefully we get a date or we get it tomorrow

      1. Yes I hope we get it or at least a date. I just want to know something. I’ve been waiting since the 01/12 when it was accepted and I’m tired of being in the dark

  7. See you guys later, I have to go for now. I will check back in a couple of hours or so. You all try to enjoy your final day before the major updates soon to happen….we are almost there.

  8. If you are still pending and do not have the PATH MSG yet. Please call IRS ASAP before the phone blow up tomorrow thur Sat and you can’t get in…lol. We can only speculate but IRS can give you FACTS and ease your mind. (800) 829-0582 ext. 652 or 18008291040, 1 for english then 2241. You might have to tell a little white (lie) just pray and ask for forgiveness later..ok. lol. To get them to look into your issues…just say I got a code on the WMR to call, you don’t recall what it was….ok.

    1. Jazzy, I am just showing still processing, no bars or codes. I was accepted 1/28/17. I have not hit my 21 days yet. I called this morning and was able to talk to irs person. He pulled up my info, and put me on hold a few minutes. When he came back on he said he did not see any problems, but I need to wait the 21 days and call back if nothing. Do you think I should still be concerned?

      1. Sandra, call back and hopefully another rep will give you more details. Just say you were told to call by the WMR and you forgot the code it gave you….just say did you all send me a letter? You are under a review and just may need to answer a few questions. It may take you several attempts ….read the post for Destiny…scroll to you find it; look what happen to her…don’t take no for an answer, but you should not be at ‘”still processing if you filed on the 28th. Something is wrong…

    2. Hello, is that 18008290582 number a legit to the IRS

    3. hello, is that 18008290582 a legit number to the IRS?

  9. Finally was able to order my transcript today. I have a cycle date of 20170702. Then next to “refund issued” it has a date of 3-6-2017. Really?! I don’t qualify for EIC or the additional child credit. I guess i don’t understand the cycle date?

    1. Girlyq, The date they are giving just let you know that you should have a refund before or no later than 3-6-17, which is pretty good with you being in the 7th week of filing. That was pretty quick and you already can view your transcript. wow. You may see a ddd sooner than later…great!

  10. So I was able to get in touch with a live person at IRS she said that there is a credit on my account so im guessing that means its been approved. They just haven’t released the funds yet so hopefully this week

    1. Amy u file earned income

      1. Mike yes I did. but I really did get much of a refund back less the 4000. But a lot of people i know are getting 9000-10,000. I know that I have to wait till after the 15th which is tomorrow.

        1. Well amy good luck fingers crossed and lets hope for good news

    2. Amy, yes that is correct. Congrats and good luck..we should see some movement in the morning if not 16-18 for sure. Yeah :-)

    3. Hi Amy!
What do your status say on WMR?

      1. It has the PATH MESSAGE

  11. I am one of those people that have to wait 21 days in order to even see a transcript but my wmr showed the bars up until maybe like a week ago or maybe 2 weeks and it kept saying accepted now I’m showing the 152 code what you know what that means because I received the EICT and I just called and talk to someone and he told me that they can’t see transcript until the 21 days he said which on the 152 code it says that they will be issuing them out the week of the 27

    1. Bizzle, try calling these numbers and telling them you need your transcript for school or a bank loan. This will force them to look up your return to see if they can order it on your behalf and tell you if they see any issues with your refund.

18008291040, 1 for English then 2241 or (800) 829-0582 ext. 652 if they are unable to process and mail it for you…then something is wrong…if it has been over a week since they received your return…

      1. Jazzy I’ll I’ll call Tomorrow they kept telling me that they couldn’t tell me anything until the 15th so one unlikely the 15th is going to be my 21-day Mark so I’ll wait until I see anything tomorrow or the 16th but I’m probably still going to call tomorrow and tell them that I need it for school just like you guys said

        1. Bizzle, ok keep me posted and good luck…you might get good news before you even have to make that call…hope so.

        2. I went ahead and I ordered my transcript online I should get it within 5 to 6 business days but tomorrow is my last day for my weight so tomorrow’s the 21st day of me filing my taxes so hopefully I have good news tomorrow I’m going to check with 3am and 6 o’clock in the morning more than likely I’m probably just going to wait until I wake up tomorrow morning for work. Good luck guys!!

    2. Bizzle, have you tried both online and via phone yet to see if they are saying unavailable?

  12. My process date 2-13-2017 I filed on 1-15-2017. Got accepted on 1-17-2017 so if you are accepted by at least 1-17-2017 you should be in the first batch of checks,,,that’s with the ones with (path) ACT,,,,,

  13. 20170402 anybody ???

    1. Mine is 20170405

      1. Any idea what it means ?

        1. Hi Bob, your cycle code = the year, the week and the day you were accepted. Ex: 2017, then 4th week which is Jan 22-28 when you filed and 02 = Monday. So Jan 23 you were processed, on the 24 was able to order your transcript, then on the 25 you got the PATH MSG update on the WMR…and been sitting on it since then…lol. You in the 1st release batch. But keep in mind IRS is staggering the dates…so any of us may have a DDD 15-27th ugh.

        2. I don’t have DD . Mine is a check so I’m assuming it will take longer

        3. I filed mine February 13,2017 I have the bar that said processing and at the bottom is the tax topic 152 message when can I expect my refund?

        4. Ashley, you should be seeing some movement between now and Saturday….keep looking at your bank account, you may see it way before the update…good luck

  14. Hello my tax return blog family Happy Love Day!!!!! I got my transcripts this my return was processed on the 30 of January. I have screenshooted the entire cycle code chart but it want allow me to post it.

    1. Hi Rina, you get the PATH MSG yet on WMR, that states check back after the 15th for a personalized DDD? If so, you are good to go. good luck.

      1. Yes I have had the path msg since the 31st of January.

    2. Is this chart for people with EIC credit???

  15. To recap: we filed our taxes on 2/2 it was accepted same day. We did not have eic or child tax credit. We did however have educational credit. Bar has been in received for 12 days now with topic 152 message. Called IRS this morning as Jazzy suggested. Return is scheduled to be in acct on Friday the 17th. Said they took away the one educational credit and then after further research gave it back. WMR still only says received. But I will listen to the human I talked to over the computer lol

    1. What number did you call , I am going through a similar situation

      1. Shay try these 2 numbers to get a live rep 18008291040, 1 for english then 2241 or (800) 829-0582 ext. 652

    2. Marlene, awesome news….that human you spoke to knows a lot more than US, we can only speculate, but it is always wise to go straight to the source, that is my motto…lol. I am so glad you got the info you needed…you should see a deposit in your account pending may be as early as tomorrow….good luck.

  16. Hello Jazzy, when do IRS usually update their system. I see it says over night. So does that mean 12a.m it should reflect the update?

    1. Tee, go the the WMR, look at the top and click on the tab that says Refund Help, scroll down a little bit and you will see the complete schedule of times and dates they system updates…..6am is the best time to check each day for any updates. Hope this helps…

  17. Good morning all..i know thos of us with eic are down to our last few days of waiting..i had no update on WMR or no DD, just checking in to see if anyone else has had an update or if we are all still waiting? TIMES ALMOST UP!

    1. Deanna, I didn’t have any update either, but my banks post pending deposits around 11ish….so I am going to keep check throughout the day….girl can only hope…keep faith alive…lol.

  18. Excerpt:
Although the IRS will release those refunds on February 15, taxpayers will not see the funds deposit into their banking accounts until as late as the week of February 27,” said Kathy Pickering, executive director and vice president of The Tax Institute at H&R Block. “There are many processing steps that the IRS, the Treasury and the banks go through to get the money into the taxpayers hands. Check Where’s My Refund website for any funding updates

  19. Keep in mind if you can order transcripts and still be under review. Yes, transcripts does mean you are done processing; but your return could still be pulled for further review or pending for other reasons for the delay. For ex: educational credit, they may have to contact the school and verify it; maybe all w-2 submitted; health form; ID verify; changes from last year (marriage/dependents) new address (red flag). It states on IRS Website…ANY NEW CHANGES…results in further review…

  20. For anyone who haven’t seen moment on the WMR or gotten the PATH message by now and filed by 2-5. I highly recommend you
call 18008291040, 12241 to speak directly with a representative. get rep. To get them to look at your return, just tell them you got a code on the WMR, last night to call, say I don’t recall what the code was I am not at a computer right now to look. The is the only way you can know for sure what the hold up could possibly be…hope this will help ease your mind…good luck.

    1. does the path message mean approved

      1. Morning Amy, yes it is an indication that returns are done if the Path message states Check back after the 15th for your personalized DDD…not necessarily approved yet…but completed.

        1. I filed on h&r block online and I have a DDD for my state refund which is the 27th. I was able to order my transcript return and account.

        2. I just called IRS and spoke to lady in transcript department, she said that the cycle date, does not tell you when you are getting your refund, she also said that WMF will not be updated until this Friday, so she was like refund could still be deposited in your account, and WMF could say something else, but either way she said it won’t update until Friday

    2. What a moment ?? I don’t got the path message but I got something that say your tax return is being processed. If you filed a complete and accurate return . Your refund should be issued in 21 days . Processing may take longer under certain circumstances . Then it says tax topic 152

      1. driving me crazy, You need to be on the phone with IRS ASAP. Here’s the number (800) 829-0582 ext. 652 or 18008291040, 1 for English then 2241….tell them the WMR told you to contact them…you don’t remember the code it gave you, that is just a little sneaky trick to force them to look at your return…good luck

    3. So is the path mesg good

      1. Shawnda, yes that is good. Especially if you haven’t rec’vd any letters as of yet. We will all find out over the next few days….fingers crossed…:-)

  21. Thank you jazzy for all your help I didn’t even have to ask a question just went thru comments and found a similar situation that you had answered you’re the “man”!

    1. +1 for Jazzy.

I am def sharing this article and comments that helped me via Facebook! The more people that can be helped the better.

      1. Hey Jeff, I agree with that philosophy; thank you for thinking of others to share. We are all in the same boat and depends on each other to get thru this tax season with minimum stress as possible. THANK YOU!

    2. Loribeth, you are very welcome. Glad you were able to find the answer you were seeking by scrolling thru the post. I wouldn’t mind if you did ask the question again, if just give me an excuse to chat more because I love chatting with you guys, you all are so kind and respectful :-).

  22. Good Morning ALL, Happy Valentine’s Day and Happy Tax Eve….I woke up to NOTHING…but my bank post pending deposits around 10-11am. Not expecting anything today, but hopefully starting tomorrow and thereafter. Since I don’t work directly for the IRS, I only can give my best opinion and try to lift each other spirits. I try to provide “facts” directly from IRS Manuel, personal experience and knowledge…I research before I post to give the most accurate info as possible…WMR isn’t reliable…

    1. Thank you same here I get my money 2days faster with my bank around noon you think they released money last night.

    2. Thank you Jazzy for all your comments when i starter reading them it really made feel better about my tax refund.

      1. transcript, you are very welcome. We all are about to get some relief soon. This tax year nightmare is about to end, not sooner enough tho…right? Only 1 more day or 2 if we have to wait until the 16th to see any updates on WMR…or our banks or transcript with 846 code.

  23. filed thru turbo tax 1/23/17 irs accepted then got letter in the mail 4883c on 2/6/17 called them the same day spent 2hrs getting verified then they said cleared and accepted but it could take another 9 weeks . For WHAT! Mine is to be direct deposit. What are they using my money for? More PROTEST FUNDING? I WANT MY MONEY!!!!!

    1. Hartman, that is not true…you were immediately put back line and resequenced, the most it will delay your refunds is no more than a week or 2 the most. The said that last year to many of us…and we got it within 2 weeks. There goes IRS again saying anything…lol.

    2. Jazzy, just going by what they told me and what the site said about 4883c letters after you are verified. But we will see.

  24. So stressed out can’t see my transcript online don’t know what is going on this is just crazy one more day hopefully.

    1. Nicole have u tried calling the irs

      1. Yeah I keep getting hard asses that wont tell me anything.

        1. Nicole, you try ordering via phone or mail? Phone updates before the online system or call this number as well to talk to a live person (800) 829-0582 Ext. 652 tell them you need your transcript for school or for a bank loan…they will be forced to assist you with getting it.

        2. Jazzy the lady that I spoke to this morning in transcript department, said that they have been flooded with calls regarding the cycle date, she said that people are assuming that it means when your refund will be deposited, she said that for example 20170505, means when you ordered your transcript, she said we will not see update WMF until Fridat

        3. Toya, that is so wrong. IRS will say anything…I was told I wouldn’t see a DDD until March 15th because it took 3 weeks to process. I read her what was said on their website and she had nothing more to say…smh. Why would the date you order your transcript be on your “ACCOUNT” transcript. Ex: you ordered it on 01-30-2017…that is not a cycle date. So EVERYONE with 20170505 order theirs on the same EXACT date? Wouldn’t that be a little odd you think? IRS lies all the time…lmbo.

        4. Toya, just to show how much they lie, go to their website; look at the top and click on NEWS AND EVENTS…you will see the article where it states they will be issuing DDD 16-18th. That is Thursday…so that theory is out the window…the right hand don’t know what the left hand is saying..lol.

  25. My husband and I file our taxes separately, so we do not get the EIC. We have 1 child he claims on his return. We receive the regular child tax credit, but not the ACTC. We filed our taxes on Jan 22nd, accepted on the 23rd, and they are still processing. Tried to order transcript last week, they couldn’t verify our identity for some reason, so I’m waiting for a code in the mail. Are ours caught up in the ones being held to the 15th, or should I be concerned that something else is going on?

    1. Beth, have you tried via phone? Phone updates before the online system or call this number as well to talk to a live person (800) 829-0582 Ext. 652 tell them you need your transcript for school or for a bank loan…they will be forced to assist you with getting it. Also call to see if there is anything else going on…or this number 18008291040, 1 for english then 2241, say you were instructed to call on WMR…you got a code, don’t recall code it said…they will research and provide you insight..

      1. Going to wait and see if I get the code in the mail this afternoon. That will be day 6 since I ordered it. If I see no change by the morning, I will be calling. This stinks. We usually get our refund within a week, and nothing is different on our return this year. Its been the exact same for 5 years. We were actually planning on being adults with it this year and and doing some improvements around the house with it instead of pissing it away like usual :)

    2. You return sounds like it was held up for additional security/identity checks. Once you get the code you can proceed to verify your ID. But this will likely mean a delay in getting your refund

  26. “Where’s My Refund?” Begins Updating Feb. 16 for EITC and ACTC Filers

By law, the IRS must hold Earned Income Tax Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit refunds until Feb. 15. Taxpayers will begin to see refunds claiming EITC/ACTC the week of Feb. 27. “Where’s My Refund?” will update for EITC/ACTC refunds beginning Feb. 16, with the vast majority updating by Feb. 18.

  27. My taxes were accepted on 26 January and for the longest time I had the bars just showing accepted. Now that went away end of last week and just “still processing” I do not and have not had any codes. My filling status and refund amount are still there as well. No updates have been made in several days. I also do not have any children. I appreciate any insight on this you might have

    1. Sarah, read some of my other posts and contact IRS this morning, that is the only way you will no for sure what the hold up could possibly be. Everyone returns is different and it is not a one fit all issues…we can only speculate but IRS can give you FACTS. We are too close to those DDD so please call ASAP to get answers ok….good luck.

  28. James wat is this

  29. My boyfriends refund was accepted January 27 – WMR says it’s still processing. This will be the first refund in 3 years that he’ll actually receive (he had student loans in default, that issue has been resolved) and he worked one month in January while living in NJ and theN his job moved him back to NJ. What could be causing such a delay? People that filed after him have already received their refund.

    1. Alexa, the move could have flag the return. Any new changes will result in further review a simple phone call could resolve any holds quickly to put you back in que for processing…waiting it out should not be an option at this time…also call the offset number (800) 304-3107 to verify the student loan default has been removed. It will give you additional insight…good luck

  30. Brandy Ontiveros

If my refund says it is still being processed. A refund date will be provided when available.
Please note: for refund information check her or IRS.gov the usual saying.
What does this mean is it im getting a refund

    1. Brandy, read my other posts and contact IRS…you may need to provide additional information to move it alone…good luck

  31. Filed & Accepted 2/1/2017. My bars On WMR Disappeared On The Morning Of 2/10/2017. Now I Just Have The PATH Act Message And Tax Topic 152 Sitting There. It Also Does Not Show My Tax Refund Amount, Only Last 4 Of Social Security, Filing Status, And Tax Year Ending In 2016. Can Anyone Help.

    1. Eric W. You are good to go….check your bank account and online transcript for a code of 846 any day now ok. Also, 16-18 IRS will be updating the WMR with personalized DDD regardless of what date you are given, the money usually is in your bank account about 4 days prior to the date on the WMR…good luck…

  32. I Filed 2/1/2017 & Was Accepted 2/1/2017. However, My bars On WMR Have Brennan Gone Since The 2/10/2017 And I Just Have The PATH Act Message. It also Does Not Show My refund Amount Anymore. Any help?

I am Heaet ❤ Broken. So far in debt right now. Hope IRS send soon. I Hungry and need to pay off debt. Three months behind in Credit Cards and other Bills. 1. Can someone tell me who to call about this? I e-filed on January 20, it was accepted on January 23rd and as of February 14th my return is still being processed….no EIC credit here either.,,I need this money!

    2. Filed on Jan 23 was accepted on the 25th there is no bars to show and nothing in the bank …. The site says a refund date will be given when available just curious of what’s up …. as of February 15th it still says the same thing ……. single no EIC is how I found

  35. Mine says according to path act the irs cannot issue refunds before 15tth..check back after 15th for personalized refund status..
    Tax topic 152

    Filed 1-18 accepted 1-19

    Nothing yet?

    1. We are in the same shoes. So far it seems like our returns would be in in the “first” batch out so we should be getting an update on Thursday in WMR-it’s possible we could be seeing returns on Friday.

  36. I cant access a transcript because its been less than 3 weeks and i dont have a CC…my refund did get accepted the same day i filed which was January 28th but my status on WMR hasnt moved since. Still says accepted thats it…hoping it comes soon! I am a single person, no kids and no EITC. Deff frustrated with how things are moving this year ugh! Jazzy I see you have helped a lot of people and I keep checking in hoping it helps me lol

    1. Ryan (Not The Author)

Teresa, quite a few others I have spoken with have said the same thing — their refund status has remained the same on the WMR page for weeks. This is just a guess but I would imagine the IRS is backlogged this year, because of The PATH Act, and the WMR tool is inconsistent (what I really mean to say is, not accurate) as a result. Again, just a guess as I have had similar experiences in years past.

I hope you see your refund date on the 15th of February. Cheers!

    2. Teresa—– you can bet by this Saturday no later it will move about 4:30am to 6:00am,,,that’s a big update morning,, ever Saturday,,,,but you very well could see a update tonight Early morning,,,,,

      1. I hope so! I called this morning and it got me nowhere. Spoke with a person and she basically said to wait the 21 days and call next Tuesday. Okkk?

    3. Morning Teresa, try via phone if they don’t work. Call these numbers and tell them you need your transcript for school or a bank loan and they will personally send it via mail. 18008291040, 1 for English then 2241 or (800) 829-0582 ext. 652. You should have been able to access your transcript within 1-2 weeks after acceptance unless something is holding up your return…ask them that as well when you get them on the phone…is there a problem. good luck.

  37. So I last checked my status on the WMR tool a couple days a go and i could see the progress, but now when i try it acts like i haven’t done my taxes and it can’t find any record of it? Please help

    1. Sean W, it is that time….make the call. 18008291040, 1 for English then 2241 or (800) 829-0582 ext. 652 to force them to look at your return if it has not been the 21 days, tell them you got a code other than 152 and WMR told you call….say you can’t recall the code it gave you….then they will look into it…and give you an answer…good luck

  38. you rock jazzy! thank you for all your assistance

    1. Thank you Dora, you are very welcome :-)

  39. filed my taxes on Feb 4th and it still says pending on my hrblock site and doesn’t give me any info on the federal site?

    1. Hbush, google this – HR Block sign on to check status of refund; then click on Check My Tax Refund and E-file Status. Also try to order your transcipt online, mail or phone…you can get some insight from that as well…good luck

  40. Jazzy – you are awesome answering all these peoples questions!!! Now if you could make me 40 pounds lighter and make my teenagers behave, that would just be the cherry on top!!!! But seriously, Thank You!!!

    1. Frickin love it and you are Beautiful just being here . Jazzy is awesome but you are a better mom an I’m sure he’d agree !!!!

    2. Morning Karen and Bob…..ahhhhhhhhh thank you both and everyone for the love…love you guys :-). Let me work on how I can make you lose 40 pounds….not sure if I can do anything about teenagers behaving you are on your own with that one…lmbo. Too funny….lol. Now, throw out those cookies, chips, cakes…lol. Or come visit me and we can be walking BFF…looking for a walking partner…everyone I know is just lazy…smh.

  41. Hello i have been reading these comments all day. Im hoping im reading this right. I was able to order my transcripts today after reading the messages here. My wmr has no bars no refund amount but just has the check back after feb 15th for deposit date with code 152. I filed the feb 2nd and was accepted same day.

    1. Marissa, you are reading it correctly. You are done and should be getting a DDD in the next few days like the majority of us. So keep an keen eye on that bank account ok…

  42. Thank u sweetheart and that is all that matters is that its coming have a happy Valentine’s ev1

  43. Goodnight ALL…..sleep well and hope we all wake up in the morning to a pending deposit…:-).

    1. To be honest I don’t wanna get my hopes up ill wait for the 15 lol

  44. My bars r gone they have been for awhile and i will let u know and i pray their not blank either

  45. I had the tax code 152 now the only thing that is there is the amount married filing joint and my last 4 of my social

    1. Good luck Volinda, hope you get some good news and update soon. Call if you think you should to see why the delay. I have called multiple times and got in….got a lot of different answers tho…smh. But now that DDD or near…that is all that matters, no matter what they say…lol.

    2. Volinda,,did you just recently get Path, after about 3 days with Path , your amount will no longer show, it will just only show s.s, filing status, and tax year ending Dec 31,2016, that’s when you will know that you’re completely processed

      1. Dang Toya , you learnd a lot in couple weeks . Just funnin with ya – good advice .HAPPY V-day

  46. Here’s a new one …just called IRS check my account it ask me to enter 6 digit code from letter …haven’t got a letter ….yet ….hmmmm!

    1. Did you request your transcript via mail? If so, they sent you the 6 digit code to enter via phone or online. With that code you can view on line…you have to wait until you get it. I used by vehicle account number and cell phone to get in…phone has to be in your name from one of the major carriers….so they can verify it is in your name…not all cell phone carriers sign up with IRS verification.

      1. I couldn’t order mines online, it asked me for car loan account or credit card, I have both, it said system couldn’t recognize, so when I did it over the phone, it stated it recognized number, and i was able to order with just social and mailing address number

        1. The same thing happened to me last year. The system kicked me out when something was not exact but I was able to have it mailed to me.

    2. Actually, I meant did you ask for them to send you a code to get into the online to view the transcript. If so, they are mailing it to you…since you couldn’t get thru the other questions.

      1. I just had my transcripts mailed ….I have no idea why it is asking for a code….unless I just haven’t received the letter yet ….who knows ….just lucky I’m a patient person ….lol

      2. It’s a number just for transcripts he can talk to a rep, within 3-5 minutes, once you get your transcript there is a number that you can talk directly, if you haven’t gotten transcript, you will not have access to that number unless you get it from someone, the number is on transcript

  47. It’s accepted my refund 020517 when is my refund sent cycle to appear on my account direct deposited fileong

  48. My cycle code is 20170502.
Is it possible Id get my DD this week?

    1. FJB do you have a processing date of 2-20-17? If so, you should have an update on the WMR with a DDD like the rest of us between the 16-18….but in your bank 4 days before that date…probably by Friday, if not the 22nd or 24th the latest… good luck!

      1. Yes. It does say 2-20-2017. So hopefully it happens the end of this week.
Also, next to that date under “Amount” it has $0.00. Is that because it is being held? That whole line with that info is code 150 with all the credit amounts underneath.

        1. FJB, -0- is good. Means they owe you, you owe them nada. All your refund totals should have a negative amount..which means credit to you. They are holding the return without any Freeze codes this year…so check a few times tomorrow and Wed morning…until you see a code 846..then mean fund released. Check your bank as well…these are the (2) places you will see the 1st sign of a deposit. WMR…may not update to after the fact…normal codes for most are 150, 806, 766, 768..missing 846.

        2. I have all those codes except 846, obviously.
Thanks for the info Jazzy. Its appreciated.

        3. You are very welcome…have a goodnight

    2. Update latest info

  49. I filed and was accepted on February 2nd. My status bar hasn’t moved since. I never wait this long for our refund. We did have an educational credit this year cause of our daughter attending college. Could that be it? All I have is the topic 162 message. Help

    1. Marlene, they are checking all credits…they just maybe waiting on a verification from the school that is not on file as of yet. Can you view your transcripts yet? What is the message saying on WMR…..do it say “still processing and a date will be available…” If your bars are gone and you got the PATH message with refund amount gone…then you should be good. No letters yet, then I wouldn’t worry…just a little delay…hope your don’t get caught up in the massive release…and push back…

      1. We have received your tax return and it is being processed. If you filed a complete and accurate tax return, your refund should be issued within 21 days of the received date. Processing may take longer under certain circumstances. Please check here or visit the Refunds page on IRS.gov, to check on your refund status.

Please read the following information related to your tax situation:
Tax Topic 152, Refund Information. The bar is on received how do I know about my transcripts thanks

        1. Marlene, yes you are under review and may be getting a letter soon. It usually takes them 2 weeks to send out the letters. But you can call them and tell them you got a code on the WMR to call, if they ask what is the code you got, say I don’t recall not at a computer to look it up. That will force them to call up your return and check it out. You may get delayed a little longer due to them pushing out all those EIC/ACTC pending refunds during the next 2 weeks.ugh. Call to ease your mind…ok.

        2. Marlene,

Code 152 does not mean you are under reveiw for an audit. The IRS is backed up this year with all of the due diligence that has been implemented to avoid tax fraud therefore their review process is being carried out to the 21 days. I had this message from jan 26 to feb 11th. As long as wmr isn’t saying there’s no info or yor message change give it a few more days. I had a w2, single filing status and a school credit..check back tomorrow after 3am for an update

        3. Being Patient until the week of 15th

Marlene, you have a “Tax Topic 152”. That is the code meaning your getting your refund very soon.

Other codes are indicators of a review.

        4. Being Patient, usually when you get that message, they just pulled the return to review it or waiting on something…it maybe nothing ….like an audit. Just something that can be corrected with a call. They usually have a week to review then resequence it back in line…may be nothing they just looked at it a little closer to determine everything was ok…nothing serious. Lot of ppl got letters and once they fax or call they were updated within 2 days…or it can fix itself…

What say you?
